Got to see Ricky Carmichael race in his last supercross season at Atlanta. Also got to see him race at the Supercross of Nations at Buds Creek back in 2007. Sadly I think he came down with the flu and wasn't on his best game, but he still dominated, but didn't dominate as much as Ryan Villopoto did. RV stunk it up. Got the holeshot both times in his two motos and won both by over a minute I think, including one of which where he fell down. Oh, and he did it on a 250. He won by over a minute on a 250 even in the mixed moto that had the 250s and 450s. That was magical to watch live.

Amazing segment! My favorite thus far. I ride now with my 11 and 9 year old boys. There is still nothing more freeing than getting on a dirt bike and separating from reality and just enjoying each other and the machine! Love it
I knew Carey Hart as a kid back in Vegas right around the time he almost died during warm ups for a race. Always had a ton of respect for him when he went right back at it and did what he did with his career. Takes big ones to do that.
Chad Reed just retired this year, after 22 years of racing on the professional level. Most of the riders out there are only 17-19, dude was literally the GOAT.
Sucks that his last season was during covid with no fans. This was supposed to be more of a fan service tour like with what Richard Petty did his last year in NASCAR. Speaking of which, it also sucks for Jimmy Johnson in NASCAR who went through the same thing. His retirement tour ended with the majority of races having no fans, and him missing the playoffs.
The downfall of motocross is when they took away the two strokes... has nothing to do with emissions it's about part sales, the manufacturers make more money on four strokes over all. Back in the mid 80s everybody had a brand new bike, the average racer could get two seasons out of one with minimal maintenance. chain sprocket, top end kit, tires, clutch plates.. the more serious racer got a new one every year for the next 8 or 10 years as it went, or could actually afford to have two bikes.. a practice bike and race machine... I remember buying a brand new KX 125 in 1984 for $1,795 glory days are over.......R.I.P Marty Smith
While it's true that the early four strokes we're garbage and might have lead to many people quitting the sport, the current ones are actually (usually) really reliable and relatively inexpensive to maintain. I had a 2013 Kawasaki kx450f for like 4-5 years and rode it up to 120 hours until I did a top end rebuild, (basically the piston, rings, cam chain and gaskets) which cost me about 400-500€. Compare that to changing a piston, rings, bearing and gaskets on a 125cc every 20-30 hours for about 100-150€ and the costs aren't that different anymore. According to this calculator: www.officialdata.org/us/inflation/1984?amount=1795 the inflation adjusted value of 1795$ would be about 4500$, which admittedly is much less than the 8000-9000$ new bikes cost nowadays. But then again the tech, like suspension and EFI have *slightly* improved the way the bikes perform as well. Not to mention the fact that four strokes are stupidly easy to ride fast. A bit slower in tight corners, but coming out they just pull. The biggest thing here in Finland that is making people quit are the insurance prices. When I started riding in 2004, insurance for a motocross bike was about 80-120€/year, but due to some legislative changes where mx bikes can now be handled as their own group instead of pooling them together with all vehicles in the country, the prices have risen to about 1500-6000€ per year.
Agreed... at the introduction of the four-stroke they were really pretty Junkie and unreliable... they have definitely come a long way and has made for some exciting racing at the top level... That still doesn't change the fact that the local turnouts are very small and not nearly as exciting as the 2-stroke day's... on my previous comment, I wasn't saying that the sport was totally dead I guess just different in a lot of ways still pretty alive in so many aspects... I'm personally just glad to see that Yamaha, KTM and some others still make great 2 Strokes... lastly, I'm currently looking into getting a yz450f to convert to Supermoto... Have fun stay safe.
Dude I actually got emotional when I got the notification for this episode. Motorcross has been a huge part of my life, and it always will be. I grew up with my dad racing his quad and being absolutely amazing and winning his first ever race when I was 3 years old. He quit because he wanted to spend time with his family. For his training before he quit, he built a full sized Mx track in our horse pasture, and would go out there and fly. Then he threw me on a Yamaha 50cc dirtbike with training wheels on, and sent me out to rip. Eventually I found I was more stable on quads, which my entire family has ridden since the 1980s, and this year, through the pandemic, at age 17, I prepared to race my first ever Mx race at the local track. Ended up busting the quad and hurting my foot so I wasn’t able to race, but I’m going hard next year looking for that win. I want to thank the entire donut media crew for making this episode of wheelhouse, as it made me feel so nostalgic seeing the clips of freestyle and supercross that I grew up watching.
Bro nobody could get through the whoop sections faster, he came out of nowhere on guys multiple seconds ahead of him because of how good he was in the technical stuff when he was on kawi
I've been racing motocross since I was little and still do and i always like seeing channels with lots of influence bringing more attention to it, I'm not into cars that much but you just made me a subscriber
Glad to see you were able to ride a 2 stroke at the end! I was big into motocross in the 90s as well as a kid. I stopped paying attention in the early 2000s but man does it still bring back some nostalgia.

When Travis did that 720 he broke his pelvis and stood up after that he seperated his si joint on both sides it was the 3rd known case in medical history to not bleed out and die from that
I will absolutely never forget X Games 1999, seeing Travis pull off brand new tricks like the Indian Air (that superman seat grab with the legs scissor-kicked to absolute perfection). And then, after decimating the field and guaranteeing victory after his first run, using his 2nd run to launch his bike and himself into the San Fran Bay. Four-year-old Me had a new sporting hero for life. Travis was probably a lot of the reason for me buying my 2005 RM250 when I was 15 in 2010 (which I still ride to this day, see profile pic lmao). The way that this clean-cut but goofy teenager came in with his bright yellow Factory Suzuki racing 125cc (hell he even ran his 199 national racing number at the 2000 X Games) and crushed a field full of badass dudes on blacked out 250cc’s, in between race weekends, is so insane. Somehow he had the time, talent, and energy to invent all these amazing new freestyle tricks and win competitions in between a 125SX East title and a 125 Outdoor National title. With how specialized both sports are now, it’ll never be seen again. I’m really happy that I got to grow up in the era that had Travis Pastrana in it.

Tbf the 1984 Buick Regal only cost $10k brand new, and the 2020 Buick Regal costs $27k.
@@TeKaMOTO Remember 2 strokes haven't been improved in years, so they'd definitely be better than modern 4 strokes.
Pastrana vs Deegan this weekend at Champ Off Road Pro 2 races! This came just in time!
Hell yeah, donut is back to make my day :)
*motocross is the best sport ever! been riding since i was 3 :)*
Going to the track with my Dad every weekend when I was a little kid are some of my best memories. Ricky Carmichael was my hero. Awesome video Donut.
Man, i remember playing MX vs ATV Untamed
Just played it a week ago . Still just as good best soundtrack any game has ever had
I've been waiting a week and now I'm home and can finally watch wheel house and got chills seeing it was about motocross. You guys are the best!
When James Stewart came into supercross he was from another F planet. The most thrilling rider I've ever seen! The Lewis Hamilton of supercross.
Jon Jon When he wasn’t crashing. He was like an on off switch, full throttle or nothing.
Bro nobody could get through the whoop sections faster, he came out of nowhere on guys multiple seconds ahead of him because of how good he was in the technical stuff when he was on kawi
Bring back all kinds of emotions. Thanks guys.
"Fear and loathing in Los Vegas" a movie about a journalist who was covering a motocross race
I've been racing motocross since I was little and still do and i always like seeing channels with lots of influence bringing more attention to it, I'm not into cars that much but you just made me a subscriber
The “bad boy of the sport”
Pretty sure anyone doing backflips on motorbikes is a bad boy lol
As a dirt bike boy myself, I was big happy to see this episode
Thanks and congrats for 4 Millions
“Crusty dirt demons” had me rolling.
it was a cool movie
Cjstricklen111 I know. The only reason it’s funny is because the movie is actually titled “crusty demons of dirt”
Perfect timing. I was looking at a brochure for the 2021 Honda CRF 450RWE just today
Donut: endorses Raycon
Also Donut: *lets James and Nolan wear airpods while discussing is more expensive mean more better*
I couldn’t ask for anything more out of this video, thank you so much for this! Y’all took me back!
Day 9 of asking James to do an Up to Speed on Post Malone.
And congrats on reaching 4 million, knew you guys would reach it.
Glad to see you were able to ride a 2 stroke at the end! I was big into motocross in the 90s as well as a kid. I stopped paying attention in the early 2000s but man does it still bring back some nostalgia.
day 56 of asking donut to do a b2b on their cars or up to speed or dlist
Stop
@@OneEyeDollar6 Day one of you stopping. PaganiGaming is the only legit request.
@@Jmodderator He should stop too.
@@OneEyeDollar6 Nope, Maybe you should just leave, I'm sure Doug or Scotty has some shit you'd like.
@@birddude3123 I don't know or care about all that. Actually I didn't even read any of it.
But stop.
I’ve been watching a lot of motocross lately and now I see this?!?! Awesome!!
I laughed so hard when he said xtreme to the max we used to say that back then 😅
I just pulled a huge no handed nostalgia from watching this.
This videos coming out literally after my brother's cross bike was stolen xd
Bruh
@Meneer Van dijk Damn. I knew it! I'm gonna call the police xd
For real though, the burglars car was seen so there's at least hope that he gets it back.
@Meneer Van dijk I don't know how you can transport a cross bike, 2 bicycles, 2 lawn mowers and tools with a supra and I'm pretty sure that it was a mercedes sprinter van, but I still knew it was you! I'm calling police rn xd
@Meneer Van dijk Damn
Congratulations‼︎
I always enjoy your videos and
thanks to featuring JDM cars so often...!!

“Crustys dirt demons” 😂😂😂
So AWSOME!!!!!! It brought back so many great memories!!!!
When Travis did that 720 he broke his pelvis and stood up after that he seperated his si joint on both sides it was the 3rd known case in medical history to not bleed out and die from that
That was back in Lake Havasu when he was a kid. U are confusing crashes and injuries.
Formula 1 2020 update:
Race start : And its lights out and away we go
Race end : And its Lewis Hamilton who crosses the line.
Repeat.
Ah well he's too good and Merc is too good, what can we do?
I swear you catz would be the guys I would hang with after school. Car guys that talk, work, play, and cry about cars. You guys are the soul of the car community and have the passion to share with those who don’t understand why the way we are. Thank you for you devotion.
Hey
Congrats ur first
Man it's been far too long since I've watched a Supercross race.
Thanks for this nostalgia trip!! :)
Day 2 of asking James to make an UPTOSPEED on JP Performance.
Deutsch?
One of my fondest memories as a young kid was my dad taking me on his brand new 2001 rm250. Or when he took me on his 2004 raptor 660r.
