Nope. If I'm playing anywhere besides a larger-stage club or theater, I want the most minimalist set possible, 8 inch drums all around and just a half-dozen great sounding kits. Honestly, the kit looks really good. If there was one thing I would change it would be the hi-hat sounds within the module. They seem a little bit weak and crunchy put the rest of the kit sounds and looks the part. It is also at a fairly reasonable price, especially for Roland.
Every year it does not matter what other companies software and electronic alike come out with Roland will still be victorious. Roland just has the best track record. They just know exactly where to place themselves on the electronic drum market. Like or hate them Roland always wins!
Awesome. In 2020, Roland comes up with an idea drum-tec already offered more than 10 years ago. And the module sounds are still the same: an overprocessed kick drum and snare next to toms that still sound like plastic cans.
I agree Mike. Roland is late in the game with real sizes, overpriced, and sounds terrible still. I love the Pearl Mimic Pro but I wish companies would offer lower priced modules that have sounds like Steven Slate or Superior Drummer in them and have real sized kits that don’t require a 5-7 year loan. Why can’t they have a 4pc jazz kit for example with a basic module with select Superior drummers sound pack for around $1000 and have expansion packs going up from there? The ability to add larger sizes and upgrade to a bigger module with more inputs. That’s what is missing.
Mike Luke the other thing I don’t like with Roland digital snare is no snare throw off. It’s USB, they can and should have built it in for players to use in real time.
Yes !! This is what i hoped from Roland : an electronic drumkit sized like an acoustic ! The choise between the ATV adrums and this Roland will be difficult. I think the technology with 3 cones triggering in the shells are practically the same...
@@stefanosgeorgiou3489 Have you tried e/Merge? Those pads look interesting, though today everyone boasts that their pads have an authentic feel. Gewa is an interesting concept, the module has great potential, there are many great options (and few buttons more! 😁) that Mimic doesn't have, but on the other hand, Mimic sounds are VST. This is also the biggest drawback of the new Roland kits - they are not compatible with the Mimic, but on the other hand, this VAD series is a much better choice than the TD-50.
@@markomarkovic5729 I tried the eMerge in a music store. Had a very weird feeling playing it like something was off, bad sounds, not enough kits...I wasn't impressed given its price. Dead on arrival IMO.
I just purchased a VAD506 this week. I was going originally with the new VAD706 but at the steep price of $8,000 the more I looked at the 506 it just made more sense for me. I got it new in the box for $4200 and I am planning on using superior drummer for the sounds anyway. The only thing I may upgrade once it’s available is the new digital hi-hats which are about $800. I think the 506 is overall a way better value than the 706.
The school where I teach recently bought The TD17Kv and it was good but then i bought the Drumtec sample pack! It's really changed the kit. It feels more responsive and acoustic sounding. The Gretsch, Yamaha and so or kits are my favorite ;) a great kit for the price. I was considering buying one myself but now this is an option, I may have to start saving up. Great drumming as always. Lg aus NRW
My wife made me sell my first kit because it was too loud. I was trying to teach myself drums so I bought an imperial star 6 piece tama. It was just too loud for me to practice. I tried mutes and it just was difficult. I was going to buy an electronic set unfortunately she developed cancer and so we are down to one income so this dream will be on hold for a while. This is a killer set. I love it
@@MarkuzP66 Mark every single Roland, Alesis, Pearl or any module manufacture has "crap machine gun sound." Hell on the 27 I have seen comments the toms sound like machine guns. Because you can't crap on the digital snare. Or horrid sound in general from everything. I hear this every time. I bought a TD-17 to run with SD3. Worked great. Did it respond like just the sounds from the module? No... Did SD3 sound better? Yes it did. Then companies like V-Expressions and Drum-Tec sat down and did some tuning. Honestly the TD-27 is going to be monster module that the pro's will tune better than Roland did. They will add samples and it will sound great. It will respond great. We hear this same thing every time. Sounds terrible... Look at the Alesis pro module... Now deemed as the best sounding module on the market. But when it came out it's sound was hacked on time and time again. A few patches later they hero's. I promise your the audience has no clue what you are even playing, with some tweaking it will be right there... Don't believe me? Heard of the late great Neil Peart? He made the news this week. He was huge Roland fan and arguably the best drummer on earth... The sounds will be fine. Please don't take this as an attack. I get tired of acoustic purists telling many of us use your Pearl Masters sounds better. Not all of us can do that. E-Drums are progressing and the future. Just like that time Dillon went "Electric".
Joshua Ferry Sorry, I don‘t agree! I had nearly every drum module from Roland TD12,TD30,TD50 and a 2Box and now I have a mimic Pro and totally satisfied with the sound. Roland has very good hardware and nice electronic sounds but when it comes to acoustic samples it is terrible! The sample just too bad in resolution and no real multilayering with round robin! The result is machinegunning and harsh sounding Snares and Toms. SD3 (I have it too) is total different approach! You can compare this with the mimicPro. Both are running soundlibraries. Roland is not really innovative! The new VAD pads are ATV Copies and the soundmodules are stuck in the 90th. 2Box does better. Alesis does better and thats what I meant!
3 point trigger on the floor tom? 16 inch ride? Damn, roland i'm impressed. For roland to respond like this to ATV's lineup must mean they're making enough of a dent in the edrum world to impact the giant himself. I've been holding off from buying an adrums set and i'm glad i did.. it's slightly more expensive but has the better snare and ride... hmmm decisions decisions...
Very very good drummer in all disciplines. Very rudimental. Fantastic foot hand work trigger drums augment and amplify the crispness of his playing but geez world class groves, runs centered tempos even not coming back to “ one”. I heard him with a bass player on another video extremely solid player!
The kit itself looks good, I personally would not use the TD-27 module but the TD-50 module for the kit. I would include the TD-30 module, but I don’t think the TD-30’s module has digital inputs.
Tbh... i‘m really diggin the Sounds 🤷🏻♂️ I‘ve been playing Drums since 11 Years now (switched a lot between acoustic and electric) and i can say, that the Audience doesn‘t really care about the synthetic Sounds... i would even say it‘s the opposite... i‘ve got compliments about the TD17 sounds and lot‘s of People said, that the Sounds are better than actual Acoustic Drums 🤷🏻♂️

Nice kit, and yes I agree with people the sound quality sucks, but remember that you have an Eq on the module and you can adjust it, also Roland allows you to EQ every instrument individually, so you can make it sound realistic almost, definitely will be looking at this peace
In the future I would need mor cymbals and another floor to. 14” is fine I make it sound like a 36” orchestral bass drum if I want.love the kit love digital everything
This 506 kit is crazy durable. Jay Weinberg (drummer for slipknot, son of the famous Max Weingberg) uses this kit for practice and covers. He did a cover of a Code Orange track on his channel about 3 months ago using this kit that'll blow your mind! He brutally abuses this kit!

Nice looking kit. But let's not forget the sounds we are hearing are direct from the module. But for gigging with this kit you need a good PA and aways have to EQ to take account of the PA and the venue environment. Once you adjust your kit sound to sound as good as it's gonna get, you have to do it all again when using different kit sounds.
Yes, but that's basically the same problem you have with an acoustic kit in different live venues no? An electronic kit actually has the advantage that is has no acoustic sound to it, that might be problemtaic with the individual room acoustics & interfere with the sound coming out of the PA, so it makes life easier actually in some cases :) kind regards!
Thank you, it will probably respond very well, as the new TD-27 module is great for triggering external sample libraries & Roland modules work very well generally speaking :) Kind regards!
Thank you Chris, yes that would be a super setup! The TD-27 is interesting as module for using midi out, it has positional sensing, is compatible with the Roland digital pads (Ride!) and has quite some more trigger inputs than a TD-17. So onboard sounds apart, this is the best bang-for-the-buck high end trigger/sound module you can get for using external samples, without having to purchase a TD-50 :) Kind regards!
That's insane how far ele tric has come. The heads still need sum work though, it doesn't feel the same, especially kick pads. Now if roland could take a page from aleises and make a line that's big shelled drums that doesn't cost 5k.
Still amazes me to this day, Roland has never gotten the sounds right. They made some nice progress with the TD30 and the cymbal swells and the snare had that round robin non machine gunning algorithm to it, but they just stopped there. They didn’t include that to the toms and the toms have machined gunned since day one, they never addressed that, even to this day with the TD50. Pearl Mimic Pro has gotten the closest to a very good sounding module with the built in VST in a box concept. The best sounding drum module has been the 2Box Drumit 5 with the “modded” SD card mod to convert and play Superior drummer kits on the module itself with no need for a middle man laptop. It was and is still fantastic, but IMO there’s no looking back with the Pearl Mimic pro. I hope they only get stronger and get better because sample and sound wise, Roland is still underachieving.
It frustrates me too. I think it was 2box that used actual wave files in their modules. It was the closest thing to an actual kit. I'm sick of these companies creating these highly expensive kits that still sound like they did in 2008. If it's going to come down to using plug-ins- I'll just buy some triggers and a cheap module.
@@chopzmasta07 I believe its true since I haven't gotten the Roland kit yet, once you MIDI this kit or other V drum, EF Note, ATV kit, etc into your DAW, you should be able to load a VST such as Abbey Road 60s Drummer by Native Instruments and get (as an example) the authentic sounds many of us seek vs. being limited as to what's in this module or any other. It appears the module here is your selection of choices for straight out of the box configuration. At least with the TD-50X you can load your own samples thus saving any snare from any VST such as Native Instruments or Komplete 13 or Reason 11 and upload those samples into the Roland module to create your own kit sound.
Buy the kit with a much cheaper module and hook it up to something like Superior Drummer. Can't believe that we're in this generation of digital drum kits, and it still doesn't sound even remotely convincing.
Looks fantastic! Glad they finally put a set like this out. More competition = lower priced eventually. I can’t imagine spending $6500 Euros on eDrums. My strike pro was 1/4 of the price. I’d keep the strike but get ATV hi hats or vh-13’s and call it a day. I don’t know why after so long Roland still can’t make good tom sounds.

Hi! 1) TD-27 is the new Rolamd middle class module, TD-50 is the high end model. 2) Yes indeed, if you need 8 direct outputs for live, only the TD-50 has those. 3) Yes, all current Roland modules (TD-17, TD-27, TD-50) offer "sub sample" layering, which means you can use additional one shot samples on top of the module´s onboard sounds on every trigger zone. 4) unortunately no, but you can check out the 100% Roland compatible drum-tec diabolo or pro series electronic drums as an alternative over here: www.drum-tec.com/pads For any further questions, please get in touch through service@drum-tec.de! This is my 1st time hearing this kit. After hearing the EFNOTE 5 last week, Roland still has a long way to go. This kit really falls short, especially the toms. After all these years, they still sound machine gunny and synthetic. With today's technology, what a shame.

Which digital hi-hats are these that are selling for $800?
Woah! This is kinda new level!
Why is it so fun looking at things I want but won’t have in a million years?
;-D
The school where I teach recently bought The TD17Kv and it was good but then i bought the Drumtec sample pack! It's really changed the kit. It feels more responsive and acoustic sounding. The Gretsch, Yamaha and so or kits are my favorite ;) a great kit for the price. I was considering buying one myself but now this is an option, I may have to start saving up. Great drumming as always. Lg aus NRW
Dankeschön! :)
I love it
Looks & sound good, but I’m old school I still love the sound & feel real wood & brass
5:31 to 5:58 - My favorite kit
Nice looking Kit (inspired by ATV I think :-) ) but still strange harsh sounds and machinegunning on Toms :(. Roland it's 2020!!!
It's not inspired the founder of ATV was the founder of V-drums. It is a total rip off at a higher price. People are buying this for the logo.
Joshua Ferry definitely not for the sound😂
For the price, get the sunhouse triggers and a laptop.
18 inch ride

Very very good drummer in all disciplines. Very rudimental. Fantastic foot hand work trigger drums augment and amplify the crispness of his playing but geez world class groves, runs centered tempos even not coming back to “ one”. I heard him with a bass player on another video extremely solid player!

Yes, Ralf did great in this one (to be honest, he always does)!

Thanks Ralf!! Great new kit! Great playing as usual...You could play the phone book (if there were anymore) and make it sound good!
Thank you so much Ken! :)
The kit itself looks good, I personally would not use the TD-27 module but the TD-50 module for the kit. I would include the TD-30 module, but I don’t think the TD-30’s module has digital inputs.
Tbh... i‘m really diggin the Sounds 🤷🏻♂️
I‘ve been playing Drums since 11 Years now (switched a lot between acoustic and electric) and i can say, that the Audience doesn‘t really care about the synthetic Sounds... i would even say it‘s the opposite... i‘ve got compliments about the TD17 sounds and lot‘s of People said, that the Sounds are better than actual Acoustic Drums 🤷🏻♂️
The only people that care are mostly other drummers... and drummers are ruthless. haha
Please do a video of the VAD306 set! Would love to see how it can be expanded with upgrades and splitters
Hi, I´d love to! But until now, no VAD kits are available in europe, for the release I only got the 503 / 506 kit for one day. Kind regards!
I would consider using this live. I hope I could turn up the closed hi hat and the ride bell. Some nice kit sounds, some crap.

Nice kit, and yes I agree with people the sound quality sucks, but remember that you have an Eq on the module and you can adjust it, also Roland allows you to EQ every instrument individually, so you can make it sound realistic almost, definitely will be looking at this peace
Jaime Gordillo EQ does not improve realism. You would have to look into Superior Drummer 3.
In the future I would need mor cymbals and another floor to. 14” is fine I make it sound like a 36” orchestral bass drum if I want.love the kit love digital everything
Hey Greg, the single components of the VAD kist will be available in the future too. Kind regards!
Finally roland have my interest after I converted an acoustic kit. The drumming here is top class too. Great demo 👌

I specifically dont want real drum sizes both in width and height, and the current 506 with the real sizes just not for me, but I can add 3 more if any others hit the market. The kit is not winning any fans pre release. I couldn't pass up doubling the number of sounds and a bit more I/O options on the 27.

New look still that hard to take roland synthetic sound
Great playing my dude! Very nice kit but Id rather save money, buy the drumtec Jam or Diablo kits and trigger SD3 with it.
That Punk Rock beat @ 4:23
How do you play it ? Is there a lesson for this beat ?
This is one of the easiest beats to learn lol
This module should be compatible with most of the pads and even VH-13 i think.
Yes it is! :)
great, now that I bought td 17... thanks Roland
It´s never too late for a module upgrade ;-D kind regards!
Excellent
And it still sounds like keyboard drums from 5 years ago. What's the point of having the subtleties of digital pads if your triggering shit sounds?
Buy the kit with a much cheaper module and hook it up to something like Superior Drummer.
Can't believe that we're in this generation of digital drum kits, and it still doesn't sound even remotely convincing.

1) What is the difference between this module and TD50KV module.Which is powerful
2) TD 50KV has the direct output for all pads/cymbals etc and Does TD27 has only 2 direct out? Will it not be a challenge in live shows
3) Can we overlay a sample or patch to have a dual tone. For Example clap & a kick? Can I assign & use this across all the toms & snare? Can I use the patch downloaded from external world?
4) Any different color shells available
