    In 1984 my dad convinced me to buy a VC Commodore...At 118,000 kms driving home from work one day the engine went bang bang bang ...It broke a piston skirt off ...Put a reco motor in ..A few months later the gearbox started playing up ...Then the electrical issues then ,then ...Absolute piece of garbage ...After 3 years of money pitting with it I traded it in on a XE Falcon ..Was doing big kays in those days..For five years I drove that beaut car basically trouble free ..Bought a Telstar and had no probs , then an EF Futura Falcon ...same thing no probs .. Traded it on a lovely Series 2 AU Futura in 2003 . That car is still in my possession ...big kays , Still runs as sweet as ever ..Apart from one alternator , A pair of front brake calipers and a couple of power window switches she's still going with original parts ..almost nothing has failed ..Give me an Australian built Falcon any day ...Oh yes and I also have a stunning Series 1 FG XR6 that drives literally like new ..Owned her since early 2016 ..Love my Ford Falcons .... Great video...Will definitely subscribe..awesome content ...Thanks..

    Sweet. My dad had an XD Fairmont 6 cylinder when I was on my Ps. Loved driving that. You're right, had great power-weight. Went up against an XY GTHO from red lights once, kept up all the way to 80kph, then the V8 stretched its legs.
    Superb channel, have watched all your videos since the start, learnt heaps for my own projects. Thanks Rob & Deb.

    Here across the ditch, we had a batch of Transit(s) that had the inline 6 ( 4.1 ) recognized that label 🏷 on the rocker cover.
    I had heard in aussie that these vans were used in the outback postal service.
    The one I became familiar with when I lived in south Auckland was in 1982 and had been converted into camper painted navy blue.
    Also in NZ was the TE / TF Cortina's that were more numerous which also had the UK Pinto as an option.
    Last TE 4.1 across the harbour bridge ( auckland ) was used by a freelance welding contractor in about 2005 whilst I worked on the Bruce Mason theatre 🎥 with all welding gear and towing required.
    In 2007 moved to Waikato and sold timber with forklifting & front end loader work.
    This December I turn 59.
    Thanks for all the entertainment around the 4.1 😊

    Great video! BTW, growing up on the farm in Iowa, our 1975 Dodge pickup had a plastic fuel tank. It was a 3/4 ton 4WD club-cab long bed with a 440 engine. I never saw such terrible gas mileage until I bought a pre-HE Jag V-12, years later...😁

      @robsshed  Рік тому

      It was one of the points of intrest that they threw at us young blokes at technical school. In recient discussion it seems that the 1979 Falcon was the first "passenger" car with a plastic tank. I guess it was just bragging rights for Ford Australia at the time. Coincidentally the day we recorded this bit of footage, I watched one of Dereks videos, he had a 1977 Dodge. I guess the same as the one you mentioned, I noticed it had the plastic tank when he lifted it up. I love all these little facts and figures from the industry. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Rob.

    My first car was a 1951 Vauxhall Velox. Did a trip in it once. Next morning put 8 pints of oil in her and about $2.00 of petrol. It was as the old saying went. "Check the petrol and fill her up with oil!"
    Most interesting vehicle I owned was a 1950 Armstrong Siddeley Utility Coupe. I was 17 and saw it sitting at the back of a car lot. I just had to have it! Paid $30 for it. It had the famous Preselector gearbox in it. I hand painted it Black and white (Port Adelaide colours, not Collingwobbles), My mate and I drove it everywhere, it was a major Chick Magnet!

    • @GODEES77
      @GODEES77 Рік тому +2

      I think it was more a body design issue. Being basically a cube water would just sit in places you couldn’t see and by the time you saw the rust it was generally too late (why the call rust cancer, because usually it’s spread before it’s detected). Hence in around 1988 car designs went in a more rounded appearance to eliminate pooling of water on flat surfaces behind rubber seals. Poor seals and drainage was a massive factor in the XD-XF run. I am a Holden guy, but looked after those 250 cross flows would run forever. As Rob stated if maintenance or preventative measures weren’t taken the alloy head would drop valves, but like any engine of the time if they were looked after they would just go forever. I think the biggest reliability issues of modern engines is having to comply with the forever changing emissions laws and not having the time to properly engineer them, example an engine development program would start work with a certain emissions guideline and by the time it would good to go, emissions laws changed and they had to make changes on the fly to comply without fully testing changes. I think from an Australian standpoint the Barra was probably the most reliable engine from day 1 since old Holden Red Motor (except the rods bending when they backfired but ford fixed that along with oil pump Drive issues pretty quickly) I often find things to delve deeper into after listening to Rob. Such a lovely guy who makes these videos to genuinely pass on tips ect. I know any money he gets from the channel goes straight back into the channel.
