DOOOOD! you replied to me last week on another of your videos, when I commented it didnt match up to my current experience. I just now decided to dig in and found this new video you just posted... and honestly just seeing the screenshare in the first minute was all I need to get the data I was looking for. thank you!
That's wild! You're very welcome and thanks for letting me know. Your comment on the other video was the final motivation I needed to make this updated video.
Alright! I’m glad to hear that this was helpful for you. I remember being totally mystified by UTMs myself, so it’s awesome to hear that this was worth your while to check out
Great video! I was wondering, how can I link a QR code to Google Analytics? I've seen many Google Analytics tutorials, but none that explain this specific connection. Is there one that covers this? Thank you!
Good question. Here's what you do: 1. Generate your full URL with proper UTM parameters appended (as in this video) 2. Go to your QR code generator tool and paste in the full URL with UTMs that you just generated (you might consider using to identify your QR code like ) 3. Use your new QR code 4. The QR code takes visitors to your website with the UTM parameters appended and Google Analytics will track it as such
Loved it as always, Zack I see people being concerned about the long URLs when UTMs are implemented, what’s your take on it? Does it make any difference?
Thanks, Ishita. I appreciate the support! In terms of the long URLs, it doesn't make any difference in terms of SEO or in terms of analytics. The only impact is on the visual end for the visitor. I suppose people might have different takes there, but I don't see any negative impact there. Is that the long-URL context the reason you had seen when others cited concerns?
@@rooted-digital that’s exactly what I was asking. I’ve seen people having mixed reviews but I guess we must use them when we want to have granular look at our data. Thanks a ton, Zack Appreciate your input. 😊
By campaign builder, you mean the URLs you built with this tool (ga-dev-tools.google/campaign-url-builder/), right? If you give me an example or two of a URL with UTMs that you’ve built, I’ll see if I can diagnose anything. Also, if you’ve only just launched a campaign it’s possible that it’s just a lag in the data. Is it a brand new campaign within the last day or so?
I added UTMs to the GBP website button for multiple locations. I'm able to capture sessions by location, but I'm also seeing sessions for other pages that I did not intend on capturing. Why would that be?
That's very interesting. There are multiple places to insert links in the GPB profile (e.g. main website button, appointments link), so is it possible you inserted links with UTMs in multiple places? If you send some specific examples of what you're seeing in your GA4 reports, I can see if anything else comes to mind. Best wishes.
@@rooted-digital Sure, the UTMs were assigned to only the main website button in the GBP. The purpose is to see what traffic Google is driving. However, we are seeing other landing pages appear in GA for the given UTM session source/medium. Let me know if you need more specific examples. Thanks for responding!

Nice
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for checking it out.
Having trouble syncing my Campaign Builder with GA4. Campaigns will not show up. Any guidance? Thanks for these videos - super helpful.
