One thing I see beginners mess up a lot is thinking you're jumping off the tail as it hits the ground. They should actually jump just before the tail hits the ground and let it snap against the ground without their weight on it. You jump off the wheels, not the tail. The board literally bounces off the ground and gets evened out by your front foot. It's easy to see in slow motion, you're already 80% done jumping by the time the tail hits the ground.

Exactly this. Nobody talks enough about bringing the back foot up or demonstrating the motion without the board! I was planning to do the same tutorial for this reason but I'll just point people here now 😆
that's so neat, i was taught the same thing as a kid and i always had mad pop, especially since i tended to use the nose more when i just wanted to go up onto something. never really did grinds, but i stalls were always fun for me.

Hey Dan, I’ve been struggling with keeping the board straight as I ollie. I get half decent pop (about a foot or two), but as it comes down it isn’t staying straight and I’ll land with my feet straight but the board is angled. Any tips?
