In my opinion, it's a red card to both players. The first tackle from Diaz is nuts. Running into the back of an opponent with your elbow in the lower back then shoulder at the neck. No thoughts about getting the ball or anything.
Let’s be honest mate, as soon as we went down to 10 men we just sat back and let you have the ball because we knew you wouldn’t do anything with it. We done the exact same last few seasons, everytime we got a red card we just sit back and counter attack and it works a dream. We stop pressing, we stop working in packs and just simply sit back. If it was 11v11 we would of grew into the game. We played Sheffield United a few month ago and the first 20 minutes they were dominating us, we then went onto win 8-0. I don’t know why we start slow but it’s always been the case that we grow into games and it seems to work. I think yous will struggle this season trying to play out from the back, it won’t work like it did in the championship, Burnley tried it last season and ended up getting relegated. Think your manager will need to change it up.
We did do quite a lot with it. You had a goal line clearance and a goal line block. Unsurprisingly when one of the better teams in the league put 10 men behind the ball they can manage to make it difficult for a newly promoted side to get clear cut chances but it wasn't like it was an easy win for you.
Fraser Forster also played for both clubs...I'm a Newcastle fan btw. Speaking of goalkeepers, we have a dearth of them and Dubravka would do a fantastic job for you, most other teams he'd be a number 1. Good luck for the rest of the season though (with the exception of Brereton Diaz!)

I'm a Newcastle fan and Southampton were dominating before the sending off. We were absolutely pathetic, glad we won the game but we only won because of their goalkeeper made a mistake and Southampton couldn't finish their dinner. We were not good at all.
You couldn't beat 10 men for over an hour. It doesn't bode well. We aren't even the toughest game you will play. Don't be so quick to think you dominated when you didn't.

Newcastle fan here. Fair play to you folks, as you played the way we usually would and dominated the game from whistle to whistle. We looked tired and lacked the hunger to win until we went up. The red card should've never happened though... when you look at the full passage of play with Bruno being fouled at the center and then Diaz shoulder checking Schar from behind after a whistle, and then faking the headbutt like that... that red card was criminal. It genuinely felt for most of the match that Southampton players could do as they liked while our players would get carded or sent off for the slightest thing. Bruno got clotheslined at one point ffs, and there was no card for your player!
Brereton Diaz is an embarrassment. Getting a fellow pro sent off like that is low. He's more suited to the WWE. Football and VAR need to apply some common sense. The push from behind after the whistle caused more damage.

As a nufc fan I think I speak for us all when we say we hope you do well this season. You deserved to see a good game after that travel. The red card was shocking, pure aggression toward schar, totally uncalled for they should have been treated the exactly the same for their behaviours. I think you will do well rest of the season from that performance (deffo need a new keeper) I’m taking away how well we defended with 10 men. We lacked in our defence last season and proved we won’t be broken down this year 💪

Dear God, man, if you watch the replays (which is the whole point of the VAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), it is rather obvious that both Schar and Diaz place their heads together. The difference is that Schar was a man and stayed on his feet, and Diaz was a cheat and faked an injury to get Schar sent off. Clearly, Schar had to go, but it was VAR's job to point out to Pawson that Diaz had made the exact same gesture with his forehead (possibly gone in there first, in fact) and therefore also had to go.
I am betting Newcastle Utd to struggle for points this season. Their average players are just too proud and EH is out of his depth trying to win a trophy by over-spending on average players

One mistake cost you a point, get way with it in the championship, not in this league.
