Hi again! thanks for making more animar content! As a longtime Animar player/discord mod/Database Deck holder, I can say your criticisms are spot on! I was having these exact issues over the last year or so as the format sped up a lot. The good news is, we've completely overhauled the community consensus deck list and it fixes a LOT of this. It's been working great in fast paced tier one cEDH metas. Please reach out and we can chat about how to update the list you've been playing on stream. I Know you'll love the results!
@@cedhtv Great! Im a mod in the main Animar one that's linked through the cEDH database (same name and profile pic). Not sure I can share links here, but I'll pass along my Discord info so we can plan everything out in DM or on there. Looking forward to chatting!
Honestly a good video, but it really hurts seeing years-old tech on Animar! There's been significant changes to the core community list that really solves a lot of the problems listed in this video. I almost cried when I saw bond beetle and myr scrappling as we just don't play those cards anymore.
But Animar could be a combo voltron cedh with infinite +1+1 counters using Ashaya + Quirion Ranger combo. Even having some additional strategies equipping him with things like Trailblazer's Boots or any unblockable ability. Possible one of few decks with the capacity to include huge draw engines like all blue draw cards plus green creature draw cards like: "keen sense", "sixth sense", "Curiosity", "beast whisperer", "toski bearer of secrets" and "ohrang frostfang". All of that with the mana ramp of green and red cards. Animar also goes well with stax creatures like "nullstone gargoyle". It could be a midrange cedh without draw engine in command zone but has a good potential definitely
Yeah that's what I have thought about Animar People have focused too much on assembling the bounce combo and forgot what is core value of Animar trying to give us. Cast BIG creatures! BIG stax pieces, Eldrazis, BIG card draw creatures! We can win without combo. and it is really fast too. When you include more and more weird overextended tutors and combo pieces into Animar decks, they also make the deck progress slower. (Since you built it to progress in the another ways.)
The problem with overrunning without white is it requires others to fix your problem for you. Winota works because it's difficult to snap within against it with a combo once it's has a bunch of bears on the board.
Id take a look at this deck. I wouldn't say there are really ways to make it struggle less but there are ways to make the deck more efficient. This is pretty much the strongest Animar build I've ever seen. It wins pretty consistently, unfortunately it's just the nature of the beast that it can't beat faster decks. Diluting the Strat to try to add in answers for decks that are faster really makes it hard to stay consistent, so this deck aims to just outpower tables that straggle or who are focused on each other. If you get an untap with 2 counters on Animar you can win almost any hand. Granted it just dies to Blue and Red Removal it still is very strong. Ive won a few tournaments with it here in Vegas.
I keep telling people, any day now, a cards gonna be printed that'll make morophon busted. I hope that can be a viable commander someday. Similar game plan to animar but different.
It struggles because: - there are a lot of stupidly fast stuff like consulthassa (and you cant compete with them in terms of speed) - you need to pay 3 mana of different colors to do nothing AND play some other stuff after that just to start doing things - you need one set of cards when Animar is in command zone and other set of cards when it on the field Sadly, today individual card quality > card synergy.
Competitive elder dragon highlander. In other words just competitive EDH. Like tournament EDH. EDH has such a big casual stamp on it we needed to have a c infront of the EDH to clarifi what we talk about.
You saying that Wizards should print more cards which could support Animar, but we already had some. Like, you know... Prophet of Kruphix. What Wizards should really do is to take away the banlist from the hands of old man who thinks that cEDH should not exist (and wants to play preDH anyway, so idk whats the deal...) P.S. I played Oblivion Sower. It doesnt do much. P.P.S. No, Seedborn Muse is not a replacement for the Prophet.
I don't think Oblivion sower will do much either. But I don't see a way to go forward with this commander ATM. Like we would maybe need more colorless creatures like sower to dig forward. Or lets say more wandering archaic looking creatures. Load stone golem could be great for Animar ETC.
Hard disagree on this one. Yes Kruphix would be great for Animar, but even if the banlist was aimed at CEDH, Kruphix offers far too much turn economy for it be legal in a tournament setting. Taking so many additional game actions and casting spells during each opponent's turn would likely waste too much time.
@@ponderousplum7970 Animar is not a Narset, he just needs one or two extra untaps to win. The problem with Phophet: if it be unbanned, it will boost some other decks more than Animar.
Animar struggles in cedh because my rograhk thrasios deck makes it look very slow. And I’m not a polymorph strat. I’m stax combo control. Both styles of rograhk and thrasios cedh I know of are far superior to the best cedh animar build. In 3 colors + when a different commander or set of commanders far exceed the potential of your old commander, that means your old commander is too slow these days. If my rograhk thrasios stax combo control build is too fast for tuned animar, it means almost everything is, because I’m a midrange monster that sets good pieces early. I can have t1-3 wins though. But those aren’t primary plans. Those just happen when they happen.
@@cedhtv not really tbh. Winter orb and static orb are true homies in the deck, easily tutorable, and URG provides the best colors to tap the orbs at instant speed. Lifeforce and painters servant are pretty rad too. I just play a ton of combo potential, ton of ramp, ton of synergy. And a couple sprinkles of stax.

@@JMCraigis the deck list on the DB the latest general update?
One thing I've noticed that helps a lot is swapping in Blue Farm for your Animar deck.
Cool video! I would love to chat with you on the current version of the deck that JMCraig, the community, and I have worked on over the past year!
I wouldn't mind a chat like that too. Are you playing animar yourself with their list?
Just want to thank you for the quality of your videos, this channel is amazing!
Oh big thank you.

Tehe circling back to this video after Animer won SCG Baltimore😁
mons is slowly turning into a casual player xD
Haha no don't worry. I just have to comment one some of the casual decks too sometimes.
Can you do a similar video for Brago, King Eternal?
Ofc. Don't know when tho.

Spot one more or less.
How about playing Kinnan in the 99?
Animar is fantastic in casual though.
Yes he really is.
someone explain what is CEDH??

you do realize animar is in the top 10 of cedh decks still right?
Where do you get that information from?
Nice video!!!
Thanks.

Animar voltron 🤣
Just make a better Animar deck if you aim to use it competitively.
