- Please join me as I take my Ten-Tec Triton IVD on the air.
The key is a Begali Intrepid Bug. Left-hand model. My Antenna is a Cushcraft MA5B compact beam on my roof.
Just in case you are learning CW, I added subtitles so you can follow the code and get familiar with the back-and-forth protocol that we use on the air..

I've had an all-TT station for years as well. I just picked up my third Triton this week. 73 de K8AI
I’ll be hamming till death 🤣 true Cw op
He sure is!
Thank you for sharing this.
Many thank for the CW. Captions....! 73 from Buenos Aires
Ruben, you are welcome. I will keep making QSO videos. I am having fun making the captions. Sometimes I pick-up something that I missed in the QSO! 73, Jim, W6JIM
Very cool, Jim!
Thank you Stan. This is one of my favorite Ten-Tecs. The QSK is so silky smooth, you don't even notice it! A simple 100W Digital read-out rig. What else do you need?
Love Ten-Tec’s CW operation. So smooth. Thanks for sharing this video. I’ve never used the Triton but I own two Omni rigs, and they get plenty of use. 73, Adam N0ZIB
Couldn't agree more! I love my Omni-5. It makes the best sending-tone of any rig I have!
Nice setup. The Ten Tec Argonaut was the first ham rig I ever laid hands on. It was owned by one of my secondary school teachers and I was hooked. Thanks for posting. 73's from VK3.
Thank you Darrin. I am happy that it brought back some good memories. More old Ten-Tecs to come!
Great CW QSO! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! 73, Jim, W6JIM
Nice
Thanks
Respect both....tks fer share the video..73
Appreciated, 73
I enjoy your videos. I just picked up the analog version Model 540. I look forward to getting it on the air. 73 AC5JS
Hey John, I see a 540 to 544 QSO in our future!
@@W6JIM Sounds good to me, Jim! 73 AC5JS
Love the video Jim de W1CPR
Thank you. The Titan IV was my first step into older Ten Tec rigs. Good memories with this one 😃. I think I'll use it for Straight Key Night this year 👍. 73, Jim W6JIM
in 45 years of hamming. I have always wanted a Triton IV. I have had Argonauts over the years. I have a PM-3a, but always wanted a Triton IV. K1QS
WB0WQS, thank you for your comment. You can still find Tritons in great condition or in need of minor repair for $200-$350. I always check the Ten-Tec discussion groups first. Then QRZ, QTH and ebay. I will let you know if I see one.
Had the analog and digital. Great cw...my only mode.
CW Forever 👍
Always heard great things about Ten-Tecs. Could be tempted to try one if I could pry either of my Kenwood hybrids out of my hands! HiHi!! “Never say ‘Never’!” I’m a 20wpm General Class. CW for the win! WB3CFN…dit dit
Time to make room on the bench 👍
Nice video. New to LICW, one day we will QSO!
Rob, Welcome to the Long Island CW Club. Looking forward to that QSO!
You have dashes to the right and dots to the left. My vibroplex is the reverse. Do you have the choice of it with the Begali? Nice radio, nice video 👍👍
Thank you, and good eye. This is a left-hand model that I use with my right hand. The short story is that I learned backwards 😁
@@W6JIM when I started learning I have a single lever and a dual lever, one was set one way and one the other. I never even noticed. I just keyed each one so it worked. Kind of wish I had kept that ability up. But once someone pointed out what I was doing I couldn't do it anymore!!
@@W6JIM Jim your not alone, i was taught CW by an old timer who is now SK, when i got my license i bought a straight ex-RAF WW2 key, then later a iambic keyer and learnt as you did, that was when i was 16, we are both the same age and boy am i in love with your setup, the Begali however is most definately on my wish list......left-hand model of course.
Best 73.
Sweet rig! I've got a Ten-Tec Century 21 and 22. We should do a vintage Ten-Tec split screen QSO video sometime =) 73 de WU7H
Sounds good. I have never worked with a C-22. But my C-21 is lots of fun 🙂
Great video Jim. The subtitles were helpful for me as I am just getting into CW. I couldn't find a few of the abbreviations though. Do you have a good link for a cheat sheet? 73's W4LEC
Thank you Larry. My goal is to help others as they grow into CW. You can find some common abbreviations in my QSO Protocol Video. There is also a link there to the Protocol document. Send me an email anytime and we can chat 👍
Nice QSO Jim. What kind of beam? I’m jealous as I want one but only have a vertical. Hustler 6BTV is really nice but it is not a beam. TNX for sharing your QSO.
Always good to hear from you Capt! It's the smallest beam I could find. I am trying to be neighbor friendly :-) Cushcraft MA5B for 20, 17, 15, 12, 10 meters. The longest element is only 17 ft. I have really enjoyed it. It is sitting on a 4 1/2 ft Glen Martin roof tower on an 8 ft mast. I also use the Hustler 6BTV 6-Band HF Vertical Antenna. I laid out 1450 ft of ground radials and works very well.
FB putting your Triton IV on the air. I would like to get mine back in operation. The PTO is seized up and needs a rebuild. I’ve got a notion to replace the PTO with a DDS module, another project, sigh 😌
QRPLife I understand. My PTO is fine, but I did have to replace my digital display. A few segments were not lighting up. When I get a new "used" Ten-Tec, no matter what the seller says, something always needs fixing! Speaking of QRP, I have an "Index Labs QRP Plus" I need to make a video of soon. 73, Jim, W6JIM
I can’t believe no one has asked it yet…. Where did you get the green LED display? I have two T4Ds and they and everyone I’ve seen, the LED display is RED from the factory. Post a source or reference please. These are beautiful rigs…
You have a good eye! The old display started to lose segments. So, a replacement display was found on ebay. It's all green now. Normally it's all red and green after the decimal.
why the dit and dash is swaped of the original bug key? dose the key is a left hand version?
That "buzz" was FT8.
Thanks for the info. What time-stamp was the FT8 buzz?
How am I going to learn Morse code when I can't even figure out your cw shorthand abbreviations?
Take a look at my CW Protocol Video ua-cam.com/video/82sL6yB6Ric/v-deo.html
I have all the abbreviations there as well as a link to the QSO Protocol document.
For classroom instruction, I recommend the Long Island CW Club. Great community of CW operators learning or improving their code.
What was the swr when you tuned up?
The SWR on my antennas are all between 1.0 and 1.5
Hi Jim lovely Rig, strange because when you first told Gerry he was 5NN I said no way he's a 339 to 539 at best with QSB, and low and behold at the end you give him a true 339 report But I get what you are saying when the Morse is clear and precise it sounds 599 until you look at the S-Mater. hi hi. Anyway great video 72 and ATB hpe CU on air. de G0NMY TU SK . .
Thank you for the comment Mark. I agree! I hope to work you one day :-)
What is roughly the CW speed in your QSO?
@@marcinmerrimack1726 I think its about 14 wpm or so
