TOP TENT FACTORIES FROM CHINA - How RTTs are made. There are a few countries that produce large quantities of RTTs, for example Portugal, Turkey, South Korea, South Africa, USA, etc. but they only cover 20% of the entire industry. We include here also the start-ups that produce 1-2 expensive tents from various countries. The rest of 80% of roof top tents are made in China by around 8 factories. The Chinese factories have evolved a lot in the last 6 years and are now able to innovate by themselves or assimilate and copy innovative trends. Chinese factories are capable of producing cheap RTTs or Premium ones and they are working with multiple USA, Australian or European top brands (Tepui, Thule, ARB, Ironman, etc). The majority of the roof top tents are high quality and long lasting, with one exception in our view, and these are the ones made in Turkey with poor cheap and rusty materials but still sold at medium/high prices.
In the video we have 3 years old images from 5 Chinese factories and we can confirm that many of them have upgraded since then but the principles/steps of roof top tent manufacturing remain the same as: The materials/parts like canvas/textile/metal production, canvas cutting, canvas sawing, canvas isolating/gluing, tent assembly and tent packaging.
As you van see in the video, the RTTs are hand made and require a lot of skill, dedication and time from multiple people. It is not an easy work to create a full roof top tent and one mistake can ruin an entire product, this is why you need such a trained and delicate workforce.

PS. As for buying Alibaba or Amazon, well, for transportation care, warranty, higher quality materials and a higher level of quality control we do recommend buying them from dedicated brands that import such tents and not from ''no name'' Amazon sellers. Two tents can look the same but might have different materials, different canvas sizes, different zippers, different internal floor, etc. and considering the overall price, such small details cost a lot in the big picture.
