Thank you! just did this to my 2006 Tacoma base model (4cyl, 2wd, access cab) and it worked. I did go to Discount tire and verified that one sensor battery was totally dead and the others were just about dead before doing this. I had just put new tires on 8 months ago so paying to replace the sensors now didn't make sense. I can tell when a tire is low on air without a sensor telling me anyway. That flashing light is annoying. not anymore. Thanks again.

I just did this today. 01/01/2023 Worked great. The only issue that I had was that they hid the wire block under electrical tape in the back of the larger wiring harness. it was completely wrapped in tape, so was hard to locate. But I did find it, cut and grounded the blue wire. Light is out!!!! Thank you.

Woohoo and thank you! +1 for it works on my 2006 V-6 Taco Base 4x4 with 400K+ miles. I've only been living with the TPMS light on solid for 300K+ miles when the first of all sensor batteries died and I am too frugal to buy new ones. Also +1 for someone who is going to use a tire gauge on a regular basis anyway, with or without sensors. All that's left is to get the goo off the dash lens from where I covered it many moons ago with electrical tape. Maybe I'll just leave the goo in place for sentimental reasons...

Nice video! On my '05 Tacoma this light stayed solid on since I bought it brand new. Dealership couldn't fix it, so I just ignored it. But recently it started flashing which is really annoying. I was considering to either put electrical tape over the light or remove the lightbulb, if that's even possible. But this fix much better, easier and probably more proper.

Thanks for the video you made it worked on my 2006 Tacoma crew cab TRD .
I got off-road tires and wheels and I got the flashing light on my dash. I went to Firestone and replaced all 5 TPMs and the light was still flashing. I went back to Firestone and told them that the work they did , did not fix anything the light was still flashing. Firestone removed and refunded me back after 3 months . Story short thanks for your help.

@@alphabravocharlie2245 what year? '08 and up you need to spice 2 wires behind the hvac controls. In 05-07, the tpms modules expected no voltage which is why grounding it works. But after 08 and up, it expects like 5.3v _constantly._ In those later years of gen 2s you actually need to ground that wire _and_ pull off your hvac controls and splice 2 wires together. It's still a really easy project though

I'm not sure this works on all gen 2's. I'm pretty sure that 2008-2015, just grounding that wire alone won't work because the tpms module expects constant voltage. In those later models, I think you also need to splice 2 wires on a connector behind the hvac controls

You'll just need to splice the blue wire into the red/white wire. Worked for my 08. This is the same procedure as the HVAC controls access, but much easier in this location. It's just adding 12v to the blue wire which turns off the TPMS light.

Heads up this mod will NOT work on 2013 (and I'm guessing '14 and '15, possibly '12) Tacomas. For those models, use this mod: ua-cam.com/video/S3Nu42V4zRU/v-deo.html . I tried both, wound up putting my blue glove box wire back together and digging out the TPMS module itself from behind the heat/AC controls, and splicing the blue wire into the red striped one. If you do this glove box mod first, and then do the splice at the tpms module, it will NOT work. The blue wire behind the glove box must be connected for the splice behind the HVAC unit mod to work (another reason to add connectors like OP did). Unfortunately, that mod requires you to pull the whole dash apart, but if you're patient, it is not all that hard. My TPMS light is finally gone for good!

What gauge wire did you use?

  • @keeweeles

Hi So after looking at this video I see my plug also has a black wire beside the blue and this trick didnt work.
I worked out that this needed the 5v input to the blue wire that this video shows to ground.
My Truck is a 2011 version and my wife's is a 2010 and they are the same plug with a black wire besides the Blue one so I'm guessing its a later version.
What i did to fix it was i put a stepdown converter in line with the red /white wire in that same plug ( which is 12v)
The converters are cheap and they stepdown from like 35v -about 1.5v there is many types but the one here on amazon are adjustable so you can adjust the output on the blue pot.
If you connect the Negative input to ground and The positive to the red/white wire you can adjust the output to 5.5v.
Then just connect the output positive to the blue wire on the plug and the light will turn off.
This works with the plugs that have the extra black wire to the left of the blue wire on the plug.
The output 5.5v negative you don't have to connect to ground as it has its own internal ground.
I think its easier than trying to get to the sending unit behind the radio etc..
Worth trying as it worked for me rather than grounding it and i have a few stepdown converters laying around.:) Hope it helps

No, you have to break the circuit and ground it. Depinning at the connector and making a jumper wire with a pin on one end and a ground ring on the other end would keep the original wire available for a clean reconnection if ever desired. If you can't make the jumper, get someone to make it and install it.

Just tried it and it also didn’t work. Took Clint’s advice and put it in the red/white wire and it’s now off.

@@clintgroom3232 the red one didn’t work for mine. I put it in the red/white. Let’s hope it doesn’t jack something up. Just tired of that dang light. Lol thanks buddy.

Will this work for a 2005 Tundra? Does it have the same wiring configuration? Thanks.
