Good video. More people need to watch this. I've run 5-6K converters on the street for 20 years. So many people think you will cook your transmission. They don't understand that at part throttle cruise they don't slip that much.
@@mexicoracing691 No. For normal driving it doesn't generate much heat. I have a small single loop cooler on my transmission in addition to the little cooler in the radiator. My external cooler is one loop measuring 24", that's it. I don't run a huge RV style trans cooler. Not needed.
PTC is the best of the best. Got a buddy who runs they're converters and Powerglides behind a 4000hp car and a 2000hp car and they handle it extremely well.
What tach and oil pressure guage is that? I run a 6200 fti 8" converter 4l80 transmission behind my 427. Just went to 4.56 gears and still drives great
Yes factory temps sensor in the pan. I run John Deere Hy-Gard low viscosity in it with some Type F for color. It averages 180* depending on what I'm doing.
Typically let’s you rev higher rpm’s before it locks up if I’m not mistaken or that’s just the jist of how it works. Therefore creating a mean hole shot and/or keeping the rpm’s up between shifts.
Put 2 box fans together and only plug one in. Now turn one on (engine) and the air from one turns the dead fan (transmission). A stall works the same way but uses fluid instead of air. The tighter the tolerance between the fans, the higher the engine has to spin to turn the transmission and tires. It acts as a clutch for an automatic transmission to disconnect the engines power from the drivetrain when not needed.
Okay I have a cammed 6.2 silverado, and I for the most part understand how converters work, but what would you really need a 6k converter for? How big of a cam and what compression and what motor are you running?
Drag racing. You want your converter to flash stall 100-200rpm higher than where you make your peak torque to put you immediately into the power band. My 7.1 liter in my s10 makes peak torque right at 5,000rpm and I have a 5,200 stall converter in it.
Under full throttle thats all you need. Actually the converter was still a touch tight. Under part throttle I could drive it to work without breaking 2500rpm.

Im really thinking of this i have an rb26 so 4k+ is needed atleast
Any recommendations you’ve seen true it needs a lot of cooling

How's that transmission fluid temp?
I run a B&M 70274 cooler and I'm just below 180* on the interstate and just above in traffic in town.
That's pretty good!!!!
How is it for stop and go on hills? Will it go straight to lock? Or ride the converter up it, but at a higher rpm?
Like any other stall converter. The more you load it the higher it will stall. I'll be driving it on a 1500 mile trip next month.
with the th400 swap how did you get the trans temp to read on factory trans gauge?
I put the factory sensor in the pan.
Do you have a trans temp gauge? Wondering what it gets to...what fluid are you running?
Yes factory temps sensor in the pan. I run John Deere Hy-Gard low viscosity in it with some Type F for color. It averages 180* depending on what I'm doing.
Can you get a clip of the dash when going down the strip?
Probably not
...and spooled up quick!!!
What does your transmission temp run at?
Depends on what I'm doing. Under 180 on the interstate. Under 200 in town.

No tire pressure monitors at that time.
