- A short film based on the renovation work on the Belhaven cafe in Wishaw Lanarkshire, between 1948 to 1955. The film captures tradesman at work, masons, joiners and glaziers, the cocozza family and the interest of passers-by.

Watching the auld chippy s (joiners )at work none of your fancy battery drills in use takes me back.the old hand plane and a pad and bits.
great to see the film and transformation...63 years ago ....wow and hardly an electric tool in sight....old style craftsmanship.
As an apprentice electrician in mid 70s Glasgow nothing struck fear better than being told " you will need 2 trestles and a catwalk" to do a job..we used them with the catwalk on the top to repair canopy lights in petrol stations.. God help you if you accidently stepped back (or forward)
Can't believe what I'm seeing, I'm sure the younger joiner with slick back hair @ 8.28 is my Uncle John(Jack) Love from Larkhall, who went on to marry a
Shotts girl, moved to East Lothian in late 50's, now living in Bundaberg Australia for the last 24 years .Jack will be 88 years old ,his wife sadly passed away 3 years ago
Brilliant film, great to see proper tradesmen and apprentices working, just grateful that the place is still there, a testament to good business.
Thank you for the nostalgia, Shane/bigscotsman1. *Subscribed!*
Circa 1980, in Livingston, West Lothian, my friend *Andy Cocozza* and I practised his songs, in hopes that we may form a band.
Andy played a Gibson SG guitar. I played bass. Andy was/is an extra-talented songwriter that I have never forgotten.
I have tried for many years to re-connect with Andy, without success.
Can you (or your subscribers/viewers) help in any way, please?
All the best.

Marvelous to see these guys work with the hand tools!
The dog 😊 it's so nice..i remember Enrico, i really liked him, what a character he was 👌
Loved this. A little before my time but reminded me of my Apprenticeship Days. My foreman wore a suit jacket and trousers to work and he commended me on polishing my boots every day before work.
Proper good little film that 👌 👍 👏
Magical wee film, in the quest for modernisation. Funny enough, in these modern times, 60s/70s signages are being removed to disclose the old, faded hand painted signs of yore. Wishaw does indeed look quaint. Trades folk with no hard hats or high vis vest; older hands with suit jackets roll ups and newspaper in the pocket! And the dog was an absolute star! Stroll On!

Excellent
Found an old Wishaw Press from June 1963 with the disappearance of a 16 year old Rose Sullivan from Newmains, and a male accordionist from Coatbridge, due to perform at the Largs show. Glad to have found your video!
Great film, thanks for posting. Enrico was a nice wee gentleman with a vast record collection.
Cracking film Shane. I didn't realize you were as old.
brilliant blast from the past
Con Mc Gowan from the pub next door(West End Bar)having a look.
@@dossieful really amazing time capsule :) the old Belhaven :)
What a great wee film, thanks for posting. Wishaw had two great cafes, this and the Carlton up Kirk Road. This brought back a lot of great memories.
Absolutely brilliant. That's when our wee town looked amazing. Wish Wishaw still looked like this.
This gave me absolute goosebumps. I wish wishaw still looked like this.
This brilliant wee film brought back so many memories and how fascinating to watch the tradesmen at work in days of old
Belhaven Chippie now.
Once known as Sweaty Bettys
Exactly where was the Bellhaven Cafe in Wishaw? Is it still there? If not, is the building still there? Fascinating historical film!
The golden fry chip shop
Didn’t worry about dust then going in your lungs they made a good job of it though
