UTR 9 vs UTR 13 - How many Games can I Get??? (UTR $$$ Tournament)

- This was a UTR $$$ tournament in the summer of 2022. My opponent is a UTR 13 which is the highest I've ever faced in real competition.
He's a very unassuming player. I wasn't blown off the court, but I was thoroughly beaten. He made pretty much 0 unforced errors and made passing shots from all kinds of positions.
I played quite poorly on this day, but it's hard to determine how much of this loss was me playing poorly and him putting pressure on me.
So good to share this match. And again I imagine that on red clay it would have been even harder. It's good that you share this match because often we imagine that a UTR 12/13 has a powerful serve. But it's not necessarily the case... 👍 Also the way 4:55 the best point of the match is your's 👏
Wow, you're right, Francisco is a really unassuming player. It doesn't look like he has any raw power or extreme athleticism but his consistency makes up for it. He does foot fault a lot though.
Francisco is such a consistent solid player… doesn’t take risky shots. Plays high percentage tennis but can put away balls when needed. His pace on the shots is great too
Francisco is just smooth and comfortable almost the whole time. Never seems rushed and always balanced.
The biggest difference's between a 9-11 and a 12-13 is consistency, shot selection, and patience. A lot of times they have similar abilities, it's just choosing their spots better. Once you get up to 14+, all of those people just never miss, hit incredible shots, and have tremendous pace.
Honestly the reason you lost was because he gave you nothing to work with , so you need to bring the game to him , he was happy to hang at the back of the court, and come in on any drop shots, you need to dictate the point from your service, he didn’t make mistakes because he was under no pressure, mens hard court tennis you must use the 1-2 serve and the net. ( parent of Div 1 college player)
When I was about 60 yo and a high 6 UTR, it showed as a 7 then, I played a 12 UTR in a tournament and won a couple games. That day my shoulder was totally loose and with nothing to lose my serve was topping out about 105 to 110 and I was aiming at corners. He was trying to hit aggressive returns so I managed to hold serve a couple times. I had game point in another and hit a hard flat second serve but didn’t guts enough to go for a corner on second serve. He returned it and I lost the point and the game. Back in the day I’d take a few games off guys between 400 and 1000 if they were serve and volleyers or all court players, but a baseliner would bagel me.
Thanks for the video. I’m guessing he didn’t even hit any first serves. Been there where I try my hardest and barely get a game point or two. But there’s things to learn about being relaxed. Or hustling so you can relax. Glad you won at least one of those drop shot points.
UTR 13 with a serve like that?🤔
I think you are overthinking your topspin on your forehand. You definitely over rotate on it. Because of the over-rotation, you are getting less pace on the ball and efficient topspin. Put all your energy into contact point to follow-through closed to open from only 3 or 4 o'clock to 12 or 1 o-clock. Anything more is too much rotation. If you put the same energy into a smaller distance/rotation, you actually get more power. Try it... All of the sudden, you have a standard topspin that you can control.
Lol. Well it went about how it should. Kudos to both players though, they are what they claim to be and both played well.
Absolutely dreaming if either of those players are better than a 6-7 UTR
absolutely no chance you know what you're talking about.
I have to agree with you Salvatore
Definitely doesn’t appear to be a 13. At least visually.
I think I recognize this player, I believe he played #1 at Utah. He's a very skilled player from the videos I've seen, he plays with a lot of junk and sometimes gamesmanship
Yup. I didn't experience any gamesmanship - not like he needed any v.s. me.
hmm i didnt see any junk at all. just very good skills and control
My mistake, I rewatched the video I was referring to (search Brian Shi vs Utah), and junk probably the wrong word. He played with a good amount of variety (different heights, speeds). Maybe the few things he did that could be categorized as junk were underhand serves and the forehand swipe slice that kyrgios does sometimes
I'm a 8.5 UTR and there's absolutely no way I can get a game off that dude. His foot work and movement is extremely good, he has good precision with his shots and he doesn't miss. You have 0% chance to overpower him, 5 rallies later you lose the point. Rinse and repeat. There are other UTR13s who has a monster weapon - like a huge serve or forehand or something. This guy's monster weapon is his precision and consistency. I bet if you hit 30% harder, everything will just come back probably 50% faster as well. Personally this is like the nightmare match up for me as I'm pretty sure nothing I throw at this guy would even phase him. lol
players like this biggest weakness is the inabillity to generate pace themself, key is to hit with very much topsin and move them around with slice
For those saying Francisco isn't a UTR 13, I understand his strokes are not flashy or sexy looking, but tennis is not a figure skating contest.
He's able to get the ball in play consistently and place the ball really well. He also has very good speed too.
Amen brother
@@skeet0rz Good luck in your next matches, keep at it, you'll get in the double digit UTR soon
FOOT FAULT - also there's no way they can be that highly ranked if you compare to Felix from Tennis Brothers
His UTR is now 11,97 for those wondering
What’s the “13”s name??? I don’t believe that for a second
Francisco Llanes. 12.80.
@@RaZorasiangamer It's Francisco Bastias actually.
I've seen him play a few college matches and he has had bad sportsmanship in every one of them
I experienced nothing of the sort. He was kind enough to let me film when I asked.
Honestly not much init tbf technique wise. I will say you get the short ball numerous times off your serve which is far better than Francisco’s and you don’t put enough on the next shot that is your strength. Somone like Francisco is gunna make 95% of the balls he can reach your strategy should be far more aggressive. If you miss, miss going for the winner
Wow. Imagine if this 13UTR player stops being lazy and actully bends his legs?
He doesn't look like a UTR13. Considering some pro's are UTR14 and above.
hes unassuming because he wasnt going hard. Doesnt mean he wasnt trying he was just playing very passive instead of aggressive like he would someone his own level. This kid can probably crank when he wants but this match he just pushed and let you dictate the pace.
How Francisco can be a 13 UTR, that's 6.0-7.0 ntrp.. ??
Something like that, ya.
That's too generous 3.0-4.0. At least in my country..
he is actually 13. Look the way he moves, he always have plenty of time, good timing... with a very common serve I admit (at least at the camera)
@@hussTennis You are too nice. Yes, they can play tennis, but that doesn't mean their ranking is correct. A UTR 13 in Belgium would absolutely crash both players. 6-0; 6-0 after 40min.
@@hussTennis I rather trust my eyes. Francisco can obviously play tennis. But he is not worth an ATP ranking, based on this video. ;)
He's a very good player but definitely not a UTR 13!
He is. He beat a UTR 11.5 in the final of this tournament 6-1, 6-1
Utr 13 is extremely high level. As I remember, Felix from tennis brothers was around 11 -12. To be 13, you already have atp ranking . I don’t think this red r shirt dude has ranking to justify utr 13. His service is …. Hmmm
@@ST-ek6lf totally agree with you
@@skeet0rz beating a utr 11.5 doesn’t mean he deserves to be a utr 13! It just means the guy with the utr 11.5 rating is lower level than him. He is definitely not a 13 look at the serve!

Who's 9 and who's 13?
america utr inflated
Alright, minecraft kid.
@@Raven05R6 dont diss minecraft
Francisco Bastias (Utah)
Both are Max 9 utr
Both good players. If you played more aggressive and not as stiff and made less errors you could have had a chance.
😂 got it. Why didn't I think of that?!
Maybe a 6 plus a 7 can = a 13! But no way in hell there’s a 13 on this court.
Ohio UTR
This is a 3.5 NTRP or 4-6 UTR verses a 4.0 or 6-8 UTR. A UTR 13 is a low 5.5 NTRP. NO WAY!!!
Look him up dude is legit utr 13 he played for utah
Lmao that guy is not a 13 he serves like a girl r u crazy
bruh this is not 13, 10.5 maybe
He’s a 13 on the dot. He’s double bageled a few 11s and 10s.
@@RaZorasiangamer I mean u can look up the top college players who are like 13 and they play way better than him
I'm sorry... but.. I've had to look up the conversion to the belgian system. You both are no not even close to UTR9. In Belgium, a UTR9 would beat both of you 6-0;6-0. No doubt about that.
I would rate you UTR 3 to 4 max.
No need conversion UTR is also in Belgium and it is reliable. The video gives this impression but if you look closer you will see that these players are perfectly at their level. I posted this match with UTR11 & UTR12 (-2/6 si tu connais les classement français) and the people keep telling me it is not their real ranking. But one of the player Gary Lugassy has been 200 ATP so it gives more credit to my talk 😉ua-cam.com/video/T6JzgYf7PdE/v-deo.html
@@hussTennis I don't understand why you are providing me a link of 2 players who clearly are better tennis players?
I'm not saying they can't play tennis.. I'm just saying that their ranking is too high compared to what I see on a weekly basis in Belgium. UTR4 (C+15/4 or nowadays 40 points) in Belgium will beat both of them. Why? their 1st serve is more solid, their forehand/backhand is more solid, less unforced errors, etc.
Utr is the same worldwide. A guy from an academy near me is actually from Belgium and is a 10.05 UTR. He got double bageled by the utr 13.
@@RaZorasiangamer well then he must play much better against better opponents. Because from this video, I don't rate him utr13..
He has a weak 1st serve. He does not have a strong forehand nor backhand. He moves good and is consistent, I'll give him that..
@@RaZorasiangamer I agree there is no difference for this ranking (IMO). But I notice that people always state that players are stronger at home and never the other way around.
so UTR10 which is double bagled by a 13 sounds pretty normal 😉
And to clarify, just look at Francisco page on ATP overview and no more question...
Dude looks too relax and still hand out a double bagel 🥯🥯
so relax it's scary ... I am sure half of the viewer won't believe he is UTR12.9...
@@hussTennis I barely believed it... Until he double 🥯 me
@@skeet0rz Always on the right side, easy on every shot like if he has plenty of time... younger (13 or 14)I played in tournament against a player (Hicham Arazi) who became ATP 22. I asked my mum after the match "how does he know where I am playing every time... like he reads in my mind..." later I understood why !
Guy in green Bill has lovely technique but his hands are just terrible, obviously chose the wrong sport….
@@dc0407 Many of us will fight years to reach UTR9... he has a really tough opposition but he is a very good player even if it is not comparable to the ATP
