My introduction to nettles was when I moved to Idaho. I was bird hunting with a friend when I waded into a large stand of plants. I was wearing a T-shirt. My friend looked at me in horror, I couldn’t understand what was wrong. He explained to me I was standing in stinging nettles. For some reason they didn’t effect me. I saw nettle root supplements and investigated, now they use the whole plant. I take capsules twice a day.
Excellent! I have been feeling challenged health wise recently, and remembered eating NETTLES 50 years ago while living in the forest, and foraging mushrooms and other wild foods. I now live in the desert, so haven’t really thought about harvesting nettles, But found dry nettle leaves at local Food Coop and began making nettle tea. It has made a huge difference, My love affair with nettles has been renewed. Looking forward to your E-book. Thanks so much.

Excellent video, Rosalee, danke. I am an old woman from Germany living in ME. and my mother, who was an herbalist, died a healthy 100 years old. She never used aspirin, or any painkillers. We ate nettles like spinach with eggs. I have a very difficult time here in US finding nettles. I found some a few years ago on a private property and dug them up. They are growing now in my garden, but not nearly enough for my needs. To me they are more precious than the most beautiful rose especially since I have bad arthritis in my knees. I do rub them with the nettles - but what will I do in the winter? Btw. the seeds are extremely healthy as well - who needs expensive chia seeds?

I knew of a man who had really horrible arthritis and would use a certain scorpion type to sting him every few months in order to control his arthritis. He said he'd never felt better since he began putting up with arthritis by using the scorpions to help him. He just happened to have been stung by one while in his bare feet and said a couple days later his arthritis was nearly completely gone. So he tested the theory that it may've helped by collecting one and allowing it to sting him. It worked like a charm for a few months.

I am new to herbalism and am somewhat reluctant to grow stinging nettle (for obvious reasons), but, after listening to this video, I may consider growing this at some time. Or at least finding some somewhere. My mom has continual pain in her back/neck and we have tried many things to help with this. The doctors just say there isn't anything they can do to help with pain. I am trying several things and would be open to looking into this. Thanks for making this video. And I have one of the books already and made one of the recipes using thyme and cherries to help with sleep. Excellent book. Thanks for making this video.
I stumbled upon this, of course I wanted to view this video. I take nettle daily in freeze dry firm via capsules. I learned about stinging nettle just this year. I harvest it for future use. Great info.
I had my first attempt at picking, drying and making nettle soup. It was delicious. I have heard though that nettles shouldn't be used once they come into flower because they can be damaging to the kidneys (maybe more calcium is present).
The boreal herbal wild food and medicine plants of the north by Beverly Grey also mentions that once the nettle enters flowering and seed- setting stages, the old leaves develop gritty particles called "cystoliths" that can irritate the urinary tract if eaten or ingested as a tea.
Yes! Thank you so much for this information. I think we have nettle growing in our yard, but I am not totally sure. Seems like what we have has a lot more scary looking needles....I better get your book and see an illustration . One thing I have to say, I appreciate your voice and I don't think I heard even one "Ummm" or other word whisker!! Amazing! So refreshing. I subscribed and am off to watch the rest of your videos.
Great video. We take nettle capsules for allergies, great for my kids & my skin is softer when I take it. My husband has gradually weaned himself off of pharmaceutical antihistamines taking nettle capsules high doses instead.
I just drank 2 cups of nettle tea(2tsp) and have severe diarrhea. And this is my very first time drinking it. Of course I’m not going to stop drinking nettle tea but I will drink less and slowly increase. Thank you for your video.
Thank you for this very informative video! You mentioned adding marshmallow or oatstraw for those with dry (and cool in my case) constitutions, what proportion of marshmallow root and oatstraw (the more demulcents the better?) to nettles might I start off testing with as I suffer from bladder inflammation and UTIs, ? 2:1 ? What about tilleul/linden ? I am a bit concerned with it's diuretic effects as well. Thanks ! (Love your book Wild Remedies. I made the chickweed vinegar)
I love adding linden to stinging nettle as well. One of my favorite blends is equal parts nettle, oatstraw and linden. As far as how much to add, that does depend a bit on you and what works best for you specifically. Try different amounts and see how it goes. I generally just add a pinch of marshmallow root.
This is a WONDERFULLY made video! I absolutely adore nettle for seasonal allergies and was curious about what else it could do.. there were many videos but this one stood out :) thank you for making this informative and delightful video!
I have been gathering and drying stinging nettles for years. They grow in only odd patches here and there where I live (Coquitlam BC Canada) so I never have enough to make infusions. I make chai tea every morning using whole spices broken up in a mortar and pestle, and I always add stinging nettle. An herbalist friend from Russia once told me to ferment stinging nettles so I always do that before drying.
I was out foraging nettle the other day and my knee hurt so I tried it. It only stung for a few minutes then the pain almost completely went away for a few hours. Needless to say I have stung myself a few times now. It's like eating spicy food, it burns but feels good🥴
I blend nettle leaves, aloe vera and mint and/or oregano. I then strain the mixture and mix will coconut oil and various organics like thyme oil, camphor and tea tree oil. It makes a great rub for arthritis and rheumatism that doesn't prevent cartilage regeneration.
I make it into a iced tea!! I pick nettle leafs, raspberry leafs, dandelion leafs, CERTAIN pine needles, chamomile, and organic honey. Me and the kids are IN LOVE with the tea. 🥰
@@tandrahill302 make sure you don't boil it for very long at all! You'd break a part all the goodies the plants have! I bring it to boil, then let it steep till it's cooled off quiet a bit.
I just got stung by one my mom said it helps so I watch this and it helped a lot tysm!
I love Nettle for seasonal allergies and itchiness! Also, love growing it and cooking with it. :)
I love this herb. It is a part of my "EverLife" tea formula.
And, my plants love the left over tea leaves.
Namaste
Hi Ariel OG! What's in your "EverLife" tea blend?
So glad i found your channel today!! I'm just getting into medicinal herbs this year by growing and foraging.
Welcome!
You are a very good teacher.Thank you very much darling.
Great information! We start our spring season with TNT. Each morning we have Toast, Nettle, and Tea. A very good combination.
I am in love with Nettles! Thank you so much for making these informative and inspiring videos. Your energy and enthusiasm is contageous!!
Great video. We take nettle capsules for allergies, great for my kids & my skin is softer when I take it. My husband has gradually weaned himself off of pharmaceutical antihistamines taking nettle capsules high doses instead.
Thanks for your comment! It’s just what I was looking for.
I just drank 2 cups of nettle tea(2tsp) and have severe diarrhea. And this is my very first time drinking it. Of course I’m not going to stop drinking nettle tea but I will drink less and slowly increase. Thank you for your video.
No fun! Yes, drinking less to start and slowly increasing is a good idea when herbs are new to you. I hope next time goes better for you!
@@HerbsWithRosalee thank you for responding. 😊.
@@HerbsWithRosalee What does the three herb combo do or help with?
This is a WONDERFULLY made video! I absolutely adore nettle for seasonal allergies and was curious about what else it could do.. there were many videos but this one stood out :) thank you for making this informative and delightful video!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Please Änne, how does one ferment nettles? I was just about to go collect some and try to dry them. Thanks In Advance. E
Please do tell how you ferment it
I was looking for information on what to do with the stinging nettle I'm growing. This is incredibly helpful! Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Wish I had some in my garden.
@@pash9956 I grew mine from seeds quite easily, in a container.
I use it in tea daily, also just made a tincture, have made Spatzels as well as just cook it with olive oil and dandelion greens as a side dish.
Thank you for sharing this. It is an answer to my prayers.
i have Wild Remedies in my bathroom and regularly read in it.
I was out foraging nettle the other day and my knee hurt so I tried it. It only stung for a few minutes then the pain almost completely went away for a few hours. Needless to say I have stung myself a few times now. It's like eating spicy food, it burns but feels good🥴
Does the arthrites knee pain go away for how long after you sting with the neetle sting plant please?
I blend nettle leaves, aloe vera and mint and/or oregano. I then strain the mixture and mix will coconut oil and various organics like thyme oil, camphor and tea tree oil. It makes a great rub for arthritis and rheumatism that doesn't prevent cartilage regeneration.
Wow Ron. That sounds amazing! I might just try that but I will put my own spin to it. Thanks for posting. Our Creator is wonderful!
I love nettle, I use like tea, like juice, put in flour makes chupati , makes, spinach mix nettle, I use different methods from long long time.
Thanks sweetie! You help me convince my friend, who has made it her mission to destroy all nettles. Yay! Now she asks me before she mows! 10:04
I make it into a iced tea!! I pick nettle leafs, raspberry leafs, dandelion leafs, CERTAIN pine needles, chamomile, and organic honey. Me and the kids are IN LOVE with the tea. 🥰
That sounds nice and healthy 😊
@@billyhopkins5145 also very refreshing, and delicious. :)
Sounds like a great tonic.👍
I'm going to try it by making iced tea. Thanks for letting us know your method.
@@tandrahill302 make sure you don't boil it for very long at all! You'd break a part all the goodies the plants have! I bring it to boil, then let it steep till it's cooled off quiet a bit. By then it's pretty dark. Then I filter out the pulp, and what ever is left in my tea pitcher, I fill it up the rest of the way with water. :) I'm glad to have helped. It's amazing stuff for you, and is the best iced tea I've ever had.
Thank you so much for this interesting video. God bless you 🙏
Just stumbled across your channel and love the content. :)
P.S... your name is so cool and fits you well, being into horticulture. De La Forêt... From the forest. :)
it has high magnesium and magnesium lowers sodium potassium its high in potassium but low in sodium so i add oat straw to my infusions to add more sodium and I drink himalayan salt to not tank my adrenals. many with adrenal issues have to go extra slow with nettles.
I just bought stinging nettle capsules for my rather severe arthritis. I love your video, subscribed & will share. And am going to buy your herb book- you present your knowledge is a very pleasant way- thanks!💕
Hi where did u buy capsule for r a I have it very bad I sick of injections and pain killers make my stomach very painful
Swanson vitamins had it too, many options actually. I also use Country Comfort aloe vera & comfrey salve to rub on aching joints- it takes the edge off enough to bother with (for me). Often doing this lets me go back to sleep if my hands or knees (or shoulders) wake me up. Good luck to you and God Bless🙏🏼
I lightly sting myself on the back of my hands, once a week, which stops my hay fever & rhinitis all through summer..I used to suffer badly before using nettles, I’ll make tea & soup from them soon..
THANK YOU HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE HELPFUL.
Thanks for your brilliant expertise and knowledge, 👍👍❤️
Is it good for liver psoriasis?please reply 🙏 thanks for your knowledge.
Stinging nettle is awesome. I fry it with coconut oil, garlic and other greens.
My cousin got eczema and it's very frustating for him. The rash even start to appear on his face. It's just drop his confidence. The medicine from the doctors didn't help. Finally, he start to eat organic food, drink stinging nettle tea and consume moringa powder. Less than a year the eczema and even the allergic to processed food is gone. Health is very presious.
Edit: I forgot to mention the bitter leave.
What’s bitter leaf? Is it the same as Nigerian bitter leaf.
@@abimbolatevi8533 I think it's different. Some people called it king of bitter . The scientific name is Andrographis paniculata.
Its great to hear you're cousin is feeling better🙏😊
@@honeybee2356 thank you 😊🙏
@@elpanderohabanero2915 waow nice. How to turn it into cream? Yes, after drinking the tea, usually we also rub the skin with leftover leaves from the tea.
Thank you for the most informative video
Blessings to you!
Glad it was helpful!
Wonderful source of info. All need to know about this amazing plant, stinging nettle. I have been working on my stinging nettle liquid fertilizer for my plant these days. It is one of the best natural fertilizers and pesticides for the plants. Thanks a lot for the free gifts as well.
How long does it last after picked? 💛
I have a strange hypothesis to ask, I was out in a rare Sunwave here in Belfast Northern Ireland on a sunlounger and without shifting, the chair tipped and I realised I was Rolling into the rewilding nettles and it was a rough rough Night. Yet here is my strange findings, I have reduced fatigue, and improved stamina and endurance. Now I am not about to repeat the process, yet I seem to have received a transformative dose of stinging nettle's benefits. I will ask a friend or UA-cam for help to turn this large portion of nettles into juices. x!
Did you try it again? " I gots to know"
I make a tincture with apple cider vinegar and use during seasonal allergy season! Really helps.
How exactly do I make this?
Please let us know how you make your tinctures with the apple cider vinegar I am very interested.
Really interesting. Could you please share the preperation process and the direction of use ??
i just got my first nettle plants for my garden- trying them in a pot until i can prepare a ground area...
I made a video about 3 years ago where I boiled my nettles to make a tea and more green veg. I actually miss the taste and always feel good after consuming it. I use gloves to harvest, not brave enough to touch it as I always seem to get sting by it somehow.
In England you find the dock plant living next to the stinging nettles. You rub a dock leave on the affected area and the stinging subsides. Does dock plant live next to stinging nettle in North AMerica?
It does! A great remedy! Lots of juicy green leaves work like this. Thanks for sharing that!
I grow it and eat the plant plus drink water I'm not sure if it's being the one that could cause my dropping in salt in my body but I love it thanks for your lesson Gina
I really need my sodium level to drop. Do you think this would help?
I give the dried tea to my dogs and also drink it myself.
I pick nettle every single morning and eat it daily. Never miss a day.
I love your videos.
Rosalee, I live in the northwest part of the country......Oregon and Washington . Is east coast better than west coast for herb varieties? 🙃
Hi Rosalee just came across your video from a year ago, i have been using nettles for a couple of years now mainly in tea and soup. But having watched your video i will be using it much more, by the way i had no idea just how powerful it is for so many health issues we may face. Thank you so much for this information. ❤
You are so welcome! Happy you found this podcast!

@@HerbsWithRosalee Constructive criticism: lose the background noise.
The subject & your narration of it is great! The addition of distracting, monotonous & annoying music ruined the vid for me.
@@HerbsWithRosalee everytime I see a video on stinging nettles I am MORE confused as to what IS a stinging nettle.... *because* the two things that we have that ""some videos"" show as nettle whilemothwrs look NOTHING like them at all... I wish there was a video showing specifically the differences between types...
@@savage22bolt32 Thanks for the feedback. In my earlier videos I was trying different things out as I found my UA-cam footing. Since then I've stopped doing music in the background.
@@1truthseeking8 There's many herbs that go by the name of nettle but only one Urtica dioica. What I show is definite Urtica dioica.
Thank you for all your information, 💚💜👏👏
You are so welcome!
14:36 #2 wait it out.. I'm so glad you mention this. Getting people to understand the body wants to adjust, cleanse, adapt is challenging, and often, they'll give up too soon for a little temporary discomfort. Blessings 🙌✨️
In my backyard I have what looks like stinging nettle, the leaves are slightly more slender and the stalk and leaves have fewer of the the stinging needles though they still do sting very much. Would this kind of stinging nettle still have the beneficial properties as you described?
I have about an acre's worth of Stinging Nettles in my woods.
I just steam young leaves and stems and apply some fat-free Italian dressing.
They taste better than spinach to me.
Nettles are the highest protein leafy vegetables in the Western Hemisphere.
You are blessed to have that much nettle. Like I said in the comment I made earlier, I found it by pure accident and would love for it to spread into a bigger patch than what I have.
Do you have any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the informations Nettles grow wild in my garden I'll try to make use of this wonderful plants for my arthritis
NO THEY ARE NOT. MORINGA" IS! SO STOP😣😤✋🔴SPREADING FAKE NEWS
I do use the dry leaves.
I love mixing my teas. Favourite is Nettle, Dandelion leaf with a little fine liquorice root as a sweetener.
..if I can, all herbal teas if cooked, should be cooked in a glass pot (vision glass wear) NEVER metal pots because the herb will react to the metal (oxidation(?) ). Also if you drink nettle tea you should stop drinking coffee
Great video! We love eating nettle with our meals! and making tea! It tastes so amazing and the earthiness of the tea yum!
Wow. You have a new subscriber. I will look into get your books. Do you have the stinging nettle book in paper? I prefer to have it on hand. Thank you for this informative video. I just recently got neetle. I had to buy it on line, because I couldnt find it growing wild. Now is in my garden growing beautifully. Since I am dealing with premanopause. I will give stinging nettles a try.
Hi Erika, Yay for nettles! Both of my books have a chapter on nettles. I do love them so much! My recent video on edible weeds also has information about identifying and harvesting nettle. Enjoy your nettles!
I heard it's good for excema. I just bought some
Boiled 3 times , change water every time boil about 3 minutes , butter salt pepper
Awesome 👍 thanks so much❤️
You are so welcome
I make a gallon of nettle tea,i drink a cup every day.
Thank u, great information.
🙏👏👍☘️
I just need to learn all how to use it once it's grown I have all these issues
If you have a sensitive digestive system and a very good one at the same time, drink a simple tea daily for a while before you do a strong infusion, it gets your body used to the medicinal plant :) drink lots of water too lol
What is the reason for blanching nettles before cooking them into food? 🙄 i love nettles 😊 i always have fresh nettle leaf tincture and nettle acv in my pantry 😎
It's to make sure they don't sting. If you pulverize them well that can also work. (For example nettle pesto.)
What are the measurements for your nettle ACV?
Thank you Rosalee for sharing your knowledge. I take nettle tea daily and recently added rhodiola to help me repair my body after recent surgery.
It was a lot,but you were organized, direct, and to the point. Glad I watched .
I feel so happy to be with you....
I always wondered why my Kiwi neighbour used it by cooking it all the time and said it was best for you
When I was at school (many years ago) we were given boiled nettles for lunch.
