I fished San Pedro for bonefish on a DIY trip one year. I tied up a box of 100+ bonefish flies and ended up only using/going through 3 the whole week I was there. #4 orange rubber legged gotcha with a heavy dumb-bell eye. The wind was atrocious but it helped covering up my splat casts and the fly smacking the water. It was a good time. I'd highly recommend Belize
Mark, great video! I'm fishing in the Northeast with the weather in the teens so it's great to see you and Tom fishing for bonefish in a beautiful area. Tom and you are my favorite fly fishers to watch. Please keep them videos rolling!!
I love any type of sight fishing but fishing the flats is the most difficult style of fly fishing I’ve ever done. The wind is usually blowing like crazy and the fish are super spooky. You need to land the fly like a mosquito with sore feet and the action you put on the fly needs to be perfect or they will totally ignore the fly. Bringing one out of five to the net is a good ratio as for some reason their movements are perfect for getting unpinned. Very frustrating fish to target but really rewarding when you finally catch one! Thanks for the cool video guys you did really well.
This looks a fabulous place for classic flats fishing.Watching the video is a great antidote to our winter lockdown. Will put it on the radar for 2022,or 23!Best wishes to all and lovely fishing Simon ,Manchester UK🐝
Caught my first bonefish while on my honeymoon in Belize (Ambergris Caye). I have been absolutely addicted to them. It's pretty tough on the psyche when you only get to fish for them every 2 years at best!
You’ve said before never adjust your drag while playing a fish. You’re doing it all the time. I also wonder if that’s your rod and reel you keep dropping in the salt water?
Love the show and you guys. I am headed to tarponcaye lodge this mid April when was this shot? I didn’t see other staying at the lodge was this off season? Thanks guys keep it up
@@newflyfisher Hardly ever seen on your show. Jim McLennan's 'Iron Blue Fly Fishing' used to go into remote areas not connected to any lodge. Flip Pallet would do the same in his Walker Cay Chronicles. Same for any of the UK series A Passion for Angling. Sorry, but your crew are basically just tourists.
fished playo de carman last year at christmas .I found the bone fishing to be way overrated although i did get a nice permit and assorted other fish i was disappointed..hooked a tarpon but he took me over a coral atoll and broke me off. a fresh run coho, king, or steel head will put any of these fish to shame in the fight department and it won,t cost near the money as going down south

Awesome video. A dream come true for you guys
Thanks so much!
Awesome fishing mates! But, have you guys thought of all the corals your stepping? Please let the watchers know about that.
That's a good idea!
08:16 that's tremendous trust in your gear right there lol

Thanks Shan. Appreciate the kind words. We were there the first week of May. Had TONNES of shots at permit, tarpon and bones.
Mark
Do you guys ever do anything without a lodge and guides?
Yes, all the time...but not necessarily on camera!

Also, don’t reel your leader not into the rod while landing a permit.
Dude. Why you fight the fish with right hand and pass the rod over to left hand to reel with right hand?
