Emma Stone was not allowed to portray Cruella smoking as she had previously been since Disney had banned characters being shown smoking in its films since 2007.
Take note future Disney movies, this is how you properly do a remake. Taking a classic movie villain (or even a side character) and show them in a different perspective. First with Maleficent, and now Cruella. I can’t wait to see who’s next.

This is a much better trailer, it doesn't feel like it's making Cruella feel like a victim and as if we should feel sorry for her. Here, Cruella really feels like her crazy and fashionable self, who is using and tricking the people around her to do and achieve what she wants. This feels like Cruella.
I mean, you do feel bad & relate with her in the beginning when you see how she started off, but then they balance it out with her typical crazy & fashionable self. It basically shows Cruella going through a negative character arc and that this boss/rival gave her the push she needed to become the psychotic fashionista we know & love today

This movie truly was a masterpiece left me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Stone's acting was perfect i love how she brought the character to life. Thompson's acting was perfect as well she really made the baroness a good rival for Cruella. I would rate this movie 10/10

Second of all she shows zero character development and literally becomes the person she wanted to beat in the first place. Let’s also talk about the fact that all of the male characters are useless in this movie. Honestly I wanted to know more about the servants in this movie. But that’s okay because at the end of the movie she’s sitting with Dalmatians who which by the way we’re the same animals she just tried to skin alive. She doesn’t stay true to the source material or her character to begin with. But I guess that’s okay when you can’t have females be villainous in any way shape or form, this was not a good film and it will show in the box office. But you’re entitled to your opinion I’m just telling you what you ignored in this “dog water” (see what I did there) film. I however wanted to see a villain version of this film that tells the story of an evil Cruela as she struggles with her own self doubts and personal demons (like depression and addiction) that takes us through a redemption arc. But then Cruela is given a choice and she chooses wrong and after being given a choice she plunges into the character we know and hate (but love her because we can hate her) that skins puppies for coats

The only thing people interpreted as a "women empowerment" thing was the "I am woman, hear me roar" quote. Which by the way is not a feminist line. They keyword in that saying is "roar", not "woman". It was pretty clear this was not about feminism or patriarchy. It's a woman fighting a woman in an indutry that has always been run by women. A woman beating a woman is not female empowerment.
I certainly think disney wasnt trying to come across like that, but to a lot of people it did. Anyways this trailer is better.

I was a little hesitant based on their first trailer how this would turn out, but I saw this movie today and I loved it! Best movie Disney has had come out in a while. Emma Stone seemed to have so much fun with this character, and it's a joy to watch. The costumes and the production design and the music and the storyline... it's all so slick and clever, I just loved it. Will definitely buy this movie when it's out on DVD.

I'm so glad they didn't go the tired and boring route of re-creating the original animated movie in live action. The backstories of villains (and heroes) are much more interesting. This movie is a song of dialog, acting, costumes and plot. Oscars for Emma S and Emma T!
Yeah I agree with you completely. I absolutely loved Cruella and if I had to give it a score I’d give it a 9.5/10. Everything about it just worked so perfectly, and I can’t wait for Cruella 2.

Those beautifully twisted violins also seem to be assuaging a possible concern I have:
I, like I'm sure many, had initially had minor fears that this would be just another 'Maleficent,' a retelling in which a classic villainess is morphed into a feminist hero. Don't get me wrong, I liked 'Maleficent,' but I wouldn't want to see them keep copying that formula as it could get stale in a hurry.
Instead, it appears that they are making this a villain origin story, on how a longing for power and self- advancement, coupled with the merciless advice her mentor the Baroness gave her and a splash of old- fashioned psychopathy, caused Estella to go from a low- level street grifter to a full- on monster. The violins help to convey this, giving it a menacing feel which seems to further symbolize Estella's deteriorating mental state as she becomes Cruella.
Let's hope the movie is as good as the trailers and not just another overhype

The movie takes a while to actually have the villainess form

The movie is long made and the story was written back in 2017-2018 already. There was really no sign of them ever portraying her as a misunderstood villain. They did that with Maleficent because in the original fairy tale, Maleficent actually was a misunderstood villain. She was a good fairy that was mistreated by the king because she was old and ugly. Cruella on the other hand has always been pure evil in all versions of the story.
We. clearly saw that in the last trailer where she literally called herself a psycho and "born bad." People have terrible comprehension skills, honestly.
This is a story of revenge and the beginnings of a villain. She won't be full villainous by the end, but clearly on the road.

Is it weird I don't see her as a villain in this movie since everyone else is calling her one which is what the movie is supposed to make her as. Like I see her with a dark sense of humor and yes a bit mad but I don't see her as a villain. I guess if they can't be classified as a hero they are classified as a villain?. Maybe just me thinking this tho.
Yeah she definitely isn't a villain in this reimagining. The Cruella from the cartoon is evil, this one isn't, and I don't think they'll be able to set her up to be. She's fabulous though.

I just finished watching it. What a freaking MASTERPIECE!!! Cruella was SO much better than I thought it would be. Emma Stone KILLED it as the titular character, and Emma Thompson was just as magnificent. I was mostly excited for this film because I like Emma Stone, and also because I just LOVE Disney villains. And, oh my gosh, the COSTUMES!! They were absolutely stunning, and it has a shot for Best Costume Design for next year's Oscars. Cruella was a fantastic film, and it's now my favorite live-action Disney movie!! (Maleficent was my favorite before)

the live action movies take the animated movies that are beautiful and have actual thought out into them, and then resells it with a new skin saying it’s interesting

@@abigailw7146 Yes I loved it, I was trying to say if all the live actions were as original as Cruella or Maleficent (which I think is great because it is the same story from a completely different perspective and was drastically different from the original) then people would enjoy them much more because they would bring these amazing stories to life again while also being distinct and original. I think one of the advantages that Cruella had was that it was PG-13, which really gave the directors and writers the freedom to make the unique and original story that they wanted. I would not be opposed to more PG-13 live actions not for gore or death, but rather the ability for the movies to dive into heavier topics and more intense stories, providing more distinct and original movies that can stand on their own and differentiate themselves from the originals. if that makes sense, sorry that was kida a rant lol
I thought it was a good movie but, it found it distracting that Disney took established characters from the original 101 Dalmatians movie and decided to change their skin color for no other reason than to appease the woke mobs.
I don't remember Disney changing anyone's skin color in Mulan. There were no black Chinese people.

Today was my first time seeing this movie and wooow!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS FILM, THE TWIST IN PLOT CAPTIVATING NOT AT ALL WAS I EXPECTING. BRILLIANT 5 STARS, TWO THUMBS WAY WAY UP. OSCAR WINNNG.

Just finished watching and i’m literally mindblown. This movie was an amazing 8/10! The outfits were gorgeous, the acting was perfect, and everything about it was just amazing! Highly recommend anyone to watch, this movie is definitely one of my favorites from Disney now.

I can see why some people are already mad at this movie, since they made a dog-killing villain to what seems to be a feministic hero, but I don't really see it yet.
I see it more as an origin story as to how Cruella got to the insane point where she was willing to kill dogs, and less of a "bad guy actually good" kind of thing. I really hope that's what Disney's going for

Not every female character is automatically some “feminist” hero, and anyways having female anti-hero’s is a must need. It’s adds variety for women. But the response this movie has gotten goes to show everyone will always have something to bitch about when it comes to women and female characters.
Exactly, it’s all about balance, you can make villain characters interesting or a little sympathetic, bc it’s important why it makes us uncomfortable, to see villainy as something that spawns in people, not born super villain, but at the end of the day they still end up as they are. Heck they can even incorporate some feminism, just as joker incorporated ableism, *as long as you aren’t villainizing either of those groups or excusing the characters actions*
