Was Dorian Yates At His Best 3 Weeks *BEFORE* The 1993 Olympia?

  • This is a picture comparison between Dorian Yates and himself. Just 3 weeks before the 1993 Mr.Olympia Dorian did a photo shoot that shocked the bodybuilding world. In my opinion Dorian had more than enough conditioning and much more size in the version so lets compare it with the actual event in 93.
    #Dorian #Dorian Yates

I remember thinking to myself as a young kid in ‘93, when I saw the photo shoot pics in Flex magazine.. “This is the most ultimate buffness in the entire universe” Now 27 years later, looking at the pics in retrospect here on Marx Max Muscle, I’m thinking the exact same thing..

Dorian didn't have Flex's lines, but he did have a futuristic, cyborg-like look that gave him an ice-cold and intimidating charisma and that's why he's my favorite bodybuilder.

Something to take into account black and white photo's are going to create shadow which will accentuate the muscles. Notice the color pics that are darker show more definition, seperation etc. If hiw Olympia pics were shot in black and white it would be mind blowing.

yes for sure black and white makes a difference partly due to more contrast of light, though it's clear here he was smaller and less cut/defined for the contest than in the B&W shots. His weight was less as well, though looking at him is enough to tell

@@myflesh10 it was worth it because the next best guy (flex) was 218 pounds but with godlike shape and aesthetics which is why he was 2nd to begin with. You really have to put it in the context of the early 90s, there weren't many 240-250+ competitors other than Yates and Paul Dillet at the time. Only during 1996-1997 did some others like Nasser and Fux blow up and started appearing. Why would Yates show up at 270 pounds and not in the best condition if he could show up at 257 pounds absolutely shredded out of his mind and put an end to any controversy?

Agreed. 3wks out his body looks so much better. Best back (top to bottom) ever seen on any bodybuilder to grace the stage.

no they don't, 90s bb-ers started and ended their poses with the upper body, nowadays bb-ers are sitting into the legs for 5 sec before even spreading their lats (back lat) or beginning to pose their back/biceps in the back double.
There is an obvious difference between a non shredded glute and a non flexed glute. Yates didn't contract his glutes at all times during posing, but when he did you could see that he was in crazy condition. Besides, nobody gets so shredded and dry literally everywhere other than the glutes. Look at his hamstrings and lower back...does it make sense for you that Yates had arguably the most conditioned lower back (christmas tree) but his glutes weren't all that conditioned? come on now.@@canevas1017

As much as I always liked that black and white photo shoot if he hit the stage like that we would probably be talking now about how poor his legs were that year and how overly massive his up body was along with the lack of details in his arms. So yes we can all admire how huge he was 3 weeks out and maybe he over dieted a bit but he was known for the ultra hard look and he was just following his own plan, head to head I think I would score the win to his contest look over the massive 3 week out look, just my opinion though

Imagine a mid point. 10 days out and 10 pounds between these two. Still full but more detail in the legs and back. This physique is terryfying though.

even his biggest haters like Shawn Ray (at the time) knew it was a wrap. I clearly remember Ray saying "Dorian Yates showed up in 1993, transformed bodybuilder that was unbeatable".

Look at his hand/wrist positioning in the side-by-side pictures for each pose...they're always identical. Talk about having your pose down to a science. I guarantee the slight flexion or rotation of one wrist compared to the other was intentional, strategic, and probably reflexive by this point.

Just from first scan/sighting Yates peaked 3 weeks to early, his pics on the left are brutally mind blowing. By Olympia time he is still incredible but lacking the monstrous edge that his 3 weeks ‘away’ condition has.

The left photo at 4:07 was the first shot I ever saw of him, and I thought he looked hard as a concrete wall; so hard and thick if I walked into him by mistake I would a bounced off.

this should put this to rest, the 93 pics are overrated and he was not stage ready
many people said dennis james looked like a champ in the gym, what matter is how you look on stage and dorian was better on stage than these gym pics

    • @MikeG82
      @MikeG82 4 роки тому

@TheLusianPopa people argue those gym pics are his best look ever, they aren't hence them being overrated
his arms and chest look fuller, everything else looks smooth compared to his 93 olympia body

I find when you drop body fat you lose the most muscle in your ungifted areas first. In dorians case his chest/biceps always went down when he came in conditioned. I think he still would have won Olympia if he just came in less conditioned with more size ?

I've aways said condition is judged too much. Anyone can diet down, but not everyone can put on that much mass, it is called bodybuilding after all. It is totally wrong that a small guy wins over a big guy just because of condition.
