We used to drain the oil on machines and put it trough an milkfilter( paper filter on an funnel shaped holder). The filtered oil can be used for a lot of things, we used it for our chainsaws or even fill up our ancient machinery in between oil changes when they use some oil. Easiest way to check if the oil is nay good, after filtration is just put some between your fingers and rub them together. Water will make it rough as well as dirt. Also for use of making wooden poles rot resistent by putting the ends in a bucket with oil and some diesel and let it soak for a night. The wooden beams wil not rot for many decades to come😂
Really enjoy your vids👍👍👍👍 this weekend can not go bust anymore😊 thanks for another great vid👍 together with dieselcreek and andrew camarata i think you guys make the best vids ( every one in their own specific way) on the internet🍺🍺🍺

We just wash the oil filter for the turbo and its ok. The oil filter for the engine (centrifu....😅) you almost opened. After you unscrew the 32 or 36 mm nut it doesnt always fall apart, sometimes you need to hit it with hamer or something to get those two parts opened/seperated. It is important to clean the inside of it. Also there you can see if you have small metal peaces to your used oil and then you know if your engine is bad😅. Small amount of metal peaces is okey but if you find a lot of them then you know your engine have few time left ti live. Anyway nice video. It was fun to watch. Hydraulic oil is hygroscopic, that's why there is rust, the moisture content is high and will darken the fluid. It will rust the pump and other components causing excessive wear.. it's probable haven't been changed in years, if ever. Wouldn't go wrong by changing it

Good call in doing the service. Great thanks to the shout out as well. I think the rake breaking was like I have had it with this work.🤣 It's just my guess but maybe the T-170 high pressure fuel pump has been swapped out to a remanufactured pump later? It looks kind of very newish to say the least. I could not find the year when they switched over to the newer style high pressure fuel pump. The high pressure fuel pump on these is a old CAT D4/D6 clone/remanufactured variant. The one on your T-40 is a UTN-5 that is a old Bosch inline pump being redesigned by soviet engineers in the 60s. I would not be surprised if these where the old OEM paper elements in the hydraulic filter. Over all good and very decent progress, keep on going.

VERY good work 👌👌👌on your dozer (including the very underrated benefit of cleaning/pressure wash the machine on a regular basis) I believe your dozer never had so much maintenance since new. About final drive plug; I do have succes by removing rusty plug with; 1- wire brush to remove most of the rust 2- than soak/spray it with high viscosity penetrating liquid to follow/penetrate the tread 3- do it/repeat it until it get loose. Sometime heat/torch can help a lot also. Can take some time (believe me...) Nice to see things are going well for you. Looking for Part 2 ✌✌✌✌✌

I think it is fantastic, first clean the machine. I see comments that it is a waist of time to clean. Dad ran a large shop until retirement. They had a sign, i remember. “OUR SHOP IS CLEAN OUR TOOLS ARE CLEAN OUR COVERALLS ARE CLEAN KEEP IT THAT WAY CLEAN YOUR EQUIPMENT OR DON’T BRING IT IN. that was the busiest shop in the area. They wouldn’t touch anything that was greasy mud, dirt packed, dripping with oil, there was a hose and wash station next door. That was quite busy. People, farmers, realized it cost less to have their people, children clean their equipment than to take filthy stuff to . Joes fixit.

Lots of work! Really messy! LoL But if I had my own bulldozer I would gladly do it too!
You could make you mother and or wife a green house out of that glass or in close a porch for the cooler times of year. Whatever you do I’m sure it will be great! As always, enjoy the videos!😊

    Just havin loads of fun!
Amount of iron filings on the engine oil plug magnet seemed relatively small to me. Not good ofcourse but for a machine like that it is probably a win.
A thing about copper gasket rings. If they look good I reuse them, but only after anealing them first. I also aneal new ones. Makes them softer and there is no need t tighten them til kingdome comes. Just heat 5hem until the glow good and driop them into water, or just letting them cool on something non cobustable.
    Nice video as usual.
    Great thanks!

@@Ants_Pants btw. Forgot to precise what I said about the iron filings on the oil plug magnet. Probabaly it is there due to the thinned out oil. Just be vigilant and keep a keen eye on the levels and viscosity. If that amount of iron filings keeps on accumulating despite correct oil condituons then you need to start plan the new video series on how to extract, renovate and restart a magnificent piece of Soviet motoring. 😄👍

i think you should add a soft bristle brush to your cleaning of filters. and high pressure air is also quite helpful to blow out after a rinse.

In my family the first 5 were girls, then my brother. (finally). When we reached our teens my dad would make us help him do maintenance on the cars. Fluid & filter changes, brakes etc. He was afraid that if we never got married, we at least have basic knowledge and not get ripped off by repair shops. I actually found your video very interesting. As for all those windows? I imagined a new and improved greenhouse. In case you run out of things to do. Ha Ha.
When you mentioned your grandfather, it occurred to me that I found your early video on how you came to live in your house and the history fascinating. Could you do a new recap for some of your subscribers? Have a great weekend! Ohio

@@Ants_Pants Sorry, I was vague. I recall you saying your grandparents worked on the property when it was used as a nursing home? I can't remember, but glad you and your family now live there. Your reconstruction was monumental and thought newer subscribers would find it inspiring. Again, thank you.
