I can't believe I went years without the cruise control feature because the buttons had broken off. I finally replaced them today and it was so easy! Great video!
This was really helpful. Mine had a few more wires to attach and thread through - the old wires were completed baked and brittle. A little more difficult to thread the wires around the steering wheel and behind the steel mounts than this video indicated. Happy that it all went back together and works!
Thanks so much for this video! My 2000 Ranger's cruise control buttons disintegrated a long time ago. I just yesterday received my shipment of the new cruise control buttons I ordered on eBay, and needed to see how to remove the old ones so that I can install the new ones. Your video is perfect as a step-by-step guide. Can't thank you enough!
Very good video- If your buttons are just broken you dont need to remove the wires, Simply plug in the replacement into the existing harness. Also do NOT disconnect a functioning airbag. Even with the battery removed it can be very dangerous
Hey Dan... gr8 video my man ! Your attention to detail is king ! Would love to see a cut away to a tools list in the beginning in your videos. Just a suggestion. Peace out
awesome stuff!! my ranger dosent have cruise control but it is always interesting to see people working on a them (I I have only had minor wear and tear issues with mine always looking forward to the next upload !
Nice. I had to do this to my 98 Mountaineer a year ago. It's been a good car. 305,000 miles on original 4.0 SOHC, so I can't complain. Hasn't had any timing work done to it either.
Doing this on my Durango soon, also doing the radio buttons, the right side one popped apart into my lap one day, and the right cruise burrows are loose.
Thank you very much for your help, the replacement was a success. Although if you put it all together, and the horn honks when hooking up the battery, then your air bag mounting bolt is tightened down touching a piece of the ribbon cable-creating a short that honks the horn. Dont do this, lol.
I am replacing my cruise buttons as soon as they arrive. I am going to use the existing wiring harness instead of using the knockoff wires (Made in USA vs CHINA). This saves time and streamlines the installation by leaving the horn button in place.
Thanks for the video. do you know if the process is similar for the cruise control buttons in a Mercury Grand Marquis? cruise control works, the buttons dont. lol.
Daniel, if I remove the cruise control permanently will my horn still work? I don’t see how they would be connected besides going through the clock spring but until they reach that, idk how they’d be connected.
Would like to see how you put the new wiring in. as I need to replaced the wire. But on my 97 it looks like I have to remove the steering wheel to remove the wire.
Ok, my daughter left the windows down on my 99 Lincoln town car. And it rained, I mean it poured. Got the wet moldy smell out, but the cruise and horn buttons dont work but the other side does, the fan, volume, mode and such works. Any way to just take those apart and clean them?
Love how easy your instructions are! My on/off button accidentally was pulled off by a long keychain. It looks like lt could be just pushed back in, but I cannot seem to get it in! Is it even possible or MUST I abut new switches and replace like in this video??
On my crown vic I took the switches apart and soldered the new circuit board in. Didn't want to screw with the wheel. It is not lighted like the explorer so there are only 3 or 4 wires.
Thanks for walking me through this. My question is; why didn't you use the existing cable harness and just plug that in to the new switches? Is it really a safety problem? It certainly would be easier to do so. Great going. I have a 98 green Ranger so I'm loving your videos.
That's what I had to end up doing. There was no way to get everything out without removing the steering wheel or breaking the trim panel that the two plastic plugs go into.
Our very reliable local garage replaced the cruise control switches on my 1999 Mazda B4000 pickup, but going home I noticed that the backs of the switches get really, really hot. I checked to make sure the old safety recall work had been done (2009), but disconnected the battery because I'm now nervous about driving it. Have had my baby for nearly 23 years and went through two engine fires and don't want another one, or to lose steering. I know squat about car maintenance (little old lady here). Any idea why those switches would be hot? The new switches are the proper part number. Will try to reach the dealership next week but repair appointments are weeks out. Really good video, by the way.
I find it most difficult to have the following questions answered. My question is Unrelated to your Video! How to reconnect a 1998 Ford e350 Econoline Cruise Control Servo Speed Control Actuator Wire Cable? & Does the Actuator wire pull the the Actuator wire counter clockwise or: Does the Actuator with Wire rotate clockwise? Please help or refer-Thank you & Your Videos are very Instructive.
HI, I need some help. i have 2011 MK4 ford Mondeo , its cruise control stopped working where as Speed limiter still works fine.I did initial cleaning of the switch but it did not help, I took it to a local auto electric garage and he charged me near 200 GBP to diagnose the fault that both 'Cruise control switch' and 'contact angle sensor' needs to be changed and it will thereafter needs Programming of the control and this will cost me almost 600GBP, which I think is a lot of money. Can you help me with some advise regarding a more affordable solution please. Thank you.
Lol. Loved it! I'm a GIRL on a LOW budget so I ordered new cruise control buttons for my 2003 Ford explorer...about $16 on Amazon. They got here yesterday...then I thought I better yt how to install. Found this. Lol. I just have to replace the buttons not the harness so it looks like it will go much easier. I wish I had your impact wrench! Thanks for really helping!!
Well, I tried, but on my 2005 Sport Trac there was just no way to get the old ribbon cables out even when I unplugged them from the button units, without breaking the plastic trim panel. So, I ended up just unplugging the ribbon cable from both the old and new button sets and plugging the existing cable into the new buttons. Works properly.
You can use a T-50 to pull entire wheel off... doing that will make it so u do not have to remove horn buttons and gives you 360 around wheel... 1-a auto makes a great video on the subject
Thank you for a great video. I need to replace mine, the rubber on the buttons is breaking off, and the rubber is sticky to the touch like glue. when it gets hot from the sun, and also for some reason, the dash light which says "Speed Cntrl" does not work but yet the bulb doesn't appear to be burned out or its filament look broken. Anybody know why the dash light doesn't work?
Worked fine. But getting wiring out from behind the steering wheel brace and the new wiring back in is not a easy as you say. It took 4 hands. Thanks a lot!
drat ! ya passed over the part where you unhooked / & hooked the wires up under the horn switches ....It would have been a help to see what we are supposed to be pulling on in there .on to the next video...
I have done Exactly as You have Shown,,, Every thing went Smooth,, I let My Truck warm up and took it for a test drive to check the cruz control,, tried it at 30 40 50 60 70 mph and it wouldn't engage,, only the Green speed cont. would flash about every 10 seconds,, all the wires were solid connections Horn turn signals everything works ?
Experienced the same symptoms on my 2002 Ford Ranger. It is the pressure switch on top of the Brake Master Cylinder. It's the round device with 2 leads next to the brake lines. Replace it and the Cruise will work
I found a weird bug with the volume and auto audio equalization in the iMovie 10.1.5 update, so just a heads up if you use that feature that it tends to be very buggy with split clips as the algorithm is different. I've found that a couple of my clips in my recent project that I'm working on got blasted in volume and it's hard to make it work so be careful.
Help please! I did this repair and followed it to a T, everything went smoothly. BUT a green light now flashes "speed cont" in my dash. It blinks about every 5 seconds. I'm in park, and haven't driven since doing the repair. It's driving me insane. What do I do
My truck did the same constant digging too until I realized there's a button by the key you have to push to turn the key back all the way. It's a tiny lever above the ignition key slot. Push it forward and rotate the key back 1/8th of a turn and it won't beep at you anymore. Thanks for the video! I hope doing this fixes my cruise control.
I can't believe I went years without the cruise control feature because the buttons had broken off. I finally replaced them today and it was so easy! Great video!

THANK YOU! You make it very understandable & easy to do. All your reminders are extremely helpful.
Very good video- If your buttons are just broken you dont need to remove the wires, Simply plug in the replacement into the existing harness. Also do NOT disconnect a functioning airbag. Even with the battery removed it can be very dangerous
Thanks for the great video. Followed along perfectly and got some new buttons in my Ranger!
Thank You! I just got new controls and I was worried about the air bag.. got it now! Thanks again! Very helpful!
Always happy to see these man, i love working on vehicles but when i dont feel like doing it ill gladly watch someone else lol
Haha, I love the head/steering wheel banging segment.
Thanks for the video! I just got my replacements today..
Hey Dan... gr8 video my man ! Your attention to detail is king !
Would love to see a cut away to a tools list in the beginning in your videos.
Just a suggestion.
Peace out
awesome stuff!! my ranger dosent have cruise control but it is always interesting to see people working on a them (I I have only had minor wear and tear issues with mine always looking forward to the next upload !
i followed these steps but now my horn doesn't work, any help
Nice video. Very helpful!
Great video very well explained..
your good at mechanical stuff I used to be in auto tech at school in my sophomore year :)
I never thought to replace the buttons on my Ranger. They turned to goo years ago. Thanks for the help!!
Repair complete. Thanks!!
Cool video!
Lol I love you sense of humor! Keep up the good work
DindaluLP I love yew cents of hughmer

Helpful - thank you
Love the humor!
Doing this on my Durango soon, also doing the radio buttons, the right side one popped apart into my lap one day, and the right cruise burrows are loose.
I was looking for instruction on a 06 Ford escape. Hope it is as easy as the ranger. I will keep looking

I just replaced my cruise control buttons and I'm having the horn problem! Air bag mounting bolt? You mean the final two bolts that go in?
Thanks for the great video. What video editor did you use? I need to look into that.
Great video! Is this the same disassembly/assembly for a 1997 Ranger?
Good video

Do the aftermarket buttons light up like the factory ones?
Love the humor 😂
Good job thanks
Haha that last sentence reminds me of Scotty :D
Page him on his channel
Daniel, if I remove the cruise control permanently will my horn still work? I don’t see how they would be connected besides going through the clock spring but until they reach that, idk how they’d be connected.
The last step is very important and critical for this repair~~
You don't need to throw the crappy old buttons on the ground, but it helps!
Would like to see how you put the new wiring in. as I need to replaced the wire. But on my 97 it looks like I have to remove the steering wheel to remove the wire.

Would this work for the 03 Ford expedition XLT as well?? I changed out the buttons but happens! Still doesn't work! Do I need to change the sensor?!
Thanks 👍

Same here-ordered a used one off of e-Bay-wish me luck-i've already broken two of them. The little clips just love to break.
Are the oem parts lighted?
I got mine from a Pick-n-Pull but the one I got it from have the ground wire on the right side does that matter
Lol. Great video. Best out there thanks much

Does it matter which terminal to disconnect?
DanielJaegerFilms I have a 1997 Ranger, but can only find the speed control buttons for a 1998 and up. Any ideas?
do this work with a stick shift ford ranger

I think you should be called the Carmedy Guy. Incorporating humor with things we actually want to know. Jokes all along the way :-)
Dose this work for 1993 Aerostar there are same thing?
You should check out Chris Fix's video about re-rapping steering wheels with leather/vinyl. You could fix that steering wheel!
Is the horn part of the crise control ??

how you check the cruise control switches?
What if my new buttons wires aren't long enough to wrap around through the plastic?
easy peasy.............Thx

John john Oj I’m wondering the same thing for mine, you posted your comment 4 months ago. Did you ever repair them?

The comedy is comedic in this comical vijeo
what's a Ford cruze?
Link to buttons
2004 does not have the 2 access points to remove steering wheel that is shown🤨 in the video.
You could have had some fun with this and put a JY airbag in there and had it blow up at an appropriate time!

You did not show routing the new wiring harness .
where to buy buttons ?
Go to E-Bay-also,you can buy the metal ones, but i've heard their quality is so-so.

Sean Sapp did you bang your head?
Why don't you work at that rental company anymore???
also near the end he slam his head on the wheel
the chime doesn't annoy me one bit idk why
are you sure you're even human?
hycron1234 ya
Man that is one mangled steering wheel. Looks like the driver sits there and wrings it in rush hour or something.
Perhaps he tried getting breakfast after 11:30.
Once Upon a Dashcam that's just common for Ford steering wheels to do that
Mine is 10x worse.

Show running the wires would of been helpful, not sure why you prioritized replacing the bolts and screws.👎
lole.
