There are a few red motor reminders here. I miss the HQ-HZ engine bay where you can climb in and share the workspace with the engine when the back gets a bit stiff. With the rocker cover washers, somehow there always seemed to be one which would escape and evade. After you took time out and ratted a replacement from a wreck, the missing one would re-appear.

One of the best designed cars ever in my opinion. Smash them into something, just unbolt the front and swap it out. You can do a six cyinder clutch in under half an hour, and everything is easy to get to. When I had my first workshop (1986/1996) these cars were a major portion of our work load. I drove a HQ Kingswood ute for 20 years, it had a186 in it when I took it over. It wore out a 202 next, and after that I put a tired 253 in it and then a 308. Good times.👍

@@robsshed The Western Australian Police were trailering a damaged HQ sedan to shows and exhibitions for a while. The front of the car was absolutely annihilated almost back to the firewall. The cabin remained intact. The purpose was to demonstrate that had the driver been wearing a seatbelt, he would have survived.

We are about the same age (opp sides of the country) and I was a broke fitter/machinist that could never afford to buy anything to keep my old Holdens running, just cobbled everything to keep them going. I'd get one running well and sell it to buy another clunker and that's how I could afford to eat (had 24 Hk-t-g's over the time). It's amazing how little is actually needed to get them running again. My newer cars now can have the slightest issue (usually electrical) and they refuse to run (I'm still talking early EFI pre-2000). I have an FE that I can start any time without complaint even years between starts. I've just started restoring it after 35 years of ownership and one day it will run again if I can afford the now expensive rebuild cost of the parts (that used to be easy to get and cheap). I have followed your channel for a long time and this content is great but your repair stuff is important too. You now have a great mix. I don't care how long they are, I'll always watch the lot, sometimes a number of times. Cheers.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiances and for the channel feedback. Old Holden parts have gone past rediculous in price, and yes it pushes the build price of our projects way out there. A car that you have so much history with will be well worth it in the end. Just out of curiousity what body style do you have? The first car I owned that actually drove was a FC ute paddock basher, and I have always wanted a nice road going one of those. We will continue videos with a spread of topics and fields within the automotive spectrum. Cheers Rob.

@@robsshed I have a 05/57 FE Special sedan in Maroon body with Etna White roof with 58k genuine miles on it and am the second owner. I expect the cost to restore will be largely driven by the parts I can't make such as engine components/seals and interior trimming, paint fluid, and wear items such as brakes. I intend to even make replicas of the master cylinder reservoirs (or at least try). I'm anticipating $5k tops. But it won't be concourse. I don't need to source missing parts due to it all being original and present. Thanks for reading. I appreciate your instructional and history filled content and style. Fire is a constant risk, and not to be trifled with. Being a cool day and using fuel that wasn't that new reduces the risk. Carburettor fires usually can be extinguished easily by cranking the engine, pulling the flame back under the throttle butterfly and closing the throttle. Becomes second nature after awhile. Bigger blazes can be quickly put out by quickly flopping a rag down over it. The speed of applying the rag pushes the air out of the way starving the fire. Guess you can work out how I know this. Cheers Rob.

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!

Hi Steven. Thanks for commenting. We do use an external mic, and as far as I know, the sound comes through well. I've just played it back again to confirm, but we are not having any problems with audio. It can be turned up quite loud on my mobile phone as well.
      Cheers
