      @@devinharris481 How so? The most you can possibly brake is to the point just before the wheels lock, which is exactly where the ABS will kick in. If you add engine braking, that just means your brakes will do less work, but they absolutely could lock the wheels if the ABS let them. The limiting factor is wheel traction, not braking power.
      In Germany, driving instructors, as well as training material, all tell you to fully press both clutch and brake immediately, to avoid accidental stalling.

    For those who don’t get it, and this explanation is for those of you who understand what the rev gauge means (I know 50% of drivers on the roads have no idea what the rev gauge means). Let’s say you’re driving and you’re at about 2k revs (which is what most diesel engines will drive at at normal speeds in the correct gear - and at around 2.5-3k for petrols ) if you have to stop in an emergency and the first thing you do is put your clutch down, then your wheels will become disconnected from the engine and the only thing stopping your car is the brakes, however if you have to stop in an emergency you should brake first, wait until your revs are back down to idle (around 1k revs) and then put the clutch down. I know for most people in an emergency hitting the clutch and brakes at the same time as soon as possible is the easiest thing to do but let’s say you’re at 60mph and there is a situation 50m ahead, in this situation you should always brake as much as you can and once your car hits idle revs then put the clutch down, for the more experienced drivers you will know to downshift as the speed slows down but for everyone else the minimum you should be doing is waiting for your car to drop to idle revs then put the clutch down. When you brake this way your car is able to use engine braking as well as your normal brakes to slow down and it will slow your car down drastically faster than just using the brakes. This technique should always be adopted when driving no matter whether you’re in an emergency situation or just driving.
    For those of you who don’t know what the rev gauge means, and you have a full manual driving licence, I highly suggest you gain knowledge on what the rev gauge is telling you.

    • @aphextwin5712
      @aphextwin5712 Рік тому +1

      This depends on the speed and the car, as well as the road conditions. As soon as you get into ABS range, the extra effect from engine braking becomes irrelevant because the limiting factor becomes the friction between your tires and the road. At higher speeds (and engine revs), engine braking will have a larger effect. At lower speeds and revs, you will get much more quickly into ABS range as well as idle rpm (and once you drop below idle, the engine will work against your goal of stopping). And the better the brakes of your car, the less likely it is that engine braking will contribute much.
      The final question I have never seen an authoritative answer on is the effect of engine inertia. If your brakes slow down your wheels and driveshaft faster than engine friction can eat up engine inertia, keeping the engine coupled to you wheels works against you.

    • @B2KJFF

      When you are on a gas, thats when the weight of the car is transferred back, and as soon as you clutch the momentum slows and the weight goes to the fron which improves the braking distance and lower the control you have.
      Physically, what would make the braking harder when the weight is front🤦‍♂️ it just stops faster but you are going to "roll out" because the steering is basically hyper sensitive at that point. But that is better for a emergency brake, stops faster and you wont stall your car

    You actually want to full clutch if you wanna break in case of emergency. That's part 1 of the 2. There are two cases that might happen if you don't clutch immediately, 1. You accidentally press accelerate and you increase your speed or 2. You break and your car as well as the engine stops abruptly. That's the only 2 things that can happen. If, in both cases, you apply full clutch, you'll not speed up, for case 1, neither your engine will stop, for case 2, which leaves room to navigate further after breaking.

    • @sooryanhits

      The entire automotive world disagrees with you. Clutching first will remove all the engine breaking you have which will actually increase the speed of the vehicle even if you don't even touch your accelerator. The proper method is to break first then clutch and the clutching here is only to prevent the engine from stopping. If you are more skilled, then you can down shift also during an emergency stop but even then breaks first.

      For an argument let's say this happened, then according to you to nullify the acceleration you should full clutch even before your vehicle's speed started to reduce. This is the case where you lose engine breaking. In a normal emergency breaking, full clutching is only to prevent the engine from stopping which should be done when your vehicle is about to stop. You don't need to full clutch anywhere before that, because when your wheels are moving and the clutch is disengaged, the wheels will rotate the engine.

      And this channel if for beginners, not experienced people. Beginner make all sort of mistake, including pressing accelerator instead of brake in emergency, because people panic.
      Emergency gives you barely 2seconds to react and as per your comment you will rely on engine breaking it seems. I clearly understood how good you are with your driving sense. Please stay out of the roads and English forums too 🙂

      @@swastikrajghosh 2 seconds to react doesn't mean vehicle will stop in 2 seconds. Yes I do rely on sudden braking with engine braking assistance. I know for a fact that the vehicle using emergency braking with engine breaking assistance will stop faster than a vehicle which doesn't rely on engine braking. I even do down shifts also during emergency braking. There are videos which teach you the difference between with and without engine braking during an emergency stop. Please go watch at least. Lol. No point in talking to you man. Good night 😂. By the way what is your stopping distance from 90KMPH under all perfect conditions?

    The only reason for having your foot on the clutch pedal is to disengage the clutch. If you're braking to a stop, you don't need to do that till the engine reaches idling speed.

    I keep one foot on the accelerator, one on the brake if I need to stop instantly and my other foot on the clutch in case I need to changes gears quickly.
    Joking aside. I have one foot on the brake when I'm not accelerating as that's the most important one. No point having it on the accelerator if you're not using it.

    Another bad habit car drivers of manuals can get into is pulling it out of gear while braking. Not only does this increase your stopping distance it also make you immobile in an emergency if you need to move. I had a car cut my truck off one morning in the rain then they got cut off too and instead of going around the other car he completely stopped leaving me no chance and because he was one of these floater brakers he couldn't get it back into gear quick enough to get out of my way.

    • @fluo9576
      @fluo9576 Рік тому

      If you do an emergency brake ABS will kick in and then it doesn't matter if you're in gear or not. Factory brakes have enough stopping force to lock the wheels, any more braking force isn't gonna do much. Engine braking is useful for repeated and precision braking, but if you slam the brakes once it doesn't matter if you're in neutral

    I had an accident one month, and my 1st reaction was to much the clutch and brake at the same time, 3 weeks later a friend of mine almost had an accident, very similar to mine, if i didnt yell we would have crashed and my instinct of putting my legs in the "invisible pedals" kicked in and that's when ive noticed that my left leg was hurting a lot 😬

      @@navv9467 Pressing on the accelerator is not linear. It increases gradually as the car starts moving. Your clutch peddle can be released quickly until you feel the engagement. When you feel the engagement it’s almost like you are pausing until you feel the car move and as you feel the car move gently release. Every other shift can be faster with the clutch. Listen to the engine sound. When you are starting out, just keeping the engine pitch constant by increasing or decrease your accelerator input.
