i know this isnt related to the video but when im using the pmdg 737 i can use LNAV fine but VNAV wont turn on ive filled in the route, position, take off and N1 limit info is there anything else i need to put in for Vnav to work
Did you enter the performance info, so the gross weight, and ZFW etc. in the PERF page? If not, a VNAV path cannot be calculated and you won't see those speed and altitude indications next to waypoints in the LEGS page.
Cool video for rather beginners. I think that you could add one tip and that is:„be always prepared in advance“. I dont know if it is correct real world proccedure but in some aircrafts you begin your landing preparation when crossing 10 000ft. You hit landing lights, you set minimums, approach speed, you obtain atis information, set course on both sides, set autobrake, use ils frequency if doing ILS approach, setting ignition to cont. Then your job is quite simple slowing down airplane, using flaps and descending to ils approach altitude - this altitude also should be reached about 7-12nm in front of the ils threshold. Then there is only speedbrake armed and gear down. Happy landings! I'am looking forward for more vatsim videos. And if you are not flying here join the royal dutch virtual airline it is awesome here. crew.royaldutchvirtual.com/ Cheers!
Absolutely true, I think with everything in aviation preparation is key, so yes you really need to take the time to prepare everything in advance so you don't have to worry about all that anymore when doing the actual landing. Thanks for watching! :)
I've been flying for a year now, my smoothest landing was -32 fpm, but when i fly on vatsim everything is okay during the flight, but on approach i have to change 3 frequencies and talk which is kind of hard with an accent, and also be focused on the landing. As we know flying is a 2 pilot job, but i physically cant have a second person to help. Do you know what to do in that situation, because without vatsim i do pretty safe and smooth landings, when i fly on vatsim i do 200+ fmp landings. :(
My opinion for the First tip: When I cut the throttle and set flaps to full the aircraft descends too much and sometimes I miss the airport. Plus, if I don't miss the airport, I ussually have a bad vertical speed resulting in destruction of gear and crashing the airplane. Comment me an answer, please.
In that case you just need more throttle, so give the airplane more power and airspeed so that you are able to maintain your altitude without descending too much.
Excellent, excellent vid, thanks! I am having real trouble with landings and these tips are great. My problem is basically the stable approach part ... flying A2A C182 I find it difficult to keep the aircraft lined up and end up on the grass more than the runway!! Do you have any tips for horizontal rather than vertical stability?
Thank you! Hmm, are you flying in crosswinds? If so, practice first in no winds of all. Of course, because you are flying a single-engine prop, you will also experience the results of the "P-factor", you might want to look that term up some time. You will have to continously adjust for that in order to stay on centerline. And as always, keep looking outside whenever you can, especially when flying VFR. As soon as you look into the cockpit you will have probably drifted away a bit already ;)
newbie here. After reading tip 2 i remembered that some big airplanes dump fuel so they can balance weight and be lighter for touchdown etc. Do you need to do that in FSX? Ive never heard anyone talk about it but i just wanted to ask.
Hi, fuel dumping only happens in emergency situations like a medical emergency. They dump the fuel to get passed the maximum landing weight. For a normal flight, your flight planning tool (like simbrief.com) should have calculated the right amount of fuel for that flight, so you should not be ending up with too much fuel in the first place ;).
When I am ready to touch the ground of the airport, the airplane goes too fast although i have put speed break, auto brake and flaps, what i have to do?
When I want the nose down a little bit on landings should I set elevator trim up or down? What I mean when Im on My way to land, the nose is about 5-10 degrees up but Im loosing altitude so im on My way to the runway, but i want My plane straight and loosing a little altitude, how should I set the trim to My aircraft? I use iFly 737 and PMDG 777
Speed will control your sink rate when you're level. Try reducing your speed. Remember that you should have a nose up attitude when approaching the runway.
You need to use your flaps to add more lift on the wings allowing you to have more of an nose-down attitude. Normally in the 737 the nose is pitched up during landing a little bit, so that is very normal. If your pitch is too high, you are either not using enough flaps or your speed is too low, because by pitching up your aircraft is struggling to maintain altitude.
What monitor do you have? Looking for s good one for fsx with lots of addons like Rex simulations, aerosoft and ORBX. Are there any good priced you suggest? Thanks
Wouldn't recommend S-turns, as that makes the approach very unstable. I usually fly an orbit (a circle) to loose some extra altitude while making that 360 degree turn.
no, think of it like this: Is it easier to brake your car when you have a fully packed trunk or when you are alone in the car with nothing in the trunk. You will stop faster when you are by urself
to get the dme indication you have to set the vor or ils frequency. You will see dme displayed in the vor gauge. A way to know if you are flying the proper glide pad is by multiplying your altitude above terrain by 3. For example, in an field at see level, If you are flying at 4000ft and you are waiting to start a 3° glide path you do 4x3=12. At 12 miles you should start your descent. How to aim a 3° approach all the way down just multiply your ground speed by 5. For an easy exaple, If your approach speed is 100kts, multiply 100x5=500. 500 ft/min would be the vertical speed to get to the runway
I like the tip about trimming. I wouldn’t have thought of that. Great job as always!
Thanks! :D

Hey, wanted to ask if you're still up for the shared cockpit thing in X-Plane. If you're not interested, that's perfectly fine.
See my message ;)

Okay that makes sense. Tnx
Also, I believe that the 737 is unable to dump fuel. Pretty dumb design in case of emergency. Please don't quote me on that I'm probably wrong :)

HI, thank for your video. What is the airplane in the tip 7 which is landing ? Payware airplane ?
You're welcome! It's the Embraer 135 by Feelthere, payware.
very usefull tips! can yo tell me please what is the right trim setting or how to calculate it on a 738, thanks!
ISR737_FSX it is something you will have to get a feel for. because it is constantly changeing due to a lot of variables.
very useful tips mate!...;)

Make sure the brakes are actually working and that the throttles are cut or if necessary in reverse?
Great vid but you should update specs of computer in about for your channel
Thanks, I will do that! :)
Nice video weer. Kan ik een keer een vatsim vlucht meevieren?

Speed will control your sink rate when you're level. Try reducing your speed. Remember that you should have a nose up attitude when approaching the runway.
You need to use your flaps to add more lift on the wings allowing you to have more of an nose-down attitude. Normally in the 737 the nose is pitched up during landing a little bit, so that is very normal. If your pitch is too high, you are either not using enough flaps or your speed is too low, because by pitching up your aircraft is struggling to maintain altitude.
+AviationPro i know, i use correct speed and flaps, but theres not a lovely landing, because the nose is to far up, so how do I do so its flat?
Then you are probably too heavy, it should work. Make sure you check your weight and balance as in the tip I gave you in this video ;)
Nice! Do you know where I can find proper checklists for the pmdg 737?
Thanks! Maybe on Avsim or smartcockpit ;)
What monitor do you have? Looking for s good one for fsx with lots of addons like Rex simulations, aerosoft and ORBX. Are there any good priced you suggest?
Thanks
It's a Phillips Brilliance 226CL LED monitor, I believe that one is available for a pretty good price and indeed it's a very good monitor :).
Thx ...
You're welcome!
thank you so much you made me understand that ;)
You're welcome! Depends on which aircraft you are flying. Usually the VOR indicator or Navigation Display will display the DME readings.
aah and i must put its frequency right ?
Yes
aah ok thank you
What game is this on and can you send me a link to the piper aircraft used in the first tip? Thabks
It's not a game, it's a simulator called Prepar3D. Aircraft is from Carenado.com.
3:07 can't you do S turns if your too high?
Wouldn't recommend S-turns, as that makes the approach very unstable. I usually fly an orbit (a circle) to loose some extra altitude while making that 360 degree turn.
AviationPro ok. Thanks for the advice.
Does an bigger aircraft easily slow down when it touched the rune way?
No, usually the bigger the aircraft, the heavier it is, the harder it is to slow it down.
no, think of it like this: Is it easier to brake your car when you have a fully packed trunk or when you are alone in the car with nothing in the trunk. You will stop faster when you are by urself
please where can I find the DME indication and how can i know that i reach the DME required ?
to get the dme indication you have to set the vor or ils frequency. You will see dme displayed in the vor gauge. some typos in my comment, sorry but the auto corrector is set in spanish :d
plzz tell me how do you prepare a flight plan???
Usually using simbrief.com ;)
Good tips! Here's my tip, change that battery in the smoke detector
+David A Haha, I tried to avoid it as much as possible. Unfortunately I had to wait for my landlord to fix this, but it's finally fixed now ;)

I remember my autoland on my default 737 nosedived my aircraft onto the ground and landed nose first. I can say humans make better landings
