Firat didn’t do this to be appreciated or for respect. He did this as a selfless act. This is exactly why i appreciate Firat. That is why he will always have my respect. Long live the Kurdish people.
The Kurds are very underappreciated. They are good guys who refuse to stop fighting the good fight. It is sad that Syria is often overlooked by Iraq, Afghanistan, and even Iran.
@jeremiahjohnson1976 you're comment can only be described as brain-dead. The kurds are an ethnic minority they have no religious affiliation hell I'm pretty sure firat is Christian.
This man should be an advisor on politics in the middle east he has such a deep understanding of both sides. Men like this could change everything we know about that area.
Thank you Firat for your service and for your dedication in the fight against terrorism!! We are of different ethnicities but it don't matter cause we all have a common good purpose and that's really awesome to see brothers come together to do the right thing and stand together against evil! You seem like a good hearted man and i would definitely be honored to fight beside you! God bless you Firat and all the other combat veterans that fight for good! Keep up the great work, we support you. 👏
Same here. I've made a habit of rewatching that series every few months since first I watched it in 2018. It's very inspiring and encouraging, even for a civilian because it can inform us on how the be a value-add here at home.
Amazing story about real people fighting real wars. In one perspective Firat story belongs also to the unconventional warfare world. Going there with no training and learning “on job” in such a conflict is insane. Respect to Firat and to all the ones that thrive in combat whit such unshakable attitude. Great work by Ryan once more!
I worked with Kurt's when we operated out of Mosul in 2003 & 2004. They are tough, tough filters and great guys to work with . I was able to help get out there, Mosen , over here with his family and I see him weekly . A great friendship forged in hardship . Totally loyal.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!! Really appreciate the time and thought you put into your guests, questions ect it really shows and makes your podcast standout as one of the best! This was a fascinating interview & most people do not give the Kurds the credit they deserve. He lived a truely inspiring life & his sacrifice does not go unnoticed!
This incredible interview showed up on my feed the same week I learned about and listened to Nadia Murad’s book ‘Last Girl.’ She is one of the Yazidi women mentioned here. In her book, she tells the story of the siege and capture of her people by isis, the genocide of their men and elders, the enslavement of their girls and women, and the details of her escape. In recent news Nadia was cancelled as a speaker at an event because the organizers feared she might encourage “islamophobia.” I hope others who listen to this interview will also read or listen to her story as well. She should not be cancelled! The pairing of the two stories-this interview and her book- gave me a more comprehensive understanding and helped me to better appreciate the work of these men.
Nadia now works to raise awareness and actively seeks justice for her people. I’d love to see a part 3 interview with both her and Firat. How often does an audience get to hear from a representative of the fighting class alongside a representative of the people for whom he fights? The idea is a little out-of-the-box and might take some extra logistical work, but I think it would be a powerful experience for the listener.
This was different, but just as amazing as all your other interviews. Those of us who have served and been in conflicts will have undoubtedly wondered if it's all worth it, or ask ourselves why we are fighting a particular war thousands of miles away from home. Firat, however, was fighting for his people and his homeland. Firat seems like a really genuine guy and fought for something he held dear to him at the risk of being labelled a terrorist. This second part was particularly interesting to me because, years ago, I used to follow his friend Jack on Instagram. I remember not seeing any posts from him in some time, so checked the comments on his last post. That was how I found out Jack had tragically been KIA. Keep up the great work, Ryan.
Great interview and amazing perspective inside the fight against the monsters of ISIS. Thank you so much for this one. Firat is a true hero for his people and for the world. If evil is allowed to prevail it will. Thank you for what you did sir! God Bless you and your family.
Firat - good bless you, sir. You are an inspiration and it is an honor just to hear you detail your life experience and for sacrificing to fight the evil of ISIS. God bless the YPG/YPJ. May they prosper in God's grace. Ryan - thank you so much for bringing Firat and his story to your audience. Several of the Army Rangers, Special Forces and Australian SAS have spoken about their time fighting ISIS. It would be awesome if you had time to cultivate a Combat Story series on the fight against ISIS from the guests you've already had on and the guests that those guests could connect you with. 🇺🇲❤️
The "Buffers" in a vacuum for control, and power to extremist views, are those who suffer most. Not a world soldier, and recognized as such, by the powers that be; The last 10 mins of this 2 part interview hit me like a slap round! Personal sacrifice for the greater good; Ferat knew, even as a youthful BreakDancer; "If it has to be, It has to be me." That's huge! Thank you for this moving tale, that aside from all, he could tell it... Godspeed to all who endure!
Firat's story is truly captivating. He goes from the security of Sweden to a country filled with war and destruction to help his people and his relatives in the fight against what I would claim is the worst organization the modern world has seen. Good man! As a Norwegian and with Sweden as a neighboring country, it was still fascinating to hear him tell his story. Interesting to hear what it was like to face Western and northern European ISIS terrorists in battle and fully understand that he wanted to find out everything he could about those thugs! Keep up the good fight!
Wow just get gooder and gooder guys. What great role models you offer the public. Wish my Dad a Nam Vet had this to help him find the peace in a life of warfare. I love and miss you Dad….We will be together again at Jesus’s feet I hope and pray.
Easily the best interview/story I have ever heard. Absolutely incredible. It’s hard to listen to this short breakdown of what this man witnessed first hand and not be moved. As a civilian with no combat experience i cannot fathom what his experience was like, but fuck me just listening to his story was a feeling. Great job on setting up the guest and keep this shit coming!
At 1:11:00, I remember watching that video shortly after it came out. It has since been scrubbed from the internet. Actually most of the combat videos from Manbij are gone.
Thanks Firat for your story! It’s great to hear about fighting in a militia as a part of a large coalition. It’s also great to hear the US was there (at times) to support you in the battle against of one of the most truly evil organizations in recent human history.
Pshhh! My life is so meaningless,. I've been lied to, used and abused and tricked into worrying about meaningless things! It makes me so 🤬! Thank you for sharing a REAL piece of reality with us as an American I can believe in and make sense of....... perhaps the most profound interview I've ever seen. RIP Jack.
I agree. The US should've stood with the Kurds but they didn't because they didn't want to hurt the feelings of Turkey. Kurds and Turks need to learn how to get along.
It's not about getting along, it's about systems of power that bases it's whole mindset on a one nation policy. There's no room for kurds or any other minorities in that system. BTW before European powers carved up the middle east and left kurds without a home country, the ottomans and kurds were almost synonymous
@@mausegetlit363 BTW the land the Kurds occupy and control in northern Iraq says differently. Turkey is very powerful in that area at the moment but the Kurds deserve our loyalty in the US for theirs' they have given to us. IMO....
You know Matt's brother had cancer, and they wouldn't deploy him, so he snuck into another unit deployed with them without a weapon or anything. Once in Iraq, he went to the Armory and ended up getting issued equipment. All this while having cancer. Matt best story is pretty good. You have no idea, son
@operationNOBO sounds like you did nothing in life, and you just watch UA-cam videos on others' accomplishments operators did and assume they are better. Do something yourself
@J kins Where did I say he doesnt have a good story. You jumped the gun on emotions. Simply stating there are better people to interview somehow relates to my personal life is a stretch.
@operationNOBO you commented on someone personally who had a fucking excellent story; that's why I had gotten personal with you. There's thousands of stories that are great out there. One of them is Matt's. Most of the stories died with my brothers. A lot of stories should be told by others who had witnessed the best in combat. He should have men on to tell a story that someone can not tell
Firat didn’t do this to be appreciated or for respect. He did this as a selfless act.
This is exactly why i appreciate Firat. That is why he will always have my respect.
Long live the Kurdish people.

Until you find out what they were doing to the christians.
@jeremiahjohnson1976 you're comment can only be described as brain-dead. The kurds are an ethnic minority they have no religious affiliation hell I'm pretty sure firat is Christian.
These two parts are criminally under-viewed. Such a fantastic interview it's perplexing this isn't way higher views
Absolutely incredible interview. Tremendous respect and gratitude for Firat and the men and women he fought alongside.
This man should be an advisor on politics in the middle east he has such a deep understanding of both sides. Men like this could change everything we know about that area.
This has been one of my favorite guys you've interviewed

Such a good episode, nothing but respect for Firat.
I remember seeing Firat on the “Hunting ISIS” series.
Extraordinary guy.
Immensely positive role model.

Watched part 1 last night and got up this morning and started part 2. Great interview.
Grace and Peace to you Firat.
Thanks for dropping part 2. We need part 3
This was one of your best interviews yet. Would love to hear more like this.
Great story Firat, thanks for sharing.

Gives a person a new perspective of the turmoils these people go through.
Great interview. Great guest. As an American, I find it so interesting to hear this story from such an honorable soldier.
