Great video of showing how you find your magical spots! Agree wholeheartedly that even hiking popular trails like Sao Lorencao, one can find magic by starting before everyone wakes up. What surprises me most is that when talking to some natives, they haven't even done these popular hikes. Hiking like a "local" may not be always true. 😊
I'm from Canada, and during the summer me and my buddy went to do this hike for sunrise! Coincidentally, we ran into Joen and Amalie while they were filming this video, and they're so right, there really is nothing like a morning hike! This place is so magical at sunrise (or anytime), and there truly is nobody on the trail around that time. If you have the chance to go, do it! And if you have the chance to meet Joen and Amalie, also do it!
Highly recommend Joen and Amalie’s Madeira guide. It was a huge benefit for me when I spent a month on the island last year. Huge value and really good to get the local recs. Thanks guys!
What a work of art you guys did, congratulations i love your vibe keep going with it appreciated a bunch. Btw want to learn those drone shots looked so nice :).
John & Amalie, guys your vids are awesome! Bravo John for making it up there…. Must be so adrenalinish right on the top….. good luck in everything you do✊
Great job climbing that mountain Joen!! 👏🏻👏🏻. That did not look easy!! Madeira is absolutely beautiful 🤩. My grandmother who was born in 1925 on the “mainland” of Portugal always said that the people from the islands are low class and poor.🤦🏻♀️. She always spoke her mind, sometimes a little too much!!😆. It’s not like that anymore!! If she could see it now she wouldn’t believe it.😊
Not sure how is your Portuguese nowadays, if you can read it well I strongly recommend the book Deus na Escuridão, Valter Hugo Mãe, it's a beautiful book, and the history takes place in Madeira. Cheers nice video as usual.
I was on Madeira 15 years ago. For MY taste it was already too touristy back then (hence for ME!). Imagine what I would think if I went nowadays now that it's increasingly popular apparently.
That drone footage toward the end was off the hook. Great Sigur Rós track btw, took me back to the V series reboot; “the gringo starter pack” lol, behave… 😆
Starts video saying how beautiful locations in Madeira are over populated with tourists. Proceeds to tell the whole world how to find remote beauty spots only locals know! Well done for selling off Madeira little by little with every video, and what for, UA-cam likes and online revenue. 👏👏👏
Hi, I've been following your channel for a while now, when you say you're looking for places where there aren't many tourists, it's with this video that these secret places end up losing that quality, because everyone wants the best image to post on any digital platform. There will come a day when everything is uncovered and full of tourists, not that they are not welcome. But in the right amount. Best regards.
I honestly think most people know about these places if they wanted to, but the vast vast majority don't do it because they aren't really hikers. Then furthermore almost no one get up early on their own. Sure, Pico do Arieiro, but that's because it's become a tour bus destination. Pico Grande will never be as it's a brutal hike. This video is not about convincing everyone they should climb Pico Grande. It's about stimulating the minds of tourists to maybe try things beyond their comfort zone. Cheers
I'm a local Joan!! and you are missing a lot of key points in Madeira !! Ciao Pizza, come on!!! the best pizza in Madeira is the shrimp Pizza at Papa Manuel!
I love you guys, but the way you behaved on trail just got nothing on what you said 🙃 1. Always be aware of your limitations (props for Amalie for giving up); 2. Never leave the group especially when doing the trail for the first time; 3. Please don't start hiking at 18:27. The number of tourists that get lost (and rescued if lucky) in the mountains of Madeira is ridiculously increasing.
You must read between the lines when we do jokes. If it doesn't make sense, we are making a joke. That's the rule. The point of going for sunset at Pico Grande was also to prove that you need to use common sense. I used common sense and turned around :)
@@joenandamalie Some viewers might not be reasonable enough to understand that (neither did I, I must confess). Btw, those drone shots just reminded me of FAKE DJ, definitely should bring him back 😄
to avoid the point of saturation keep the videos in the range between 12 and 13 minutes max. (professional advice) No matter how good the video is... Beyond this point people will start to feel saturated. that's why tiktok is so famous. people can't afford to invest more of their time.
@@joenandamalie SAD TIMES! Haha! Also hope the fire is under control, We love Maderia, visited for the first time last year and it was heaven, we instantly booked a trip back which will be next month. We have hopes they're gonna put the fires out by then not only for our holiday but the people on the island, we're actually heart broken ourselves so cant imagine how devastating it is for you n the people who call it home. Much love to you both
If you're a tourist here, don't risk your life for a stupid selfie, we the tax payers have to spend money to come rescue you through our emergency services.
Nice people, but dont you realize that you are simply ASKING the world to come to this remote place which will soon... no longer be private any longer ....... Be careful what you post on YT
Yes, we just bought a printer 😂
As usual great video. INCREDIBLE drone work
Just Left Portugal in June. Going back to my cousins in mirando do covo in Dec. We r going to Spain for the Christmas markets. Can't wait

Again, amazing video!! Thank you 🤩
You did it! That did not look like and easy climb at the end but very impressive. Big plus is you guide had a Red Sox hat on 😀

Very nice video and amazing views. My wife and I did some PR hikes in November 2023 and we can’t wait to return to Madeira and explore some more.

I’d love to hear more about the indigenous culture and history of Madeira… if you need a video idea 🎉
beautiful videos. Keeps getting better and better. Where did you get your music from?
Thank you for the pizza recommendation!! We're in Funchal for 3 weeks looking at properties and need some pizza!

John & Emily, another beautiful video and I cant afford to buy your house before you ask, 😅
Maybe one day! 😃
Joen and Amalie, who was responsible for all of the art work placed on the various maps in the video? Hire that person! JP Porto
We did all that. Now we have to hire ourselves 🤣
@@joenandamalie 🤣🤣🤣, Lara is amazing!
Thank you
How easy is it to use the local Funchal buses to get to some of the levada walks. Are there decent levadas around or in Funchal.
Not easy. You need to have a car or scooter for the vast majority of hikes and levadas.
Million likes! What are the views 😍😍😍
Hehe! Thanks Helen!
