Samsung Bot Chef first look at CES 2020

- Normally when I miss breakfast, it's by choice. Today, it was because I was in a rush to get to Samsung's booth on the CES show floor and see if I could get any face time with the company's cute new rolling robot. (That, uh, didn't go so great.) The trip was still well worth it, though, because I got to eat a tofu salad partially made by a pair of robotic arms slung from the bottom of some kitchen cabinets.

I'm in a wheelchair and would love some extra helping hands.
An extra pair or 3 and be octoman lol
Yeah me too.
@Duupar Well I'm in a wheelchair because I'm a lazy. You see I'm a satanist and practice the deadly sin of sloth - so I do as little as possible.
may god bless you 🙏
I was thinking these would be for people with multiple disabilities, but if they are useful to people in wheelchairs then all the better

Wha? Starving is a way of losing weight? Yeah I mean ig but it's never healthy. You'll have to exercise & not starve. You need nutrients in your body my guy. 😂
This will be helpful for elderly people and those with disabilities.
it would be helpful for everyone lmao, idk if you are aware how much time cooking takes of your day, probably an hour on average for most people so the amount of time saved would be immense.
And for lazy people like me! :D

I can't wait to get my hands on these if they are standard in the future.
I need one of these in my glove box. My commute would be much more fun.
Good stuff, my only gripe is the arms dont fold away, imo they should move into the top cabinets, or even the back wall, i like the idea of helping hands, but not if they're constantly in my face.
I imagine retail versions probably would. But Samsung aren't going to showcase their items by hiding them
I can't imagine this technology within 10 years to come
Just look at scifi. It always gets the dates wrong, and has insanely advanced tech come out before basic tech, but if it’s a ubiquitous stereotype that doesn’t involve aliens or hyperdrives, chances are it will eventually come to fruition.
Leandro Augusto This version is actually less advanced than what came out five years ago, which had 5 fingers, and smooth fluidic motion.
With that version, they used motion capture with real chefs to get the autochef to cook thousands of meals from scratch without human assistance.
"Affordable" - a very relative term
This gadget is pretty incredible if we're being honest, I see this 15 years down the line coming as an accessory to the Samsung lineup of kitchen appliances. What would be really really cool is if they made a tool chest of sorts for it in which it was able to choose from a set of attachable components like a mixing hand or kneading hands, forget about picking up a spatula and actually let it be able to swap its hand out for a spatula and then right as your dish in the oven is ready it opens the oven and pulls out your dish. The practical application for this product is great, I can't wait to own one.
Gordon Ramsay will still shout and say "where is the lamb sauce" at the bot.
Wow new era.
Great Samsung.
Sure, let's give the robot arms a kitchen knife. What could go wrong...
A delicious hannibal that would make even dexter jealous
Well nothing much just maybe sometimes the robot might cook a human
Just use it to fight other robots.
Wait 10 years to find these things cheaper from xiaomi
10 years? They might have it available by the end of the year

samsung: i will do an ia machine

i wonder what will the robot do when let say they want to add sauce or oil and the lid is broken and drop not at the usual amount.
You: "Goddamn! This food tastes like charred dogshit!"

Epic love Samsung
Honestly i've always wanted a tool to delicately Stir a pot to prevent burning. Stuff like Risotto where it could also smartly pour right amount of Stock. Take out the tedious work where you just Stand & Stir while you prep other parts of the meal.
The wild, WILD coming future of A.I. and robots. They will be helpful to people that are bad cooks, don't cook at all; the lazy folks, the tired, children or the elderly; the handicap/disabled, injured, the sick, etc that will need it. The gift and curse of tech.
I wish I could have those! I'm not a huge fan of cooking, but I love robotics!
How can it tell how much liquid is put if it’s half full or full will it no to pour it for a longer time frame I wonder ?
Can I attach four of those to my back?
letting that thing cut the meat... i don't know if this is a good idea.
It's a first-generation demonstration bro, chill out.
Damn I’m really excited for this technology. I hope it comes out in 10-15 years. Hopefully by then it’ll make a lot more foods and be faster with prep. Another thing they can fix is have it be behind a tempered glass wall of sorts so you can see it prepare the food but if it glitches while holding a knife you’re still safe. A self cleaning function would be cool too. Imagine if this was connected to your google assistant or I guess in this case bixby and it automatically started making dinner to be ready by the time you get home.
It can peel onion, ginger, shallot and garlic
Maybe it can replace crappy employees who don't care about their job.
soooo....... Yang 2020?
Nah he is going to loose, people love trump more
@@fbyi2940 darn. at least the robot that replaces me will probably cook better.

I didn't understand why it use spoon when its can build in robot

Having those arms to make tea and coffee in the morning without having to grab a cup or anything could be pretty cool. (though likely not cool enough to buy the system). Im not sure if it looks effective enough to leave it stirring something, but maybe when the fifth version of this is out commercially it'll be worth it, particularly for elderly people who might not yet need a carer but could do with some assistance.
What I could see it being used for in the short term is assisting in commercial kitchens with easy tasks. Chefs are often understaffed and overworked, so having an extra set of hands for the simple tasks could in theory reduce workload.
I want a robot that feeds me after cooking and washing dishes, oh, that's dish washer lol.
Lol exactly for this exact need i want to build a bot
it did throw in alot of oil.. It actually didnt need to rotate it all the way down, But all software problems the hardware looks great. :)
How long do you wait for your meal next day.
I'm buying it
Somehow I'm reminded to the Big Bang episode of Howard with the robot-arm and the hospital....
They can start by using this at restaurants to get people to come there cuz it would be cool to see a robot doing this.
Samsung is all about experiment.creative..and cool stuff!!
Unlike apple boring
After numerous, "Can it cook for me" joke we giving Samsung, they actually invent something that can cook. Damn..2020 the best year ever!!!
Yeah Samsung owned CES this year so far like holy shit.
I am excited for cobots, but I would recommend them to take a look at Boston dynamics. This robot arm looks like their stuff 10 years ago. Even the AI trained hendes are more agile than this. So I wish them good luck, but to come out on a big conference like this with a last decade tech, it is a bit sad for me.
Didn't Moley Robotics had a similar system?.
I'm pretty sure these robot arms have been in development for over 5 years now. Why are people acting like it's new?
I cant see how this could possibly go wrong.
Those arms will murder me the moment I turn my back
Hey *"Dummy"* - Tony Stark

Can we have a Mr. Handy from General Atomics?
It needs way more torque and speed.
Wait a minute so Samsung had the permit to show a pair of robot arms hanging from your cabinets but couldn't get the permit for their own electric stove??? That's pretty bizzare.

If it would be 10 times faster and would make it all itself, then i would buy it, cuz i suck at cooking very bad... i need this but with a lot of improvements
Is this coming to homes?
There was a company called moley claiming to do all this. But it didn't happen
This would be perfect for McDonald's, KFC, hot dog stands, fast food restaurants, etc. I want to see automated hot dog stands, KFC, etc., with cheaper prices.
Reminds me of Carole and Tuesday from Netflix at the bar
With much arms It could make many cooks in no time. Imagine an restaurant with only robot arms cooking. It would be an movie scene
Cool
The litmus test for this machine is being able to open 100 new pickle jars without fail. Demonstrate that and everyone will buy it.
Where to buy ?_? I have restaurant
Howard walks in.
i hope the robot can work on tiny kitchen
My father gonna buy it
I imagine this will be used for more than food...
Korea: created slow bot chef
Japan: let's steal the idea and create fast bot chef
Every chef in 15 years: THEY TOOK OUR JOBS
Seems like it really measured the amount of oil going in to that salad at 1:32 🤨
If that can make me a tofu soup, i will buy it
Boston dynamic is so much in advance
Eh kinda. But not really.
The Boston Dynamics robots are given a little more freedom be a little rougher so they move more deliberately but this has to be careful because it's using objects. I'm sure this stuff will go faster later on but I think they mostly just didn't want to accidentally fling tofu and any onlookers.
Saw this live. Its cool, but honestly it took this thing like 10 minutes to make a very simple salad.
Were the first cell phones as thin as it is now?
Were the first cars as efficient as it is now?

@@HiddenWen no need to dismiss something for its lack of potential when a slight change of perspective is enough.
