I have like over two hunferd Quail here on my goat farm. They go through the goat manure, and horse manure all the time. They stay here, because nobody hunts them.
The ENTIRE reason why I first got chickens!! I spend so much $$$ on sprays and predators and what have you, then I got chickens. Just 15, but that first summer saw a 80% reduction in flies. No longer was my weepy mare wearing a fly mask that had hundreds of flys on it. She was now able to go without any mask at all! Chickens are awesome.
That's unfortunate. I'm six minutes into the video and it's all about "the factors." While what he's saying is correct, I would at least expect some solid numbers based on factors -- just toss a few examples out there, or provide your own situation as a baseline. Oh well.
I am from Pakistan. I am going to start goat farming. I used to watch your videos. Its very helpful for me. I am going to start buying goats after 2 months. I want meat farming Take care and stay blessed
Someone in my town is going to build a goat processing plant. I'm thinking I could put some goats on my property to make a littel extra money. I only have about 3 or 4 acres to work with. My brother has some acres too but haven't talked to him about this goat thing yet. Maybe it's just a pipe dream hahahaha.
Watching these homesteading videos or so much better then watching anything on TV. And so much more educational I don't live in the country yet but I find today's video very informative and made a lot of sense to me. I thought you did a good job outlining and explaining things to consider when raising goats. Thx for sharing
Even though this video didn't precisely answer the question, it was probably the answer people need to hear. And I learned a lot of other things from it. Thank you!
picky eaters? are you kidding me, my goats eat the ivy off the side of buildings, bark off the trees, Thorn bushes I even caught a couple of them chewing on my firewood
We already know it just depends. You have 110 acres, you said...how many goats do you have on your 110 acres? could you do more? Could you double your number? We don't need a video to tell us it depends since we already know that and we don't need a video if we just have to play with it and find out for ourselves... I appreciate the time you put into making this video, but for anyone else who wants some ballpark numbers, my neighbor has 35 pygmy goats on 10 acres with a large pole barn for shelter and some old scrap iron beams and girders for climbing. This is panhandle Florida and the goats keep the grass short 100% of the time. The herd has been self sustaining for about 20 years with little input. Another neighbor has about 20 medium sized meat goats on 10 acres and rotates them in 3 plots every week or two. The grass gets about a foot tall then the goats come in for a week, then they move to the next pen for a week.
I love your responses to your fans, most don't recognize or respond to very many viewers comments/ questions. I got 2 Kiko crosses yesterday. , have them on a little over an acre of Florida woods with lots of Blueberry, Gallberry, Palmetto etc. I saw you go from 146k to 147k today !
😂@7:31 mark when the flies became to much had me giggling. I’ve been a long time viewer and this just made my day for so many reasons but the reminder we all grow and learn and get better with lessons and life . Y’all page is amazing and I enjoy watching. Thanks for the giggle and the reminder to not take things so seriously. The growth your family has had and you have had since being able to work from home and the increase and abundance The Lord has provided is a great teaching if it’s own. For me today it was in this replay as I learn more about goats and decide if they will be any where in my future for my family. So many lessons beyond just about goats. I enjoyed this trip down memory lane and the laughter it brought. The flies get me mid summer to 😂
Hey Daniel it's Billy over at Far-Mar Homestead in S.E. Kansas. Were on the dairy side of the goat family. We raise Purebred Alpine goats and have had great luck with the milk production and love the mothering skills of our Alpine does. Great video and good advice for new comers to the goat raising experience. A lot of people in our area are hooked on raising the Boer meat goats but we have found that nitch in the market in our area where a good quality goat milk will bring a good profit margin. Keep up the good work on the videos.
Thank you for this video. I might be moving to Arkansas on a 1/2 acre. It has three sheds. One is going to be for my husbands tools. The second is for a woman that is like a sister to me to live in. The third is for us to live in. I am going to be running chickens and goats together. My husband is going to build me a shed for them all to be in at night. This video answered my question perfectly.
boss....my house is on a square 1.5 acre with the house in the center. i want to fence the entire yard and put goats on the land. just let them run everywhere in the yard. im thinking it would keep the grass down. how many can i have? and is it a good idea to let them run the entire yard?
2-8 goats per acre depending on grazing goats are browsers 21 day pdk rotation approx for no worms goats need some roughage in diet and goats love to climb things. Goats major escape artists. High netting fence and top wire a hotwire
Daniel you had me cracking up with the flies. I got such a kick watching you get mad. I hate flies too. I used to service dairies years back and the flies were horrible. I could not get in or out of my truck fast enough to keep them from getting in. Every time I went to the dairies I'd have hundreds of flies in my cab when leaving. NUTS!!!
Every 3rd comment is about Bear, as well it should be. He is sooo cool, so is Bella. Houston, Bear and Bella should have a channel themselves ! Thumbs up !
Bout to buy my first piece of property and looking at some goats. I'm looking at about 24acres in the South east Norther Mississippi area. I got a nice size lake on property and I want to use minimal money but make the property make use of them. Good video.
I've got a place in Tombstone Arizona. It's not that I want goats just to eat the brush (if they even would). What I'd like to do is get the coyotes to eat the brush. It's the least they could do for eating all the cats in the area.

Hey, how's it going? I know this is older? I was just wondering if you had an experience with goats and High tensil fence. I have a 450 acre tree farm, Most of the farm is split up with high tensil fence from when we had cattle.
I want to raise meat goats and sell the kids and the meat. And hope to turn a profit. I have just under 3 acres. My new home used to be a small cattle farm and is set up with stalls and feeders and electric fencing . Goats seems like a good start for us to get into the farm life. Boers and Kikos Are what I’ve been told I should start with. I’ve been researching all I can possibly look up. Any advice you can give me would be great! Great video!
I have 2 questions. 1. our goal is to keep 10-12 acres of field low. How many goats can do that? 2. Is your dog, Bear, a herd protecter? If so, what breed is he? So three questions lol.
Nice information thanks as you said that it all depends on the climate of the area that we live in and we can make changes depending upon the climatic conditions and grass growth
So 6 large, dozen small/acre, provided you have pasture to rotate and hay fields to stock up for the winter. Theoretically if all your land is airable you could get as many as 300+ but that leaves little room for error and looks like it would become a PITA after a while.
Dan between the flies and the Male goat in the back I don't know what to laugh about sorry Dan your message is coming across loud and clear but IT IS FUNNY !!!
Video idea. Shelter for rotational grazing. I was trying to think along the lines of a chicken tracter, but up sized for goats with three walls. I need shelter for about 15 head. Any ideas?
Hey, so if I take my 10 acres and divide it up into 2 acres sections, how often should I rotate the goats? Thanks for another great video. Have a blessed day.
Some folks rotate daily, but I've always been told you need to rotate at least every 3-4 weeks to stay ahead of the parasite life cycle. Most worms that goats struggle with have a 28 day life cycle so if you move the goats out of an area before the next cycle of eggs can hatch you don't run the risk of them pickup up the newly hatched parasites from the forage.
@@ArmsFamilyHomestead that's great to know! And it makes total sense. We just lost a goat to what we believe were barberpole worms. My first thought was to move the rest of the boys to a new area, sounds like i was thinking right. Thanks for the reply!
Interesting content. I’m shopping for wooded acreage in Texas and am considering animal husbandry. I think goats might be perfect. Oh I love your dog and Immediately saw where he got his name from.☺️
Is there a way to use/raise goats that don't require them to be near your home. I'm looking to buy some property (35-55 acres) a mile or two from home and want to use a heard of goats to help clear the area in small 1-5 acres increments so the land is more accessible/and useable for hunting and perhaps homesteading. My big concern is coyotes and the health of the goats. If I can solve the coyote problem is it possible to have many of the feeding/shelter options to run semi-automatically so that they don't require a great deal of attention EVERY day? I'm not looking to do full-time goat farming but I also don't want to treat the animals inhumanely. Ideally, I'd be able to use them for meat in addition to just clearing the property of browse. Thanks. I found this video very helpful.
Yes, that is my priority, to control brush on over 35 acres. Another thing to consider is how many goats can you transport. 😉 I do not have a truck or a trailer just yet. So I was looking at how many goats can I transport in my Pathfinder. I think 2 is my max. So I was looking at getting 2 bred does so that I could have a maximum of 8 goats. I think that would about be my limit. Of course, what's the chances of both does having triplets?
Can you chain a goat so won't have get electric fence? Just up here where I live on is approx 6 acres. Further back 39 more but it's just large and med trees and bushy in few places
Sooooo.... northeast Texas, 70 acres, never been cut, covered in old growth hardwoods and underbrush. Thornvines , sweet gum and cedar bush. I need underbrush gone, for both fire suppression and hunting. Advice?
wanting to clear a neglected farm. There are small to 6' cedars growing all over the pastures. I want to clean up pasture to eventually bring in cattle. Have you calculated Pounds per Acre - I would like to do intensive grazing and possible moves daily.. this means depending on existing forage I could run much smaller paddocks (depending on the number of goats) but based on weight per acre might make it a bit easier to gauge. What say you? thanks for the video
Minor aside comment: on this opening, the two most featured presenters, Daniel and Houston, are the only ones NOT smiling! Hmmm, wonder why he picked this take?
I want goats as pets and to cross-graze with my horses, because horses are picky grass eaters and leave a lot of "weeds" behind. I have a real blackberry problem.
A good mid-sized dual purpose goat is a Kinder goat. It's a cross between a Nubian and a Pigmy. Excellent personality too. 5 Acres and a Dream, the blog
How many goats can you fit on the head of a pin, if the goats were real small? Or , if you lived in Ontario Canada, which I guess would be like Vermont ish, how much land would I need for meat goats like yours? Could I at least grow a few meat goats a year without paying a fortune on food?
I have a TON of natural forage and will want a handful of goats 🐐 to mainly clear the land. Would be nice to process them for meat possibly as well. Any recommendations for a 122 acre property with high forage in North Carolina like what breed and will I need to feed them hay or can they just eat forage?
Hello! My husband and I are looking into using goats for fire abatement in California. Do you have any resources to recommend as far as the day to day logistics of taking care of goats and what a day in the life of a fire abatement goat business is like?
I just bought 4.4 acres half is wooded. I'm also retired not a big income tho. I'm thinking goats but at the cost of every thing now with this pandemic. Was unexpected none of my property is fenced. 6 ft t post 5.50 a pc .I've had boer goats before you need a strong fence for heavy breeds they like to rub down the fence trial and error for sure . I had the wrong fence for thoes guys I sold that place after a big divorce.. yep single now so I want to homestead by myself. Start again but hobby wise now .I enjoy animals it just plain enjoyable. Chicken pen is almost done I've gotten about 12 already got started late in the year because just got the new place about month ago. Nothing here but the small house and chicken's coop I built.. I bought some chicken's about half grown at flea market lost three already one to predator two came up sick. So working the kinks out of the flock. Trying apple cider vinegar in thier water suppose to help alot. Thing is I'm deaf so I didn't catch alot you were saying I went to the commits got ideal what you were discussing . Last time I had to buy hay it wasn't cheap I can imagine the price per bail now. Which I got pretty good stand of grass pasture .in my location about January hay is gonna be must so gonna need hay probably 4 to 5 months but I definitely want milk goats . Goat milk is the best I've tasted rich flavor. I've seen some mean o billy goats I've been chase up a fence couple times in my life dont ever under estimate a goats strength . I've tried to grab some of the big goats by horn to hold them off . I did for about 5 minutes i climbed the fence to get away. So every one heads up when you going to buy goats watch out for old billy i promise you if your a stranger he's watching you.
Just a tip with the Flies, put a few chickens in with your goats. The chickens will eat the larvae off of the manure before they become Flies.
that is a good idea..
Brother make a good point.
It really works, I do that
I have like over two hunferd Quail here on my goat farm. They go through the goat manure, and horse manure all the time. They stay here, because nobody hunts them.

goat farming pakistan pakistan You can, but not for long
You still haven’t answered the question, what a waste of time.

Great advice!!
