Awesome video!!! How much does this weigh? Could I pull it safely with my light duty pick up truck? My little Ford Ranger with a four banger and 5 speed on the floor comes to mind.
Bruce, nice teardrop build. I'm near the end of building me one. I'm having trouble finding a place to order trim! Any way you could help me out! thanks!!!
I see, as I read below, that you sold it as it was a little too narrow for you. Did you end up building a second, wider one? If so, did you, or do you plan to, use the kuffel creek plans and just upscale the dimensions? If not, what plans did you, or are you planning on using? I am doing lots of research to find plans for a 5X8 or 5X9. Thanks!
I like how you used the L-brackets inside the galley door, good way to hide any screw holes, I think I will try that on our next build. New video promo - The Tear Drop Trailer / Ice Hut
Nice job Bruce,I am almost finished building my teardrop.I have the same H/F trailer as you and also the same wheel jack for the front. The problem I have is there is not enough clearance to swing the jack as the wheel on it hits the ground before its all the way in the vertical position.Any suggestions haw you got your jack to have enough clearance.
thx for posting your vid. i've thought about building one like that and after watching how you built yours i'm completely sure i would rather buy a t@b trailer and just spend the $8k. yours is awesome but it would take me 2 months to build that and i'd spend at least $5k doing it. but wow man....you did a really nice job.
gday,,sorry it may have been talked about already,,but was just curious as to what width you made the camper,,here a standard sheet of ply is 2400x1200 (8x4ft).. but all the vids i look at the trailers seem wider than that,,,great vid and great job on your camper,,credit to you.
Great video, and nice rig. It looks sturdy and functional. I'm considering building my own teardrop camping trailer, but I need to keep the weight down to say 600-800 lbs. empty, so I can easily pull it with a Ford Focus. How much does your trailer weigh? What do you pull it with?
@bdosborn You spent, what, with the solar panels, about $5k? $8k? Add some time in, and if you were paid by the hour, forget about it. But if you want something elegant like this, and knowing you built it yourself, it's worth it. However, I'm looking at something easy to start from, like bare-bare-bones model. Like if MacGuyver built something and only had a few hours. I've got plenty of equipment to start with, including a pop-up trailer that has been stripped, LED tails, marine battery, etc.
Wonderful work, great details all around, good job documenting it as well. The only thing I can't see is how you could bring yourselves to sell it? If I made something like that it would be in the family till I die. I like that you did not use plans. I think (if one is a good craftsman) plans are vastly overrated. People need to trust their creative instincts.
Where did you get your plans for this? I am getting ready to build one and yours is just what I want. I love the dove tail quality on the drawers. It really goes to the detail that a lot of folks would overlook...
Great music choice in addition to the cool build. If you're going to build something you really need to build it right without taking short cuts on safety to limit cost.
Well, its only 4' wide and its too narrow for my wife and I. I would strongly recommend a 5' wide model if you're interested in getting one. I've built another trailer, I'll post another build video sometime.
I took everything we leaned from camping in the teardrop and designed/built another trailer from the frame up. There's not that much difference between a 5X8 and a 5X9, just make sure you go 5' wide. Our replacement trailer is called the Boxcar and there's a build video of it.
typically, a police officer would come out and look at it and write it up as a homemade trailer. just have a bill of sale of some sort. again this is what I went through without a hitch and I'm building mine now. hope that helps
WOW I am impressed with your craftsmanship. I have seen many teardrops, and yours is built to very high standards. The whole while watching your video I started off with the impression that it was an over build.. yes, but the overall product was VERY well worth the watch. Thanks for posting this.
I used 3/4" aluminum angle from the home center that I annealed and bent around the curve. Pain in the rear to do given that they sell trim for RVs that can be easily bent. Bruce
great gob!!thanks for the good ideas.i'm going to make one for this summer, hopefully.the plywood that i can get here is 122cm x 244.what size is this one?
Awesome build, did you have building plans? If so where did you purchase them? Is the trailer from Harbor Freight? How the teardrop holding up? How much did it cost total? Best Regards, George Cardona
I love this! Inside and out! I'm wanting to make one of my own, starting with an old trailer frame I can get for nothing. My question is, how do you get a license plate for one of these things? There is no serial number or anything, so, how does it work?
Your videos inspired me to build my own teardrop. It's an extremely simple version, but I'm having lots of fun with it! You also inspired me to make a video similar to yours.
Beautiful work. im working on a design very similar with the addition of a generator and ac unit. and a camp water heater. and have a small water res in the bottom so fresh water can be carried. I hope to have mine done by winter. you have also given me some great ideas to integrate into my design. again, awesome work.
I used contact cement from Home Depot. Just make sure you roll the siding when you apply it. Instructions call for 50 psi so you really need to get your weight on the roller.
The best job I've ever seen... It's wonderful.
Awesome video!!! How much does this weigh? Could I pull it safely with my light duty pick up truck? My little Ford Ranger with a four banger and 5 speed on the floor comes to mind.
Nice work! good detale.
Make sure and take a lot pictures during your build so we can all see your progress!
dude a million dollar ride u have
I'm not sure which hinge your referring to. The hinge for the hatch is a hurricane hinge, the slides for the drawers are from Home Depot.
Bruce, nice teardrop build. I'm near the end of building me one. I'm having trouble finding a place to order trim! Any way you could help me out! thanks!!!

te mereces un felicitado por toda la dedicacion en compartir tu hermoso video - te deseo los mejores exitos ... saludos desde argentina .-
Very nice, there is also a nice teardrop over at GoDownsize
Can you share the link to your new trailer? I would like to check it out!
The trailer is a 4'X8'. That was a bit too narrow for us so we sold it and built another trailer.
INCREDIBLE craftsmanship! I'm doing some precursory research for a build I'm planning to start soon. Your teardrop is nothing short of amazing!
I like how you used the L-brackets inside the galley door, good way to hide any screw holes, I think I will try that on our next build.

I got my plans from Kevin Hauser . Google Kuffel Creek Teardrop . Of course I changed everything but the plans are a great starting point.
sorry my englis! am going to do a trailer very soon, is a military trailer for my land rover!
Depends on how nice you build it. You could build a bare bones model for $1,000.
music = "Little Sunflower" "Take Five" nice
thx for posting your vid. i've thought about building one like that and after watching how you built yours i'm completely sure i would rather buy a t@b trailer and just spend the $8k. yours is awesome but it would take me 2 months to build that and i'd spend at least $5k doing it. but wow man....you did a really nice job.
Very well done. You are a skilled craftsman.
4x8 trailer from Harbor Freight Tools.
Great work! How much does this weigh fully loaded?
Dan Cole
Around 2700#
+bdosborn capacity on that trailer is 1720 lbs. are you concerned?
+snakeclaw Wrong trailer, 2700# is the weight of the second trailer I built. I never had the teardrop weighed.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I live in Sydney, Australia.
I would love to be shown in a step by step workshop on making my own small camper trailer!!!
It took me a year to build it. You could probably build one for $1500 if you're careful and good at scrounging materials. Go to tntt.com for more info
I worked from the Kuffle Creek plans.
I got most of the parts from eBay and HD.
I can pull it as fast as I want but I have a pretty big truck.
Bruce

Awesome! I want to build the exact same thing but what did you use for the outside of the trailer? Filon?
Do a Google search on "Teardrops & Tiny Travel Trailers". There are free plans posted there.
Bruce
Great music choice in addition to the cool build. If you're going to build something you really need to build it right without taking short cuts on safety to limit cost.
I have the same Harbor Freight trailer that I am going to attempt a similar build this summer.
Well, its only 4' wide and its too narrow for my wife and I. I would strongly recommend a 5' wide model if you're interested in getting one. I've built another trailer, I'll post another build video sometime.
it took 9 months to get to 90% done (and roadworthy). The last 10% took another year.
I took everything we leaned from camping in the teardrop and designed/built another trailer from the frame up. There's not that much difference between a 5X8 and a 5X9, just make sure you go 5' wide. Our replacement trailer is called the Boxcar and there's a build video of it.
I used the Kuffle Creek "Cubby" plans and the siding is called Filon...
Very nice. I plan on doing starting my camper in the next week. I hope it turns out half as nice as yours.
Google "Teardrops and Tiny Travel Trailers". All your questions will be answered in the forum...

Great video Bruce! I think this will give a lot of people the needed enthusiasm to build their own and get rolling.
Teardrops weigh anywhere from 900# and up, depending on how they're built. Your pickup shouldn't have any problems pulling one.
I didn't really notice any kind of odor, there certainly isn't one now.
Bruce
how about licence plate & stuff like that ? roadworthy & stuff ?
You can't post links on youtube but you should be able to find it by searching youtube for this: wSuLYxQOfl4
Thanks. I got the trailer from Harbor Freight tools. Its the 1800# model.
It took around 10 months to get it to a level we could use, then another 6 months of finish work.
Depends on the county where you live, Call your DMV ask them what you need to do to license a home built trailer.
I plan to build a small travel trailer one day and your excellent video gave me some great ideas. Love the roof mounted solar cells.
excellant choice of music.and i will refer back to your video for sure.good job
You did a great job building this trailer... Awesome....
Not a kit, built from plans. Google Kuffle Creek for plans
I used 3/4" aluminum angle from the home center that I annealed and bent around the curve. Pain in the rear to do given that they sell trim for RVs that can be easily bent.
Bruce

I really like it, how long did it take to build? how much in material costs?jason
Awesome man, i like your tiny trailer better since you made it with no plans. You could do this for a living!
Very nice job on your trailer, it looks great !
Take care,
Bluefin
That's the hatch. I clamped it to the bench while the glue dried on the skin.
Not yet, but my wife says two trailers is one to many.
make sure to post some pictures and good luck with your build!
@connberkshire - depends on where you live. Not bad here....
Great job, I want to build one myself! one question though- how much of a hassle is it to get one of these titled & licensed?
I love this! Inside and out! I'm wanting to make one of my own, starting with an old trailer frame I can get for nothing. My question is, how do you get a license plate for one of these things? There is no serial number or anything, so, how does it work?
Interesting version of "Take Five" at 5:25 - where did you hear that?
(PS. Sorry if question has been asked before - I just found your vid.)
Your videos inspired me to build my own teardrop. It's an extremely simple version, but I'm having lots of fun with it! You also inspired me to make a video similar to yours.
We needed a bigger trailer too. Check out "How I built our Tiny Travel Trailer"
Wow, really nice! I sure have a lot of questions though... :-)
Nice Job!
RJUnleashed@youtube
great job buddy, i got some videos of my towable backhoe im building right now.
I wish i knew how to work with wood. Would love to be able to build something like this
nice trailer . what is the piece of music called ? kinda got a steely dan sound to it .
hi i have the utility trailer and u just inspired me to build mine, a big thanks.great job..
-HF Trailer.
- Sold it in 2009 but still holding up according to the new owner
- Didn't track costs
that is sweet , good job not only on the trailer but on youre video too !
I don't know, I didn't keep track. I didn't want to know how much I was spending ;-)
Beautiful work. im working on a design very similar with the addition of a generator and ac unit. and a camp water heater. and have a small water res in the bottom so fresh water can be carried. Workmanship to be proud of ! Fantastic job.
nice job, ramp up and build a few for sale.
about how much would you say this weighed?
Yeah, lol, that's what I thought too, a couple of months tops...
Nice Job!! I would love to build one just like it. Do you have plans for it or was it something you did as you went?
I used the Kuffle Creek plans.
Beautiful Job! Outstanding! Thanks for sharing!
I didn't keep track but I'm guessing between $4-$5K.
hi, can u tell the chassis reference and where you purchase?
Nice job, do you still have that old Virago.
NICE indeed...............
Wonderful trailer! I am going to build one close to the quality of yours. Great work! Did you design it camper yourself?
+Biff Yeager No, I used the Kuffle Creek plans.
is this a kit, where do you buy them?
can teardrops have aircons in them?
Well done! Very informative, thank you.
what did you use for siding and how did you attach it (contact cement?) I'm building one now and could use a tip. thanks in advance
I used contact cement from Home Depot. Just make sure you roll the siding when you apply it. Instructions call for 50 psi so you really need to get your weight on the roller.
One of the best I have seen!!!. You have a lot of good idea's.
Good luck and post some pics....
1500# with all our stuff inside.
Fantastic. Kudos to you, sir.
Wow! This is totally amazing. You are very talented. I would love to build one of these!
