VORP really makes sense to me. Career accumulative VORP is total bs though. I do have a question: is VORP really lower if you only play part of the game? To me it only makes sense if the contribution is scaled up to a full game.
I…don’t agree? None of these stats are perfect, and every executive is aware of that when looking at +/-, VORP, and WS. The idea is to make a formula that can match the eye test. Even if we all know that Embiid and Jokic are the best players, we want a number that compares these guys, and to know if the number isn’t matching reality.
eye test is so much more flawed than stats. Eye test told me Lakers swept the nuggets, but the stats keep saying that the nuggets scored more points. should get rid of points an just award the championship according to eye test.
Any stat that the average fan can't calculate himself can't have real meaning. Just like WAR in baseball. Metrics guys are divorcing themselves from the actual play of the game, and the more you do that, the less you can understand the game. I guarantee you, no player cares about these stats.
Why do u think Jokic is such an outlier? I think he’s a fantastic all time player but these numbers aren’t normal. Could it be because he mainly runs with the starters in Denver?
Sorry I forget what I said in this video. things have changed a bit for Jokic too. If his VORP is high I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the Denver line ups
You're not a data guy if you think the eye-test, snapshots of a player's oncourt performance, reveals more than the data which evaluates every minute on and off the court of a player's career.
TV sins just mentioned VORP. I don't know what that is that's why I looked it up. You were the first video, and I always judge a book from its cover. The opening picture looked fun, and I knew it wasn't going to be a teacher standing at a white board. During the I had to teach my kids how to do everything. So I was constantly hiding from my kids while I suffered through boring lectures on topics for my kids homework. Seems kind of stupid now but I didn't want my kids to know I didn't know how to do long division. Or why the sky is blue, or why syrup moves slower down a 45° degree slope then water. Ahhhh I'm having flashbacks. Too bad you weren't doing those videos during the,"I shouldn't say it's name more then once, just incase 😉
awesome video! Something to consider with Jokic's VORP, he gets extra points because the calculations for BPM (and in turn VORP) award more points for assists for big men. So being a passing big man actually inflates his VORP. He's still a great player nonetheless, just not to peak jordan or lebron levels.

honestly I don't remember it's been a long time since I've looked at this video.

I agree. It serves a purpose. I forget what I said in this video.

They usually just point out stuff we already know just from watching the game itself.

@@whatslaps I will miss you replying to each comment when the algorithm notices you
thank you
VORP was just explained to me more clearly
another ANALYTICAL stat thats complete garbage
Are you more of a PER or NET+- guy? ;)
@@whatslaps PER has it's flaws
Net +/- is better because you can see the real impact but you need big samples & you don't have data from every era
Horrible editing
thanks man!

Oh interesting I think I did know that, but forgot. I might revisit some of these advanced stats topics. glad you liked the video!
