Marriage is not for everybody. I was 14 yo when I decided never to walk down the aisle and I kept that promise to myself. My life has been peaceful and joyful because of that decision. I fill my life with people and things I enjoy such as friends and lovers, career, travel, pets, creative endeavors, etc.

I am convinced after living a long time that men want someone to manage a home for them so they don't have to and they can go out and do whatever the heck they want to. If I had my life to live over again, I honestly would not get married. I am a woman who never wanted children and I did not have children. I had a 10 year marriage that I enjoyed for the most part, but left because my husband and I were going two completely different directions. I have had a great life. There are plenty of women in the world who are willing to put up with men's BS and who want children. So as far as I am concerned they can carry the torch for motherhood and wifedom. Having a husband is not a goal for me. That is what I have learned.

💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 I don't mind cleaning up as I'm one of those who loves to tidy up. BUT I don't like a sense of entitlement, expectation. I need appreciation, something a lot of men just don't know how to express. I think in all my 51 years of life, I've heard less than half a dozen "thanks" from either my dad or brother. And guess what? They taught me that I don't need a man in my life. No love, no thanks, no nothing. I'm just glad I'm the type that loves to live alone and never wanted kids. I have my fur babies and that is MORE than enough.

Here's a thought. Ignore what society deems normal and what is expected. Listen to your heart and follow that. Marriage and or partnerships are not for everyone. After I gave up trying to find that someone (because it was expected and not what I wanted) I flourished. It's been over 20 years of being single and living alone. They've been the happiest years of my life. Yes this lifestyle is not for everyone. The only real negative I've experienced is people judging me because I'm single and never married. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with me, that I need fixing or that I'm less of a person. You want to get married? I say go for it! You want someone in your life but not in your house. I respect that. You're an introvert and prefer to live alone in peace and quiet. I say well done and good for you. Let people be themselves and quit judging them on relationship status or the number of friends they have.

I never wanted to be married or give birth, which is why I never did either. There truly are women in the world like me that value their independence. Even when I am in a committed relationship, I still have to feel I have some level of freedom.
There really is a difference between WANTING a man, and NEEDING one. Do I want one, especially if it's storming and I need to be held? Yes. But truly I don't need a man. My friends and family finally get it.

Gonna have to say it, but I agree with Sara here. I think goals are subjective. People have different views on what things are accomplishments or goals and that's okay. I think it's great to be able to stand on your own but I also don't think it's a failing to desire companionship or feel the need for that in life. Human beings are social creatures. So, for a lot of people companionship of all kinds is part of the human experience. Nowadays people are so quick to minimize the need or importance of companionship and relationships of all sorts but the stats on loneliness tell a different story. In the end do what works for you but remember it's perfectly normal to desire to connect to other people whether it's through friendship or romance.

Over the years I have come to terms with being single. In my twenties, I wanted companionship and marriage. Also then, I dated a guy during college who wanted marriage and children but he wasn't a good provider so I gave him an ultimatum. I didn't like his frivolous ways with money or his attitude on life. Marriage without children seems like the best way for me. When children are added to the mix, it often becomes oppressive for both parties but especially for the woman. Too many married women are glorified slaves to everyone in their household. I’ve seen it time and time again. The husband does as little as possible concerning child rearing and housework. The woman is exhausted all the time but the husband who does very little wants a porn star performance. The woman also has a job so now he wants her to contribute financially. There’s a lot wrong with this picture. I tell women all the time that if he won’t contribute to all aspects of their lives, they should refuse to share ANY of their money with him. No healthy not disabled man is living off of me. You can’t have it both ways.

Dont be silly. U love him? He wants to marry u? And u dont know if u want to marry him. Do HIM a favor and leave him, but please dont sit there like a sad puppy. Go to therapy and get the help you need so you could be a woman that is worth marrying worth committing to not this indecisive person. Do you think it's fair for you to be in a committed long-term relationship when you know that the ultimate goal for him is to be married but yours is not because you're too scared? Everything is scary life is scary he could leave you he could cheat on you he could die you could die you could fall out of love with him a lot of things could happen but this is life so you're going to stay single and alone and unhappy and fulfill your life with career goals in creative activities and find a baby at a sperm bank and need a modern day woman that dont been a man? Girl. You said it yourself your relationship is not bad, and you want to give it up to be single in the streets where thousands of women pretend to not need a man but I desperately lonely and want a baby and a husband? Comon

There are things about life and living that I instinctively knew, I went with my gut and didn’t let my “little head” do my thinking. After my first marriage fell apart (8 months) I decided to wait until a mature woman had concluded her goals in life. @ age 36, I met such a woman. It’s not the best sex or the best looking. She can’t cook, she can’t keep a home…but she cares about me…and that’s the most important thing. No children. No relatives to worry about. Just us.

During my working career, in government finance I was often questioned - what, no kids? do you like kids? you just need a man! are you gay? Always having been an artist, I remember after my second divorce setting up my easel in my little apartment kitchen and feeling relieved to not hear - what's for dinner? when are you going to put that stuff up? time for sex (even after arguing all evening)? About half of my married friends have good marriages with successful kids. The rest of them, smh I'm glad I never had kids and glad I'm not married. That's you though, the beauty of this world is that we are different, different wants, needs, desires, aspirations, goals. You would have regretted it if you didn't have your kids, but there are many who genuinely don't want it and they are in their golden years, Helen Mirren is a great example, she never changed her mind because she NEVER has no maternal instincts. I could remember my mother saying how crazy is a woman having more than 2 kids intentional because she just couldn't wrap her head around it and her best friend has 9 amazing kids, the least smart and successful is a pharmacist,7 of the kids were valedictorian, still her opinion of many children did not change.

@@olusolaoyadina5187 I agree with you, different strokes for different folks BUT if i had to give a blanket statement- most women want children and some even think they dont but when they have them they realize how wrong they were. What i think is dangerous is not conveying that to other women. Having a career is great and even necessary for some (like me) but not the same as having children. Your career isn't there for you on holidays, special occasions, or your death bed. I don't hear a lot of this sentiment out in the media and some women don't realize how important this is/was/could have been until its too late. Unfortunately we cant have kid at any time, our biological clock does tic and the worst feeling is that of regret specially when its too late.
