Gothic Horror is my favorite serious genre of horror and 'Oddity' fulfilled all my expectations. Too often the horror overwhelms the gothic, but in this case, the balance was just right. The tent scene was incredibly powerful and the final scene, that some folks don't care for, I thought was wonderful. I bought the Blu-ray. Again, a fine presentation by you.

I personally didn’t give a shit about the AI, and wouldn’t have even thought about it if it wasn’t brought up by others. Thought it was a pretty neat concept and enjoyed it.
Hearing how much you loved Alien Romulus made me SO happy. The Alien Franchise is my FAVORITE thing, and I LOVED this movie. I broke my self imposed ban on theater watches for Romulus.
Signed up for the Mubi free trial you mentioned and watched The Substance last night.. seriously one of the best movies I have seen this year! I already want to rewatch it 😭
The substance best movie of the year hands down and also the most rewatchable, had 0 expectation but endend up LOVIN' it. I'm still haunted/disgusted/shocked/laughing my ass off thinking back at some scenes, can not recommend it enough!
Oddity, Romulus, and Smile 2 are the standouts for me, with honourable mentions to I Saw the TV Glow, Quiet Place Day One, and I Saw the Devil. I've yet to see Love Lies, but I look forward to it. Great year for horror, AfraAId notwithstanding, and great list as always!
@JSPRKL which is your favorite of the franchise 👀 Romulus isn't my favorite, although I had a DAMN good time watching it, but I have a theory I've been wanting to verify outside of my friend group on who likes Romulus and who doesn't.
Abigail is a kind of remake of a foreign movie called ballerina horror about a ballet teacher who teaches ballet and her daughter is a vampire who scratch that don't want to spoil it but its great
This is the value add content I need from my influencers for rea!!! I need yall to take the time and tell me what’s watchable where when cuz for whatever reason search algorithms SUCK at telling me what’s currently streaming where and I can never find what I’m looking for quickly/reliably, so I just end up scrolling or reading instead and never watch the dang movie!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who laughed during the yoga kill for exactly the same reason - it was not only too much, but it also didn't even make sense, which ended up making it not horrifying, just ridiculous.
I loved Alien Romulus and seeing it in theaters was perfect. I rented The Substance on prime and was so worth it.. that movie is crazy, definitely a good watch and had me saying “omg” in a specific scene between the two actress when they face off.
I watched the movie, and it’s fantastic! Hugh Grant’s acting kind of gives me the creeps and the whole story about religion is totally not what I expected. I love it.
I also saw Romulus in theaters when it came out and then immediately watched it when it came to streaming. I think about that movie and Oddity constantly, so good!
Smile 2 had me in a chokehold for sure! Just knowing how those movies get down, had me thinking I wasn’t getting a happy ending from the start but every minute that went by as it got worse and worse for her had me jumping out of my skin!
Thanks for this video!! I actually received an email from Paramount stating that Smile 2 was now streming and that made me happy as I really want to watch this one based off your review! I will be watching it tonight! Also, I LOVE Katheryn Newton and I enjoyed both films on this list thar she is in (but truly love her in Freaky)!
Hi Sarah, Lets be shallow, but I just wanted you to know. Your hair, make-up, nails and outfit are your best look ever. Ok now, The First Omen was the best on this list, but I haven't seen The Substance. Now I'm going to check out your other channel. Have a fantastic tomorrow and see ya next time.
Me and my boyfriend watched A Quiet Place: Day One on a plane recently, never seen the others, and we LOVED IT. went home and watched the other two the same day. We both enjoyed all of them but agree Day One is our favorite, wonder if it had to do with us seeing it first. It was tense, it was emotional, we really enjoyed how character for used it was. Extremely moving.
*Stream* was such a good surprise too, the home invasion was amazing, the slasher atmosphere was cool and the horror homenajes were so cute. Definitely recommend it
Abigail was the most fun horror film I've watched this year. The comedy in it added a nice touch to the horror. I liked MaXXXine more than Pearl. Maxine's character arc was well done, imo. She chose a different path than Pearl when she came into certain forks in the road and I found that highly interesting. Cuckoo had a few of the biggest scares I've seen this year. The way it uses both sound and visuals was amazing.
Great list! Id say Azrael is my fav religious horror this year. Practical effects definitely rival "In a Violent Nature". Lastly, your hair looks PHENOMINAL!
Love this as an overview of a lot of 2024 horror as well (I caught these all in theaters so i probably wont rewatch anytime soon except maybe oddity). 2024 was such a mixed bag for me, I have mixed feelings about so many of the big releases and all of my favorites actually turned out to be movies I had NO idea about (oddity, the substance, heretic, the first omen, tv glow) until right before I saw them. All of my anticipated ones on the other hand disappointed me, every single one ahhhh. I still have hopes for Nosferatu though, I hope we can end this year strong!
7:22 i didn't used to cry over any horror movies only a few in 19 years of horror movies I've watched, but now i cry if its a distressed mother or harmed child because I became a mother.
It took me a full 40 minutes of suffering through AfrAID asking "where is Megan Fox?" before I realized that I thought I was watching Subservience, which I then watched and discovered that not only is it basically the same movie from the same year, but it's just as bad as AfrAId.
Azrael is another religious horror film this year too, different from the others but still religious. The Substance is really going mainstream, it's probably going to be nominated for an Oscar which is crazy to say.
I am so glad someone else shares the same opinion on Quiet Place Day one. It was good but i definitely expected the horror element rather than the drama aspect. Also, definitely definitely watch Azrael, it was pretty good and it seems like a movie you would really enjoy.

Late Night with the Devil was definitely a limited release in Canada and we only got to see it because we live in MTL and it was available at a local theatre so it was packed. Blink Twice isn't considered a horror, but I consider it a horror and it left my partner and I talking about it for days but I def have to say that if you're a hyper sensitive person that it may not be for you; it was a lot to process.
