Hearing this for the first time on radio as an anishinaabekwe, it blew me away with the tribal sounds. As I never hear these sounds on the radio before. Then I read the lyrics which were just powerful, I love this.

Too bad shes lied about her indigeneity and was caught in a lie, one article saying her father was brown and another saying he was lightskinned. Someone whos last full indigenous ancestor was in the 1700's. She lied about the nations she claimed to be from. Shes still claiming to be from a nation that she has no connection to. Idgaf about blood quantum, but it's straight up trifling to dig that far into your past so you can get 300'000$ worth of grant money to build your career when your family didn't care about connecting to community or culture beforehand.
This performance is incredible. Her voice is mesmerizing, and the instrumentals are so full and complex. So so happy I discovered iskwe today!

For those who are wondering in her indigenous ancestry
She has a authentic MMF CARD
(MANITOBA MÈTIS FEDERATION)
(she shown it in her IG)
Which is a authentic valid indigenous government of the Métis/Michif nation
She is indigenous
Being registered with MMF
Is a hard process because you have to prove your ancestry and linage
It’s also part of the government
Wow.
Thank you Iskwe my sweet friend...

Can someone write the phrase for me. Im hard of hearing and the first word or two are difficult for me to understand

There was something a bit to much about this artist when I saw this video yesterday. What she was saying to the audience didn't feel right. So I looked her up....yup according to what I've seen out there on the internet she's using indigenousness to jump on the bandwagon.
why am i the only one who thinks her voice is grating and her lyrics are nonsensical at best lol
Is she pure native?
She is of Cree/Dene and Irish ancestry. You can learn more here: www.cbc.ca/1.4123871
She is not cree or dene, she has a half ojibwe ancestor from the 1700's
Is that why she has a Métis card on her IG???

Why is this white chick dressed like that? Pretty weird lol
she is also Dene
Woah I just looked up some pics of her and she looks purely white. Like European white. I think her message comes off weird because she doesn't understand the struggle of looking different at all. She blends in. Nobody on the street would look at her and think she's Cree. Kinda weird that she's Cree and looks like that!! But you learn something new every day. Anyway, thanks for the info--have a nice evening.
beefknuckles You're basing this off entirely how she looks? Sounds incredibly discriminatory if you ask me.
"Passing" as white while knowing you're not can be just as difficult for some people. Who are we to judge?
You are literally judging a book by its cover "I think her message comes off weird because she doesn't understand the struggle of looking different at all." What do you know about her struggles?
"Being half-Indigenous and half-Irish with fair skin, freckles, and blue eyes, trip-hop and R&B singer-songwriter Iskwé would often witness racism aimed at her own community and sometimes even family members, while not always directly experiencing it herself." Taken from an article written about her. she even had an experience where a
One such instance occurred when her and her mom were having a conversation with a woman in a park in her hometown of Winnipeg who did not realize she was speaking to two Indigenous women.
“A total stranger at the park, talking to us about dogs, and then all of a sudden the conversation switches to how Native people treat their animals and then it just went on this downward spiral from there, and just became this super-racist conversation and I was just like ‘what is happening?’”
