The reason Jordan was scoring so many points in his early days was because he did not know how to get his teammates involved, how to make them better, so he took uopn himself to try and score all of the points he could. When Bird was scoring maybe 28 points, he also had 10 rebounds, 8 assists, but more importantly, his teammates (McHale, Parish, DJ, Ainge) were also scoring 20+ points as well. Larry knew how to make his teammates better, and he knew how to do this this at year one. Important fact: when Bird entered the league as a rookie, he inherited the worst Celtics team in history, they were the 2nd worst team in the 1979 season with a 29-53 record. By adding Larry to the same basic starting lineup, they went 61-21, the greatest turnaround in NBA history at that time, and went on to the Eastern Conference Finals, losing to Dr. J and the 76ers. He took a losing team, then instantly became big time winners. Jordan couldn't do this, it took him years to figure this out and learn how to win. And MJ credits Bird for teaching him ruthlessness, how to berate and intimidate his opponents, and how to make his teammates better. When Bird retired, MJ stated that he was happy that Bird was gone because he ruined a lot of MJ's games.
That's bullshit. It's not that Jordan doesn't know how to get his teammate involved. Most of his teammate is not good enough to make a basket against the Celtics who got 5 Hall of Famers.

In his first three seasons, the Bulls couldn't even break .500. It wasn't until Phil Jackson became coach that Jordan began to understand team work. Actually Jordan averaged 33 against the Celtics with Bird while Bird averaged 27 against Jordan's Bulls. They did not always guard each other. Michael admitted he hated playing against Bird and thanked God when Bird retired. There were moments in those games when Jordan couldn't make a basket with Bird on him.
you should check out the video showing what started the fight between him and Dr. J. Also check out when he was embarrassing a guy and asked him if his mother was watching.
In Bird's 60 point game against the Hawks, he was 22-36 shooting, but scored 32 of his 60 points in 14 minutes. The reason he scored 60 was because Kevin McHale had just set the Celtics scoring record with 56 points a few days before this.
22-36 is off the charts elite and 32 points in 14 minutes is the same, off the charts elite!! He also told McHale to go for 60 in that game and McHale came out and rested the last couple minutes of the game. 😂
When Michael Jordan was averaging 40 pts a game against the Celtics, Larry Bird was not matched up with Jordan. That task went to the whole team. As for Larry's 27 points a game, his rebounding, steals and assists kept the whole team involved to beat the Bulls. Just saying. Have a good day guys. Love the channel. ✌️
Also, Bird frequently passed the ball, and wasn't selfish with it. Just because he got 27, doesn't mean he wasn't an even more powerful offensive force as he got the ball into the hands of his teammates.
What bird meant by 38 to 6 was every time he hit a shot on Dr. J, he would then call out the score and ask him when are you gonna start guarding me? The fight happened about the time Bird hit 30 something on him. 😂😂😂😂
Bird told the Lakers the play. The Lakers had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Magic Johnson James Worthy Michael Cooper Byron Scott on the floor and even though they knew the play they still could not stop him. Bird did that time after time and could not be stopped. Show me another player who constantly told the other team what he was going to do before he did it and the went and did exactly what he said. The greats praise him, meanwhile the only people who don't even consider him among the top players weren't even alive to see him in action. White boy can play ball.
If jordan and larry were the same age and entered the league at the same time? Jordan would not win a title. That's the difference between larry and mj.
I thought at the end of the day it all that matters is the win?! Now you are going to sit there and say BUT Jordan scored more than Bird? A win is a win. Bird was an all-around player looking to pass to make sure his team won. Seems he did that better than Jordan every time they played, he wasn't looking to pad his stats
It's nice that you give us the averages for points head to head against Jordan and say well we don't want to talk about the team thing but don't talk about rebound steals and assist which you know isn't a team thing
Yeah, Jordan scored a lot of points against Larry and his Celtics, but as Robert Parish said, we still won and "stepped all in his ass." Jordan's Bulls never beat Larry's Celtics in a playoff series.
Here's the thing with Bird vs Jordan. It is very simple and is the same thing that happened with Wilt vs Russell. The Celtics would let Wilt score as much as he wanted but deny everybody else and the Celtics usually won with that strategy. The Celtics would let Jordan score as much as he could as deny everybody else. They usually won with the same strategy.
But MJ never beat Bird! The problem was that MJ was all about MJ, while, Bird was all about winning with his team. Do you really think that MJ won all those games on his own?
You guys need to learn to actually listen to the stories instead of talking over it and missing so much. You're all likeable fellas so this isnt meant to be discouraging or anything like that.
(12:41) Quote all the stats, not just scoring, Larry could've averaged 30 plus per game but at the expense of the team! I prefer his 24 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and everything else he did to win the game over MJ's scoring. It took MJ many years to get a championship, Larry started his wins the 2nd year in the league after starting as a rookie with the worst team in the league for the 1979-1980 season, unlike Magic who started off with the best team in the league.
Jordon didn't score 40 or more a game. He had 63 pts while taking 41 shot in one game which made the point average so high. The 3rd and deciding game in the first playoffs Mikey only scored 19 pts. Mike averaged 30 shots a game. If he's not averaging 40 a game he would suck. Bird didn't guard Jordan but Jordan was on Bird most of the time until Pippen arrived.
homeboy doesn’t know what he’s talking about, Jordan only averaged 30 points against the Celtics during Birds era, and even after. Bird averaged a dbl/dbl 23/10, 90% ft, against the Bulls. Dr J was spinning, LarryBird was telling him that he was up and by how much, each time down. If I remember right, it started at 6-6, when Julius said something about how LarryBird “took the day off “. From there on LarryBird started telling him the score, 8-6, 10-6, each time down. When it got to 28-6, Erving got pissed and talked some more shi£. LarryBird got in his face and told him “ it’s 28-6 MFer!” That’s when Dr J grabbed him and took a swing. Erving gets ejected, Bird scores 10 more. That’s why Dr j said that Bird was always a thought ahead. LarryBird knew that if he just kept on Erving, he’d get in his head.
You guys are clueless about Bird. Bird didn’t guard Jordan, DJ or Ainge did. Pippen or Grant guarded Bird. Jordan’s Bulls were a non factor in the 80’s. It was Celtics, Sixers,Pistons Lakers, Rockets .
Basket ball isnt a one on one game. Who gives a fuck how many points jordan got? He got 60 points one game against the birds celtics but he still lost. And one on one its alot closer than you think bird was just playing to win and knew the safest way to do it
Bird was actually a good defender. But not against Mike. Hell, no one was really, lol. But, Larry Bird was a far better than average defender on defense. Look up his stats. He made 1st team all defense 2x, and 2nd team as well.
Not for nothing, Jordan couldn't guard Larry either. No shade on Mike who was a superb 1v1 defender, Bird was just too big for him to guard effectively.
@@carolehall1000 that's right. That was the reason why they never had Jordan guard him. All he did was take him to the post....., annnnddddd BUCKETS was soon to follow, lol
MJ comments are tiresome, the 1st 7 years nothing happened. After all the greats left, only then did he start winning. Larry with different teammates beat everyone, everyone. Great vid
MJ said Larry Legend is the best small forward ever better than Lebron best small forward, go check out what MJ had to say about Larry Legend go check out what Kobe said about Larry Legend Kobe had Larry Legend in his top 3
Michael Jordan put up 33.5 points per game versus Larry Bird in his career (not 40). Larry Bird averaged 26.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 28 games versus Michael Jordan in his career. Bird was 6-0 in the playoffs. Jordan could not even one game against him. Swept both times
Who cares how many points Jordan scored against Bird's Celtics. He shot the ball way more than anyone on the court. Wins are what matters. To try to act like Bird isn't in Jordan's league...smh.
One on one, what a joke. team game guys, Larry was far better at getting his team involved, it is a team sport, correct? Oh yea, how did Michael do against Larry in 2 different playoff series? Swept, Jordan could not win one.
You dont count Bird 6-0 against Jordan BUT you do count MJ 48 points per game against the Celtics? Bird and Jordan didnt mark eachother so no 1 on 1 . In actual fact on plays over those 6-0 games when MJ and Bird were directly opposed 1 on 1 its 38-33 in favour of MJ , so almost even and Larry was in his chronically bad back phase. You gusy are always about stats without looking at the facts or reasons behind those stats. Celtics still won. At the end of the day, its WHO won the game, There are sooo many sports where players on the losing team scored more points or goals individually. The fact remains MJ could not beat Larry Bird
Watch games of Bird vs. Jordan. You'll see games. Larry had better stats than Michael. It wasn't just a "Team" thing. It was a "Bird team" thing. You'll see Bird hitting game winning shots over both Pippen and Jordan. Jordan is the GOAT, but even GOATs always have their nemesis.
You can't count each individual's average during a game when it is a team game and they are not playing one-on-one so that doesn't count. Jordan had that average against the Celtics in those games not against Larry alone and Larry had that average against the Bulls as a team and not Jordan alone . I love Jordan but stop trying to find a way to erase the fact that he never beat Bird.
@@kevincusick7297 if we were talking about who was the best at each position then it could be done that way but that goes for any sport. There are way too many factors involved to crown one over everyone else. There's a lot more nuance to it then people account for.

Lose the dude in the red shirt, he makes you videos painful to watch.
No impulse control. Talk, talk, talk all over the video...every time
Jordan lost to Larry six years in a row. Larry out scored Jordon every game
Bird never defended Jordan. So that one on one comparison doesn't come into play when basketball is a team game.
React to Jordan's trash talk. Shit legendary!
Bird 6 wins Jordan 0 in playoffs. Nuff said.
Larry bird is ranked as the 4th BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN NBA HISTORY !! Behind only George Michael, Hakeem the dream & Tim Duncan. FACT !!!
Jordan was a SG
Bird was a SF
Bird didn’t directly guard Jordan you Nerds!
Bird didn't guard Jordan but Jordan was on Bird most of the time until Pippen arrived.
you guys have no clue how a TEAM works
lmao.
homeboy doesn’t know what he’s talking about, Jordan only averaged 30 points against the Celtics during Birds era, and even after.
And one on one its alot closer than you think bird was just playing to win and knew the safest way to do it
Michael Jordan Never Beat Larry Bird in The NBA Playoffs:
Bird = 6 wins
MJ = 0 wins
Yall missed a great play because you can't do UA-cam premium. Come on man.
Larry Legend was the only player MJ never got the best of Larry Legend 6 MJ 0 Larry Legend and the Celtics swept MJ 2 times in the finals 🐐☘️
@@carolehall1000 definitely agree
@@carolehall1000 that's right. That was the reason why they never had Jordan guard him. All he did was take him to the post....., annnnddddd BUCKETS was soon to follow, lol
I'd take Bird over Jordan 1v1 always.
Jordan was 0 for 6 against Bird in the playoffs. I dont care how many points you scored, if you cannot win, what is the point? Jordan never beat Bird.
Larry Legend was the only player MJ never got the best of Larry Legend 6 MJ 0 Larry Legend and Celtics swept MJ in the finals
Who cares how many points Jordan scored against Bird's Celtics. He shot the ball way more than anyone on the court. Wins are what matters. To try to act like Bird isn't in Jordan's league...smh.
nice plaque flex
Rather difficult to react to a video, if you are not paying attention to it.
You do realize that bird was not guarding Jordan bird was a forward OK just saying
One on one, what a joke. team game guys, Larry was far better at getting his team involved, it is a team sport, correct? Oh yea, how did Michael do against Larry in 2 different playoff series? Swept, Jordan could not win one.
Man yall are some real haters. Wow. This definitely ain't the page I want to see
Jordan never beat Bird
jordan ever beat bird,
It was rare when they guarded each other. And, it was 30 not 40. You guys should not bother showing videos and just talk.
You guys talk over the video to much😢
Watch games of Bird vs.
Fair enough. So there is no chance to say who the greatest of all time is
@@kevincusick7297 if we were talking about who was the best at each position then it could be done that way but that goes for any sport. There are way too many factors involved to crown one over everyone else. There's a lot more nuance to it then people account for.
Ignorance is bliss...
Yes but Larry swept Jordan 3 times
Like your content young men, but got to get your facts straight before you throw them out like that. He averaged that against Boston as a team, not Bird. MJ got buckets on all of them. Get your facts straight...
You guys calling Larry Racist is BEYOND stupid. Sorry. But he's about the least racist person on the planet.
I love the bs new new new schoolers tell how it was and used to be and why. Lol. You don’t know shit. Lebron fans lol 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Jordan was a ball hog that's why he got so many points bird was a all around player that's what makes him better
