This was on of the best, most humble, tutorials on modding a knife that I have ever seen. You are a man among men, in my opinion! Keep the videos coming...
Love your patina technique!!!!
You are a darn good teacher and what's more is, you're very personable and down to earth(got an arrogant or pretentious bone in your body). Thank you and good luck!!! Cory
Thank you Cory! Appreciate the kind words!
Very nice of you
I saw one opinel mod and been hooked ever since. Your channel has helped a ton. Loved the Texas mod, if I didn't do them myself I'd definitely drop some $$$ on it
+Hail to The_Rooster glad it helped you my friend!
Used to do artwork on pencil, then with a magnifying lens sit in the sun as a kid and burn the design into the wood. Also helps with fire craft and learning to start fires with no matches or lighter😆

Fantastic video. I've done plenty of burning before but hardly any carving. Really liked that blade treatment too!Another super lesson.
Thank you bud!
That turned out amazing.Thank You for providing these tutorials and I cant wait for the next one.
+Brian Davis glad you like it Bro!
great stuff ! i coffee stained my blade, i'd read it doesn't last as long as the acids in the mustards etc, but mine has... and i'm very happy with it ! it's had some use, some cleaning and a lil coconut oil light greasing.... still looks good.
I love watching your videos and love the way you put links to better tools and the cheaper option. Thank you for making it so easy to understand for us beginner's 😃
Thank you Rose! So glad you enjoy them!
Thank you for showing us your secrets ... very very easy and effective!
Glad you are enjoying them!
I'm sending this video a like just because you seem like a good guy making the world a better place. Keep it up
Haha thank you bro!
1st time i have seen your work in a few vids you have taught me a lot I shall definitley
Awesome glad you are learning my friend!
Thinking of purchasing an Opinel #8 and #9, and these kind of mods are right up my alley since I love modding and crafting stuff. Another couple of really cool options you can do on these, is inlayed patterns on the handles using crushed Turquoise and the thin CA glue to set it with, or thermally transferred images like woodland or farm / hunting scenes.....simply make a photocopy on a printer to the size you want that fits the handle, flip it toner side down, tape it at the edges to secure against movement, then using your wood burning shader tip, turn up to pretty warm but not so hot it burns the paper upon touching it, and just shade over the toner to heat it up and transfer the image to the wood, light sand and poly, DONE and it looks fantastic. Great job, you earned a new sub brother !
Fantastic advice! Thank you so much, Darrell! I look forward to seeing you around!
@@CorneliusCreationswell Matt, here it is one year later and I’ve only just this week ordered an Opinel #8 to play around with. If interested in how mine turns out , what’s an email I can send a few pics to ?

Good idea! Thanks man!
mám rád nože Opinel, pěkná práce
Excellent video thank you...I have a heap of the Opinel knives and been thinking of doing the handles with a bit of class and surprising enough the wood burning unit you use I thought would have to come from overseas but bugger me there is a place here in Auckland NZ just down the road from my work that sells that brand....gonna have to get one for sure ...😄😄
I enjoyed your tutorial very much and your enthusiasm is contagious. All the best in all future endeavors .
Comments like this are one and a million! Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you. Loving your channel.

Top video, excellent, I'm going to try this on my old opinels, thanks for sharing.
Wow! What a nice guy! 😄
I like to think so haha
Your videos are great!
Glad you enjoy them!
Awesome! loved the patina!
Thank you!
Great tips and great video!
+Tim Thompson glad you enjoyed it my friend!
Another great video. Just taken delivery of my dremmel after watching your intro to rotary wood carving video. The knife project looks a great one to start with. Did you outline the bubbles at all or was that effect purely from the mustard mix?
Hello! as I have said before thank you for the video and inspiration. I am mostly done with personalizing my first opinel knife and I was just curious about the sheath and how you harden/bake it. (Like how you keep its rounded shape, How you restring it, What strings you use to restring it, What part during the hardening you can burn designs into the leather). Maybe if it isn't too much to ask you could do a mini video about how you personalized the sheath. Thank you so much again!
I will add that to my list. The leather is about 6oz veg tan. Meaning it’s pretty hard and it doesn’t loose shape. The leather you have in mind is about 1-2oz. That is real flimsy in thin. I will do some leather work videos soon :)
Hey Bro. Thank you very much.
God bless you and your hands.
Same to you! Thank you!
That was soo cool man.thanks alot for sharing this👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
That's awesome, great video

Appreciated sharing, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really cool video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work, really like how the blade came out.
Thank you man!
Cornelius Creations I made a video with my boys and the mustard, adding rain drops to a Opinel. I gave you credit for the project idea on the video.
Just watched it man! That is awesome! I subbed too!
Cornelius Creations Awsome! Thanks a lot.
Youre awesome man!
Thank you, you too!
Круто спасибо большое вам
Nice job👍👍
Thank you!
WOW !! Good job 😀
Thank you!
Thank you for this video im getting one and modding it for my father in law
Glad I could help!
More carving videos on Opinel thanks 👍
You got it!
Love your video. Very informative and helpful. Best wishes!
Thank you!
Thanks I will use this patina and I like those finger holds too and wood burning. I only have a soldering iron.... also can you wrap the whole blade in vinegar after that patina to protect the whole thing
Right on man!
Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
Excellent video but I am curious why you just don't take the knife apart first. You can take it apart and put it back together in less than five minutes. I realize taping up the handle can be useful but there are better ways of clamping the handle.
Wow good Job, very beautiful👍🏻
Thank you!
I'm noticing an accent.
New York/New Jersey????
I'm just playin. Awesome vid,new sub. I just ordered an Opinel 9. Let me get used to the knife, then I'll PIMP IT OUT. Thanx for sharing knowledge, creativity and talent.
Haha! A little more South than that! Glad you enjoyed the video bro
This was a very educational video. You are very well spoken and explain things in detail. I just subscribed. What other kind of videos do you make ?
Thank you, Steven! Woodcarving & creative laser engraving projects
Just subbed!
Awesome man thank you!
How much do you sell this type of modified knife for? I love the videos and have recently started wood carving. Your videos have been a great guide for starting out!
I'm working on dressing up my every day carry and I was wondering on the patina,
How well will the patina hold up with use?
Also how does it affect the patina if you leave the compound on the metal longer like say for an hour?
What about 12 hours?
Will that make the patina hold up better with everyday use?
patina only works with carbon, if you have the stainless it will not work
Ahh thanks, just wanted to do it but i sadly have the INOX Version. The Carbon Version is better to sharpen isnt it?
Good to know, thanks
@@Trichromasie carbon steel is easier to sharpen and in some ways stays sharper... amongst a bit more abuse. In my opinion carbon steel is just better save for the fact it COULD rust... however if you patina the knife the right way rust will be of very little concern. Get another opinel, they are cheap enough :)
Your video is great
Thank you sir!
is the opinel a folding knife and where can they be purchased are they carving knives?
c est une bonne idee!!!!
always learn something
Yep!
Good video
Thank you!!
That's cool. I guess the mustard is because the oil emulsion thickens your concoction, but why do we use a mix of acetic acid AND citric acid?
Can u enhance in the same way the stainless steel blade ?
great video, i wondered if its possible to do patina letters? like a name?
With a little work I am sure it is possible
Amazing work...may i ask you how to remove spots on the blade if i wanted to ????? Is there any way ???
That will be hard to do! Light sanding with 1500+ grit sandpaper
Subscribed and loved the vid. Was that blade carbon or stainless steel?
Hey Tim! Glad you liked it bro! That is carbon.
Great Tutorial, thanks a lot.
What I would like to do is etch my thumbprint on the blade. Do you think it will work if I press my thumb on the blade (after cleaning it first) and then cover that area with the mustard mix?
I'm hoping that the mustard won't stain the blade where the grease from my thumbprint it, but as I've never done this before I'm not sure if it works or not..
Hmm... That is very creative but i’m not sure if it will take a full thumbprint. It would definitely be something to try just to see what happens!
@@CorneliusCreations I know, my thumb is certainly bigger than a opinel blade. I was just wondering if the grease from my fingers would be enough to stop the etching fluid, while still etching between the ridges. We'll have to try I suppose! Thanks for your reply anyway.
Does the patina method work with opinel inox knives?
Does it work for inox blades?
Is anything possible for inox blades?
Great video, have you ever tried linseed oil?
Yes I have but I don't like the natural color of the beech.
You're like the Bob Ross of rotary tools.
Hahahahaha. Thank you man!
Is it possible to get the same result with an inox blade?
Hey bro. Will you please do an Antonini Old Bear mod ? Nice work by the way.
I will add that to my list!
@@CorneliusCreations Thank you so much
I use nothing but leather dyes instead of stain. Also use boiled linseed oil and 0000 steel wool. I still need a wood burner!
Top😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is awesome! When you are 14years old.
I love your videos... In fact I tried my hand at missing a hammer... Will try to post a picture in a reply to this comment... Please let me know what you think. Any advice will be welcome.
Ok... Can't figure out how to post a picture here in the comments, but I do have a facebook page. Please have a look and leave any thoughts in the messages. Like I said before, I would appreciate any and all input. My facebook page is "Tattooed Metal". I sincerely hope you visit me there.
Hey Michael I will visit you asap! I would love to see your work
Hello, I was thinking about starting doing this as a source of income and was wondering if you sell yours and if so, for how much?
if you did this on a kitchen knife would you have to coat the blade afterwards? to cut food safely?
A lot of kitchen knives are made of Stainless instead of High Carbon so this won't particularly work that well with any kitchen knife. A lot of people use a patina like this for their outdoor knives to protect it against rust and such.
If bought another opinel, and sent it to you could you modify it for me, I cut my finger trying to take the pin out to remove the blade to put gun blue on it
