Everyone talking like he dropped it when you can clearly see that the part of the cymbal that you hold onto snapped, he’s holding the snapped bit in his hand before he puts it down with the other cymbal.
this happened to me in 8th grade once. the class had just finished with the final rehearsal, about 10 hours before the concert. we were bringing our instruments back to the band classroom because percussion has to bring all of their instruments back (snare drums, bass drums, the timpani, any cymbals we might've used, any small instruments like the cowbell and triangle, keyboard instruments like the marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone, and the gong if we used it). I had one crash cymbal under my right arm and the other one in my right hand, while carrying a snare drum on it's stand in my left hand. I was just coming up to the door when the strap for the cymbal I was holding snapped, and the cymbal hit the floor with a loud crash.
Lauren Andrews I agree. I played a little bass drum in band and that was HORRIBLE technique. The way she pulled her WHOLE arm and shoulder to hit it.. ew
Hi! Percussion Cymbal player in band here!! Here’s some random explanation no one asked for :] The Cymbal didn’t break, it had fell apart, also he was holding it incorrectly. long explanation btw- The reason it broke was because the strap on the cymbal wasn’t tightened enough or correctly, causing it to come undone and fall apart. The way he is holding the cymbals was also incorrect, you aren’t supposed to hold the straps like how he was in the video, what you’re supposed to do is; Look at how it flips to one side (this determines if it’s left or right), put your correct hand through, and put your thumb around the other side of it from where it comes out. Not only does this give you a more firm, better and tighter grip on the cymbals, but you can also let go and (if tightened correctly), they’ll stay on, not slip off, and just hang from your hands (as your palms prevent it from falling off fully if tightened right). Also he put the other Cymbal down wrong. It’s meant to go back side up, not facing down as if you face it down when setting it down, it will make a lot of noise. I know this but doesn’t really matter, but it still annoys me So basically the kid was holding it wrong, it wasn’t tightened enough or correctly, causing it to fall apart, and set them down wrong. But considering how difficult it is to tie/tighten a cymbal, the kid did the next best thing instead of panicking and trying to fix them mid song, causing a disruption.
No one seems to have posted this but an explanation why he doesn't pick up the symbols, is because in America tradition, you are not supposed to pick up a flag, or anything to do with America after it has fallen and touched the ground. You are supposed to burn it in a ceremonial event, then salute it away as the ashes rise, followed by gunshots in the air. Here, the event is already going on so this fine lad is doing a very patriotic thing by leaving it there. Great little guy, love his reaction! Someone taught him very well how to handle this.
That's bullshit and I should know because I am an American. The only reason he didn't pick it up is because the strap broke. Plus, you can't burn a cymbal as it's made of metal. You'd need to throw it into a machine used to forge steal to make it melt down. And they won't do that because cymbals are not cheap to replace. They'll either have to find a way to put the strap back on, or they'll just throw it out and get a new one. And he only saluted the flag because he was trying to save himself from embarrassment and since they were doing the national anthem he figured 'why not'. Don't spread such lies because aside from burning the flag (which is true) everything you just said was absolute bs. My family is made up of veterans who were very patriotic but I have never heard of such crock in my life.
