great video.. loved the part about not having cheat days.. I am 50 I ride every day rain or sun. I dont eat between meals and never after 20:00. I at 6foot1 I weigh 78Kgs.. the exact same weight as when I was racing at 23. When I was 22 I was heavier and I was having my butt kicked off at every race...really hard..So over that winter I went out ever night in the north of England in the rain the snow, the fog..after evening meal of rice boiled chicken and veg. I came back in that spring and in the very first race rode 25 miles in 57 mins.. I never looked back.. now I ride for fun with the MTB and with the kids... I'm dont want to sound like I am blowing my own trumpet but I pride myself that I am one of the fittest in the street... the other day the neighbors were comparing beer guts..... I could only shake my head...

Very inspirational TomTom. Thanks. I’m also 6’1” and have lost 3.6 kg to get down to 87 kg during COVID-19. I started riding an old, used mountain bike when the local trails and bike paths re-opened. Hadn’t ridden for 40 years. I’m 64. My original goal was to loose 4.5 kg. After your story and the original post I think I’ll increase my weight loss goal to 10 kg.

@@steveg.3022 Hi Steve well done. Great to head that you are also making good progress. Keep going :) I am still riding every day and I feel great. Got to add that to all the riding I need some extra "fuel" between meals but I have kept it super healthy. Lots of fruit , whole grains + I drink quite a bit of raw milk from the local farm. etc..Otherwise I probably would fall through a crack in the pavement lol..

This is pretty cool. I lost 55 pounds a few years ago doing exactly this. Change the diet, and ride my bike. I went from dying, out of breath after a quarter mile, to doing 24 miles and not really being that tired or sore. It only took a few months to get to that. Good stuff.

Man, just wanna thank you for making this video. I’m 27 and used to race competitively in my teens when I weighed 178. Quit racing and gained almost 70 pounds. Two months ago I got absolutely disgusted with myself and decided that I’m getting back into racing. Went to UA-cam to motivation and found this, and it’s been great.. two months in and I’m down 26 pounds. About 40 more to go, but I’m doing great. Every time I start to lose motivation I watch this again, because I love your no nonsense, sympathy free attitude.

This video really resonated with me and is so true!! In my late teens and early twenties I raced every week and was super fit, then life got in the way and I got my late thirties and got stuck in a rut. Fast forward to forty and I've lost nearly 30kg (sorry, I do metric) by riding my mountain bike and eating better, it really is a win win. Great vid mate, really felt motivated by it 🤘🏻

Great story, very similar to mine. I'll be 60 years old this month. I started mountain biking 7 months ago. I didn't crazy diet but I watched what I ate, and I rode my bike every chance I had. No scenic tours, I pushed myself to get better every time I went out. I lost 30 pounds in the first 3 to 4 months. Makes you wonder... I love fire roads and singletrack, being out in nature, and I'm loosing weight at the same time... why did I wait so long.

As soon as I saw the title, I knew this vid would do well, then I actually watched it and was blindsided by how much it resonated with me. I actually lost over 40lb a few years back thanks to a combination of mountain biking and running. But since then it's slowly come back on and I'm almost back to my old weight again - thanks to snacking mostly, and choosing the easy option at dinner time. Diet coke was your big soda, for me it's Pepsi Max and funnily enough I've given it up this week - like you I was drinking a couple of large bottles of the stuff every 2-3 days and whilst it is sugar free, it sure doesn't make you feel any less hungry! You've inspired me with this very laid back and relaxed monologue, and I saw on reddit that it's working for others too. Great video man, really appreciated this one.

I'm in the same boat. Got fit and slowly lost it. Now I know about "set point." Once you reach that "goal" you have to maintain it for at least five years experts say before it becomes your new norm. Getting fit isn't about 6 months or a year it's for the long haul. 🍀

Thanks for this! I sent this to my father. Hoping he gets on that mtb I bought him for Christmas a little more often. I found a lot of parallels with your story. His son ( me ) is an RN and have had the same conversation with him many times. He doesn’t drink diet soda, but he does drink “light beer”. I’m also guessing you’re a Texan. If you are, so are we, although I now live in WI. I wish I was closer so I could ride with him and keep him on the bike a little more. Again thanks for the vid. I’m making my dad watch it.

Awesome video! I suffered a major heart attack and under went emergency open heart surgery at the beginning of the covid -19 pandemic. I wasn't allowed into cardiac rehab due to the pandemic so I decided to do my own rehab. I started riding a mountain bike that I literally had pulled out of a dumpster last year. One year ago I could not ride that bike more than one mile without stopping and gasping for breath. Well I started riding in May( 3 months after my triple bypass surgery), and I haven't looked back. I now ride 15 miles every morning when I wake up and I'm feeling great. I'm 57 years old, I've lost 33 lbs and my plan is to lose 22 more to get me down to 170 lbs. I get a subtle remain reminder every morning when I see the 15" scar on my chest when I look in the mirror. Other than rehabbing, I didn't really have a goal. Now I want to push myself to get in the best physical shape i can. It feels awesome. I feel great. Your video was very inspiring for me. Thank You for sharing.

Can confirm, ever since I started bike riding my fat percentage is FINALLY going down. I'm eating properly for a year now or so -- but I couldn't get below 20% body fat, but now it's finally going down with the help of cardio (bike riding).

  • @sixstanger00
    @sixstanger00 5 років тому +1

I got into MTB'ing for the fun factor -- my weight has never been a problem(140 lbs), but over the past couple of years I've come to realize that biking does more than just maintain/reduce body weight -- there's a whole laundry list of health improvements. The cardio gets your heart pumping, keeping it strong and reducing the risk of heart failure. Increased heart rate keeps blood pumping through your arteries, reducing the risk of blockages, stroke, & heart attack. Heavy breathing keeps fresh air circulating into your lungs. Drinking water and/or Gatorade during rides keeps your system flushed out. Gatorade in particular, has citric acid in it which prevents kidney stones from forming. The vibration from the ride also keeps them from forming. There's also a wealth of mental benefits -- your coordination, balance, reaction time, focus, etc all improve. Being outdoors, along with the exercise boosts your immune system.
Mountain biking and/or road biking is highly recommended by doctors as a form of exercise. The best part is, it's FUN! I've never been on a ride where it felt like a "workout" -- I was having too much fun to think about that.

I am absolutely with you on the daily weighing. My process has been less extreme than yours - a daily walk - only 45 minutes to an hour - and the result has been proportionally less but the principle has been the same. With daily weighing and tracking the data you can see the trends very quickly. I can easily relate slight dips in weight to increased physical activity. It's all about habit and routine for me. Balancing calories in and calories out and tracking the progress. I use the more traditional process of graph paper and a pen - tracking weight, walking and cycling on the same chart. Apps are fine too. So are simple spread sheets. There is a saying that "Whatever gets measured gets delivered". You can not track your weight if you do not measure it and plot it out in some way.

I agree with everything you’re saying, but throwing in a cheat meal (one meal, not the entire day) once per week is perfectly fine imo.

Thanks for your videos . Just purchased my first adult MTB . I say adult because I'm 39 now and I've not been on one since my teens . Currently I'm sitting at 94kgs and want to get between 75 to 80 . Looking round UA-cam for that secret plan but I guess all I need to do it just get out there . How are you tracking your rides for Strava .

The diet colas keep you hydrated cause your getting water in and you need a lot of water to build muscle. Also cheat days are not bad if you don’t over eat. But yea 20 diet colas a day is over excessive. Cheat days can also help boost metabolism which will over time help you loose weight if done righ

      Hi Tim
      Im also an OTR trucker.
I lost 50 lbs in one year, biking, power walking, doing pushups against shipper and receivers counters and cement barriers, 40 criss cross toe touches at every piss and picture stop.
My breakfast consisted of two hard boiled eggs and a small can of V8 juice.
Snacks are celery sticks, jerky and apples.
If I eat a hamburger I ditch the bun and ask for a lettuce wrap, replace the fries with coleslaw or nothing at all.
I mix chia seeds with damn near everything.
An additional app to download is Alltrails.
I find the coolest places to bike, or walk near practically every truckstop.
Good luck and enjoy trucking as I feel trucking is actually more weight loss and fitness friendly than any office job.
      Salute!
      P.S.
Always dress for excercise,, hot weather, cold and everything inbetween.
Those synthetic athletic shorts and biking padded shorts are easy to wash in the shower and dry over night.
