Robert doesn't usually make the greatest decisions but he mannaged this one pretty well!
*managed*
@@l.a.3479 That was obviously just a typo, let it go, don't be obnoxious.
"We may have our problems, the both of us, but we'll get through them."
Anna and Lady Mary prove that bonds of friendship are thicker than blood and water.
Robert accepting Edith & Marigold and Mary’s tryst with Tony, with warm love and forgiveness rather than hostility and defiance, really shows how far he’s come.
Cora: "Did you give her any money?"
Robert: "Some... It was quite a good cause."
£1,000 = £40,000 in 2021. So basically she wanted a years' salary.
Well 40.000 a year is generous, still a lot of money even in those days and for the upper class
I suppose that's why they assumed she'd be back for more - probably once a year.
£1,000 was an absolute fortune. A chambermaid would have probably been making about £10 a year. Maybe £20 if the hotel was a generous employer.
So Lady Mary is not the only one who's grown up here! Robert's defense of his daughter, acknowledgement of her bravery and gentleness in what he tells Lady Grantham is not the stout, stuffy Lord he was in Season 1! This is why this show is so popular! Fellowes bothers to show that all of the characters grow as they move through time. We may be looking at the end of 'the Regal Age' but we can see why it was called that.
Well, Robert proved that he was the Dowager's son in this moment of crisis🤣
Mary: Was her name Bevin? Carson: I knew she was trouble. 😂Gets me every time!
Thanks for providing this longer clip that includes the dénoument with Lord Grantham. I don't find the shorter clips with just the blackmailer that interesting. I love the ending scene between Robert and Mary. I also love her dress in that scene.
That dress is 1 of my favorites on her.
I always loved it when Anna perp-walks her out of Downton, though sadly it's not shown here. XD
Mary is not even bothered anymore, she has been in sticky situations so many times now 😄🤣
Yeah.. the "Samantha Jones" of the Edwardian Age.. lol
After Turkish Ambassador, Kamal Pamuk, what else is there that could phase her? Check it Out! Ciao!!!
Mary: Do you know how many minor characters I've killed? That's right, I killed Mr Pamuk, I killed Lavinia, I killed Mr Green: you want to be number 4?
@@georgeprchal3924 Lady Mary "Gangsta" Crawley! lol
Yes, she's been in sticky situations, but it upsets me that she always looks down her nose at any situation Edith gets into.
Actually, Lady Mary is worried, she just doesn’t show it in front of the blackmailing maid Bevin; but you can see the worry in her face after she has turned away. Had she shown fear or emotion, Bevin would have known she had gotten her hooks in Lady Mary.
Forever... a Top Notch production.
Robert finally coming to the realization that Mary is indeed fully capable of running Downton
"Can you send Annar up" Hilarious. Anna with an r which is every pirates favorite letter.
"I wasn't going to be blackmailed, I know that. So I suppose I'd have let her publish and be damned."
"Rather tough on Tony and Mabel."
Yeah, because of course she forgot she wasn't alone in that affaire. Looks like she still had some tricks to learn from Papa...
Mary has always been selfish.
Papa had his own affair and bad business decisions. How would it look if he chided Mary for bad choices? He did that to Edith, though.
It was Tony idea first ! Yes Mary was agree to send that week with him but she is not the only person to blame.
"Can you send Annar up" Hilarious.
Intrusive "r". Anna'r'up. Typical to posh/upper class accent. Even Lady Mary had said "the idea'r'of"
The Dowager Countess had also said to Isobel - "You've surrounded this house with a miasma'r'of scandal and touched all of us by association"
“I will be BAHHCKK”… Frightening 😅
The intrusive "h" sounds like Arabic accent
Mary in her riding things is always a STUNNING sight omg especially when she switched to riding astride. Put Mary in trousers more often
Lady Mary: *Dates and rejects various moneyed, well-bred, suitable bachelors*
Lord Grantham: I'm more than interested to know who does come up to your exacting standards.
Henry Talbot, essentially a used car salesman and speed junkie: Allow me to introduce myself.
This is really so obvious in this show. Anyone who questions or challenges the aristocracy and its glory is painted as plain villain or just really annoying, and lines like 'working class coming up' are made sound like some villainous catastrophy coming to the society. Except Barrow, though he had to really miss the masters and be really grateful towards the aristocracy at the end.
she blackmailed her..... what Mary's doing isn't even exclusive to Aristocrat 🙄🙄🙄 it would been the same if she did this to rich people...
it was the normal people who tried to paint Aristocrat as villain when the reality they were crumbling ruin...
you just aren't very bright, Mary accepted Tom Branson who was a working class for his value and kindness
Mary needed Tony Soprano for this one.
Jaja mary le pregunta a anna que haria? Por empezar anna no estaria teniendo amorio y acostarse con un tipo sin estar casada. Mary tenia el titulo de nobleza pero anna tenia el corazon
Do all the catalogs, please!!!!
I do not know you!
I will make you learn me.😂
Fifty quid was a huge sum of money in 1925, worth about 2500 pounds sterling.
Fab video again!
Wow. Mary’s thumbnail pic looks HIDEOUS.
How the cotton picking heck did she fall off I mean it wasn't even after a jump she just basically dropped out of the saddle
It is quite a non sense, how they can sleep with anyone anywhere at that time and don't want any scandals.
Why did the writer recycle the ‘Mary gets blackmailed’ storyline after the whole Pamuk situation? Been there, done that. If anything this was worse because first Mary _should_ have know better after Pamuk, Anna also warned her not to do it, Tony was also originally engaged to another woman and Mary selfishly didn’t think once what the scandal would do to Tony and Mabel, (that look at 7:25 proves that).
I already didn’t like Mary as I found her way too stuck up, snobby and selfish but this just made my view of her even worse!
Another KAREN has spoken... Good grief
What she and Lord Debingham did was scandalous at that time. If they could have managed it as guests at a house party, there would have been no all eyes maid with blabby lips and a larcenous heart. Staff in an estate house knew how to mind their own business; their jobs depended on it.
Well, the reasons Mary herself gave for her little holiday with Gillingham were valid ones, imo. After having been married very happily before, she wanted to make sure, Gillingham and her were actually well suited for another. She didn't want to get married, just to be stuck with the wrong partner for life. Not after having experienced 'true love'. And she ended up not marrying him, after all - even though he was the perfect candidate 'on paper'. So she did the right thing, don't you think? Because if she hadn't...
It's true though...since other people would have been affected...she should have consulted them. Typical proud, stubborn Mary 🤷🏻♀️
But hey... personally I loved that about Downtown Abbey. They didn't make the characters black and white. Aside from Sybil and Anna maybe, they all had flaws und unlikable features, as well as things, we loved about them. That's how you write a good story.
I have to agree with your assessment. I have always hated Mary's superior attitude and her selfishness.
@@raraavis7782 Roflmao. Consulted? Consulted who? “‘Scuse me there Mabel, I’ve decided to shag your former fiancee for a week. You don’t mind do you? Course you don’t.” :-)
The maid’s Yorkshire accent.
The maid is from Liverpool so I think it's supposed to be a Scouse accent.
Daisy has the Yorkshire accent. This chambermaid has Scouse accent (from Liverpool)
@@Mokkari77she sounds Irish
💙 🙂
Honestly, Mary is my worst character in the entire show. I just hate to see her on screen. Yet Michelle Dockery is one of my favorite British performers. I just absolutely hate Mary and her part in life
Not the best storyline, honestly.
Thanks KAREN.
@@billhosko7723 Why -?
It’s never meant to be.
She’s right though. Mary is trash. I hated her so much during the entire series. She has no morals and she was just completely awful to her sister. She deserved much less than what she got.
Yeah I find it sad she’s like that . Especially as Matthew was quite shocked when he found out about Pamuk and then once he’s dead she literally goes and does the same thing with 10 other people.
I can’t stand Mary
Honestly, blackmailing the upper class should be the rule. Downton Abbey is a lovely series but it is also a conservative fantasy. Reality is quite different and the working class should do everything we can to survive. These people are actual parasites.
Speak for yourself. I'm working class, but I'm not a criminal and I don't consider other people "parasites".
