Fellow non-American here, and I feel you. Definitely 170 Fahrenheits there, though, which is around 75 degrees Celcius. Whenever I hear an unusually high interior/room temperature number, I’d assume it to be in Fahrenheit. Edit: did the wrong maths, people. Somehow my brain derped out and said 170F when it’s actually 130F, and that’d be 54C. A much less dramatic number, but still very uncomfortable for a car interior AND wearing a complete protective suit. Sorry guys!
Not to be rude or condescending but you should just know and keep in mind anyone American will talk F over C any day and the rest of the world goes C over F.

Ima be honest i thought they meant air bag suspension when i saw “Why don’t race cars have air bags” then i watched the video and saw it was about safety lol.
You should check out the origin of Murphy's law, he was the first guy from the US military to suggest seatbelts in planes. But he also brought up they had more pilots die in car crashes than in the air. He did alot of the first tests on any type of safety restraint. During testing they installed some sensors backwards and didnt get any readings. So they put in place redundancy to make sure mistakes wouldnt happen again. Because anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
the evo crash has a lot of time to roll over (still brutal tho), however nolan didnt show the rest of the clip where that rally car actually fall straight down the 15 storey cliff completely on a tarmac

If i remember correctly, there is a guy still doing stuff similar nowadays. I think he has some kinda thing that makes him extra durable? My knowledge is old (i think i saw it on some 2012ish discover/history channel show) but i seem to recall that there is some level of information you can gain from a human tester (aka, any biometric data at all) that a test dummy just cant give you.
It's still a thing today, they wear kevlar pads all over their body with patches to indicate damage and their main job is to do moves that can't be replicated by a hydraulic machine. (i.e: rolling the car by accidental sliding)
When Volvo invented the three-point seat belt in 1959, they made the patent free for all competitors to use in order to save lives, because “it had more value as a free life-saving tool than something to profit from”.

13:30 jeez man youtube seriously demonetizing every word. So sad.
I really hope/wish that the move to censor that part of the audio was just a cheeky jab at UA-cam's fucked up algorithm but, sadly, I doubt that's the case.
Donut covers automotive engineering, industry, and technology in an engaging, funny, and informative manner and UA-cam's ridiculous automation systems for prioritizing (de)monetization and eligibility of (ad) revenues does nothing to enhance the viewer's experience nor does it really, effectively, exhibit any real noticeable benefit(s) for the company's who supply said ads and revenue streams.
It sucks even more that there is very little we can do aside from complaining and/or becoming direct monetary supporters of these content creators.
You're far too correct in labelling the given situation of circumstances as nothing more than "sad."

I'm not American so it gave me a little heart attack
Fellow non-American here, and I feel you. Definitely 170 Fahrenheits there, though, which is around 75 degrees Celcius. Whenever I hear an unusually high interior/room temperature number, I’d assume it to be in Fahrenheit.
Edit: did the wrong maths, people. Somehow my brain derped out and said 170F when it’s actually 130F, and that’d be 54C. A much less dramatic number, but still very uncomfortable for a car interior AND wearing a complete protective suit. Sorry guys!
Lol shit would be on fire if it was Celcius
75C? That's basically a cold sauna.
Ah yes, boiled feet.
Not to be rude or condescending but you should just know and keep in mind anyone American will talk F over C any day and the rest of the world goes C over F.
3:39 Ott Tanak and his Co Driver: ________
I really wish co drivers got more credit they're just as important as the driver in rally
The co driver's name is Martin Jarveoja
Toby Lockhart exactly!
Ima be honest i thought they meant air bag suspension when i saw “Why don’t race cars have air bags” then i watched the video and saw it was about safety lol.
Makes complete sense. Though I suspected the safety device.
Lmao me too !!
Smh lol
LOL, I guess that makes sense. How would a race car do with an air suspension?
i love how nolan makes an Avenged Sevenfold reference at 11:12
love you Donut
3:48 i thought it was i20
it is my friend, they just made a lil mistake
Came here to say this too.
After Kimi crashed and experiences 47 g’s
Kimi: BWOAH
Anthoine Hubert
........
bwoah, i crashed *goes to yatch with friends and gets drunk*
3:50 should’ve shown the evo clip at pikes peak
the evo crash has a lot of time to roll over (still brutal tho), however nolan didnt show the rest of the clip where that rally car actually fall straight down the 15 storey cliff completely on a tarmac
Aiman Razak that doesn’t sound fun.
Nolan: "you know how many g's we have here on earth, 1 g"
hahaha. You crack me up man.
I came here wondering why race cars don't have airbags. I got so invested in everything else he was talking about that I forgot why I was here.
"That's not even the most brutal I can go" Oh, okay. You just gonna say that and not think we're gonna press you for it? I want to hear at least a single. lol

The first donut media video I ever watched. Two years later this is still my favorite UA-cam channel
ow i feel bad for the peoples that used as “dummy” back then testing 3-point lap belt until the 60’s and 70’s till now
If i remember correctly, there is a guy still doing stuff similar nowadays.
@@mre16 you geeking me out I watched the same thing. They called him the human testing dummy or something like that? Was it on moth busters
@@Shogunslossy i bet they mentioned him at some point! Thats the name though.

in soviet russia, we die like man
13:34 I just ripped to laugh at that bleep
8:10 I see ur a man of culture as well.
When Volvo invented the three-point seat belt in 1959, they made the patent free for all competitors to use in order to save lives, because “it had more value as a free life-saving tool than something to profit from”.
Thank you for making all these videos. I enjoy them a lot and have learned a lot from you guys doing all the research and putting them all together.
