The reason everyone loves this series and the movie is because it's "beautiful"; the scenery, the music, the costumes, the people are all beautiful.
And elegant.
Julian Fellows has a brilliant talent for writing ensemble pieces. His characters are three dimensional and interesting.
@@sheilaghbrosky Ensemble pieces are my favorite. Get too bored with other stories. I'll look up other work by him. Thanks.
Saw the movie the other night. Maggie Smith is a gem. Nobody can do one liners as good as she. Totally enjoyed the movie.
Fabulous movie wasn't disappointed at all. I believe I will go back see it again. Love, love, loved it.❣
Oh so glad to hear this! I can’t wait! 😍💕
This movie Demands to be Binged Watched. #FortheLoveofDownton
That shot of Edith driving up to her castle in her Bentley was everything!
Bravo

I think for me it always been the cast. The casting for the show is so spot on. That may be why fans treat the cast like the characters they play.
The movie was really good. Better than expected.
I so agree. The original cast was perfect but each time they brought in a new character I thought how perfectly cast they were. Good script, good acting but really great casting as well.
Oh, the music , can never forget
We owe Julian Fellowes a great deal.🌺. Jacks grandma in Texas
They need to reboot this amazing show ASAP!
They are doing an american version called Gilded Age
The combination of a great story, great characters, great actors, wonderful place, wonderful scenery....Downton Abbey. Success!
We are all indeed fortunate the TV series & now the "1st" movie exists!! Hollywood needs to learn depth & high quality from this as it would be rubbish if originated there!
Just brilliant and one hopes more is indeed pending for us world wide to experience! Cheers!!
The best show ever
make more films like this and people will go and see it, enough with the boring oscar bait and kiddie films
It was a fantastic movie!!! People love to go to the movies and see no phones! No tech crap!
This movie was wonderful! I hope they revisit Downtown now and then.
Loved the lines of Maggie Smith
I loved the movie and left wanting even more!!!
Love this show. Have no idea why it's nothing like anything I watch or have ever watched:-)
Oh also last tango in Halifax and foyle's war
Love the series and the movie. I do wish it would continue to be a series!
Fantastic movie! I loved every moment 💖💖
I’m a big fan of the movie Gosford Park which Julian Fellows wrote ( won the Oscar for original screenplay) and was directed by the great director Robert Altman. GP had a huge all star English and others cast. Downton was modeled after that movie.
Thanks for adding the close captioning!
HMMMMM !!!QUINTESSENTIALLY BRITISH INDEED !!SEEN THE MOVIE AND NOT DISSAPOINTING !!!!LOVED IT !!!SUPER !!GREAT STUFF !!!FROM (U.K.)
I think what is appealing about Downton is the absence of fowl language, violence and guns. It's good clean show that we have been craving for a long time.
Someone didn't see the movie
There was certainly plenty of porcine language, but defo no fowl language 😉 the series & films both had their scandalous scenes, violence, & the occasional guns. I agree there wasn't really any gratuitous violence or gore though.
Enjoyed the film, and enjoyed re-watching the last season in preparation (no need to really, just wanted to ☺️)
i just finished the series. so sad that it only had 6seasons. i want moreeee. cant wait for second movie next yr
How did y’all not mention that Maggie and Imelda went toe-to-toe with each other before, as McGonagall and Umbridge in Harry Potter?
Oh yeah hahaha
Forgot about that!
I cant wait to go and see this movie
OMG i'm watching it now and I want more!!!! Love it!!
For those not in the know, Violet Crawley is the most powerful hero in the Marvel Comic Universe.
Loved them all! And always will!
Bravo Bravo 👏 😉
Enjoyed last evening @ Spectrum 8 !!!!
i have seen it twice now
SPLENDID ! 💐❤️💐
It's a good story well told . . . . and well acted out. We're not nostalgic for that time period with all its turmoil and inequalities! The "good old days" weren't so good for an awful LOT of people. It is nice to see how the "upper classes" lived and see that they had struggles as well, some the same as everybody else, but some far different. Certainly, there were some aspects of the time period which we may long for their return (how well dressed everyone was, for example), but there are other aspects that we're all glad are no longer a part of our culture (the social and economic inequalities, for example).
Fancy, Great Points and Observations. I enjoyed the film too.
Kenneth Russell Thank you. I enjoyed the film, too, yesterday, and was ready to see it again immediately thereafter. 🤣😂😂😇
@Angel Saturn You really see no difference in how far women have come; how far minorities, particularly Blacks have come; even how far gays have come. The "entail" may still exist today, but it is far less likely that Mary would have had to go through the ritual of marrying a distant male cousin just to keep the family estate within the immediate family as she did back then. While it's true that there is still social and economic injustice, we should not discount the strives that have been made - relatively speaking, in a short amount of time.
Definitely looking forward to seeing this one
It was great! Just posh 😉
Have not watched or been inclined to watch any of the series. One of these days on maybe a rainy cold day I might give it a try.
I felt exactly the same. Then 2 months ago I watched the first episode and was hooked. Best show ever
Wish the Hollywood folk's would learn.something about quality!!something.that Hollywood lost long ago...😲😵👿😡💩🤑
Too true
Julia Branca yes, its all the same with Hollywood and they keep rehashing the same storyline and nonsense over and over.
@@janedoe5829 well there will be a boom in period pieces now because of the popularity of this!
Jesse Leeward that would be nice.
Amen
Great series
Look forward to seeing the movie
I will probably see it sometime this week. Maybe a matinee.
It is nice to see Jane on the air again.
M G: Yes, very. Part of that world of inequality we are still dealing with. She got a little age on her and she was off the air. Male anchors get a little age on them and they get promoted or at least kept on. (That's just one aspect of the discrimination women in media have had to face.)
Lady Mary could be the next queen. Amazing poise.
Technically she couldn't.
Nice to see a movie that is for grown ups.
I saw the movie yesterday. I have to say it was ok...loved the series much more however.
I felt the same way.
Same
I had high expectations and was a tad let down, some actors seemed rushed in their delivery than in the show.
Pat Currie I think most fans of Downton will be pleased just to see a continuation of the series but I felt there was something lacking. I give the movie a 7 1/2-8.
I thought they will make new seasons
Gotta get a copy of the movie when it is available .......... and the price comes down. I have the six PBS seasons, so must have the movie to go with them. Gonna is Maggie. Good setup for the next movie
*six ITV series
We all down deep want to be royal, live royally and have what they had. That's what makes it popular
HMMMM !!A COUCH POTATOE & BINGER ------- WATCHING THE RE-RUN SERIES !!!DID SEE SERIES NIMBER -- 6 !GOT HOOKED VIA THE TELEVSION SERIES !!!!FROM (U.K.).
lightning in a bucket and selling it
I named my daughter Sybil, she will strong and brave like Lady sybil!
Yes, because modern kids are so sweet and sensitive about archaic names. Set aside enough money for a lifetime of psychiatric therapy.
My niece is called Sybille after Sybil Branson lol
@@thisismagacountry1318 really?

@@happilybyheidi4895 Hey, I'm just the messenger. Had you bothered to learn the science of names and how they apply to modern success you'd be thanking me.

"Downton Abbey"
can we do this for game of thrones please.
CBS needs to update the set "This Morning."
I watched the movie yesterday. It was okay, but not great
Very much better than okay. I had high expectations and was a tad let down, some actors seemed rushed in there delivery than in the show. Tomas's storyline was done tasteful and sincere. Mary was a tad to 'woe is me' for her normal character. Other than that it was delightful and I'm going again.
It was good but I couldn't figure out (spoiler) why the assassination attempt wasn't more central to the plot. And why the staff changing was given more significance. People's priorities seemed completely upside downton.
@@jesseleeward2359 Tom and Thomas's storylines were sub plots.
Very disappointing
Showed nothing regarding the characters new lives or Thomas as DA new butler.
Nothing showing the kids in any 'older' way which totally disintegrates Cora's comment, in series, of just wants to watch her children and grandchildren now. The movie, however, did have several lines and scenes that gave the impression that a sequel will be coming: Edith tells she is pregnant, Tom is interested in a lady that turns out to be the heir to DA and Daisy and Andy seemed to realized they love each other. But I say, forget the movies and put the series back on TV. Some soap operas have been on for 30 years; not great. Why not keep something on the tele that so many people, world wide, love and look forward to.
Denise Your insults mean nothing to me they only prove what I discern about u
technically it was beautiful but the story was lame. disappointing.
Denise Shaw Stay home and be miserable Misery loves company
