its actually impossible to have one favorite queen song Lol that being said their performance of Somebody To Love live in montreal is one of their greatest performances, your ears and soul will be blessed. also their live aid performance, its considered the greatest rock performance of all time.
the name queen was Freddie's suggestion. he was aware of it being unusual for a group of guys but he chose it because it sounded regal and splendid to him and it was easy to remember.

Brian May (lead guitarist) and Roger Taylor (drummer) were in a group called Smile with Tim Stafford (lead vocalist & bass guitarist). Freddie was friends with Tim, Roger, & Brian. When Tim left to join another group (Humpty Bong), Freddie convinced Roger and Brian to continue playing and then joined them to form a new group. John Deacon (bass guitarist) joined them later after they tried out several other bass players.
Freddie felt that they were a new group and they needed a new name other than Smile. While the name change to "Queen" was the work of Freddie Mercury alone, the others went along with it because they knew how particular and persistent Freddie was with his opinions and perfectionist behavior. His personality is actually one of the main reasons he joined and subsequently left so many bands before forming Queen.
Freddie liked the idea that the word "queen" had multiple meanings in England at the time. All he would ever say that the name would distinguish them from other groups of the time and lend them a royal flare. Of course, he knew Queen was a reference to a homosexual male, but it could also mean a poser or even the monarch herself. He liked that the meaning was ambiguous. Like most things in his life, he never felt the need to explain. Offstage, he was quiet, shy, and reserved, totally the opposite of his onstage demeanor.

He felt that the name Queen was majestic and pretentious. That it conveyed a sense of outrageousness and was "over the top." It was also a very simple name and easy to remember, prerequisites for any good marketing operation.
The crest he designed features a phoenix symbolizing the new band rising from the remains of the old band "Smile," as well as the astrological signs for all four band members.

My absolute favorite? It changes every day, depending on my mood. One of my favorites? Love Of My Life, live at Wembley, 1986, or for the first Speed Metal song ever performed on camera, Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow. Metallica later remade the song and won some music awards, but nothing comes close to the original. The name Queen didn't have the same (drag queen) name connection it does today. People kinda knew about it, but nothing like the recognition it gets today. Brian snd Roger came from a band called Smile. Freddie wanted a new name, a new start, a new style. Freddie came up with the name Queen, and when asked, he responded that it sounded Regal. It had an aura, and instant name recognition. Brian May later said it also was a wink to every person in the "know".

Favorite - Don't Stop Me Now. How Queen got the name (according to Wiki) Bulsara (Mercury) suggested the group should be renamed to "Queen". The others were uncertain at first, but he said "it's wonderful, dear, people will love it".

Ok this is hard they touch on so many different styles of music. They said they never wanted to repeat themselves. I always say my favorite is the last song I listened to. You don’t know how big Queen is. Freddie, Brian, Roger all had there own solo work. Roger was the front man of a group” The Cross” he did that while touring with Queen & his own solo work. And then there’s Queen + Adam Lambert. You should do there Live Aid set.👑 Now my favorite songs well I love early & later Queen. “In the Lap of the Gods,” 74 @ The Rainbow✨”Tie Your Mother Down” 86 Wembley.👍

There are so many Queen songs that are fantastic. I really like Love of my life written by Freddie for his wife Mary. Queen are so much better live IMO and are best listened to with a headset. Live performances to note are Queens Live Aid performance, regarded by many as the best live performance by anyone ever. Somebody to love, Montreal 81 and their full concert in Wembley Stadium in 86 is also awesome.

White Queen, it is amazing, but it's very different. You really should watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody with Rami Malek as Freddie. Not now, wait until you hear most of their songs. It's impossible to pick your favorite because each song is so different. Love of My Life is also one of their best. I saw two queen concerts back in the day and would have gone to more if Freddie hadn't passed away. LOVE your reactions. You are a very cute couple

One of my top queen songs bravo yall are awesome . Originally called Smile, singer Freddie Mercury came up with the new name for the band, later saying: "Years ago I thought up the name 'Queen'… It's just a name , but it's very regal obviously, and it sounds splendid… It's a strong name very universal and immediate

Freddie said he picked the name because it was unique (bands were just starting to have single word names, vs "The ----'s"), it symbolized class, being "British", regality, and.. as someone said, "He was perfectly aware of the gay connotations".

they took the name from 2 earliest songs in their list: White Queen, and The March of the Black Queen - WQ was written by Brian long before the band formed, and I think MotBQ was begun around the time they started, am pretty sure it's one of Freddie's songs. White Queen live at Odeon 1975 is my fave, there's a jam in it that's totally outRAGeous❣️

Not quite Miss! "Love of My Life" wasn't performed at Live Aid, it was however, performed at the Live Magic Tour where Queen performed at Wembley for two nights nearly one yr to the day they performed at Live Aid: remember, Queen only had 17 minute set at Live Aid and that consisted of: "Bo-Rhap" (abbreviated), "Radio GAGA," "Hammer to Fall," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "We Will Rock You" (abbreviated), & "We Are the Champions." Bri 'n Freddie did another song later that evening: "Is This the World We Created?" just before McCartney was to perform.
Live Aid was 13 July 1985 at Wembley
Live Magic Tour 11 & 12 July 1986 at Wembley

Favorite? FAVORITE??? I don't know how it's possible to HAVE a single favorite. Not only are there just so MANY outstanding tracks to choose from....there's such a wide range of styles that it's almost impossible to compare them to each other.
Having said that, I have a particular love for side two of Queen II. Ogre Battle, Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, The March of the Black Queen - it's all so incredibly baroque....just over the top...and I love it to death. And the album closes out with The Seven Seas of Rhye - short but so good! Don't know if I can honestly say any of these are my favorite...but they're DAMN good. lol

Would LOVE to see your reaction to "Innuendo". This song was sung by Freddie in the last album he participated in, about 10 months before he died. Guitarist Brian May said Freddie was getting weaker by then, but he propped himself up at the recording studio, downed some vodka, and sang the song in one take. BTW, the name Queen was freddie's idea. He thought it sounded so "royal." He was a design major in college and he even designed the Queen logo.
