- I visit the infamous Veronicas Strip in Playa De Las Americas, Tenerife - twice on the same day.
A walk during the day where we see the strip in the sunlight, closed & relatively empty - quiet enough to have an undisturbed look around & discuss its issues & reputation.
Then a walk at night - at 2am - when the strip is open to all & in full swing. We see it as it is, unedited & as it happens.
Is it a party go-to or a tourist no-go?

@@COLSPLACE44 ppl are asking bc the video has been posted for a couple weeks now and apparently this was the fight they had outside a nightclub bc one looks like jay and the other in black T-shirt is the guy jay was with wearing the same T-shirt. I only came across ur video bc it’s Tenerife related and I watched it bc it’s Veronica’s strip and up popped that scene we’ve seen for weeks on social media.

At 44 years old my clubbing drinking Tenerife days are well behind me. Had a bad experience there being mugged, so glad to be watching from the comfort of my bed in the UK .. wouldn’t ever return to that hell hole.

It’s the same as anywhere Col night out in a city or big town, if you go out for the night keep your wits about you and don’t do anything on holiday that you wouldn’t do at home

There’s a lot of different opinions about the strip Charlene & Inthink it all depends on the individual’s experiences. I’ve been going there, worked there & partied there for over 20+ years & never had a bad experience - in fact I’ve had some great times there & met some great people. That siad, i have also seen its issues 1st hand- which takes me back to what i said inthe video - the strip itself is ok - it’s some of the people who end up there that are the real problem.
Wouldn't go there for a Gold Pig, looks a right dump.

Possibly true but knowing a lot of the workers there, theres a good ex-pat community too. Plus, its 1 of the most profitable & most visited parts of the island - take it away as lost people demand & the knock-on effect economically would not be good.

@@Misfirefly I see your point but i can tell you without a doubt, most of the ex pats either around the Veronicas area or on the island as a whole are not running away from anything. Not sure where you get your facts from.
I’m not sugar-coating anything - just stating how it is based on knowing many people who live there & havung visited for many years, worked there & seen it for myself.
Yes the island has its issues & i see you’ve got a dislike for the resort, but it’s no better or worse than any other popular resort.
As it goes, I live in supposedly the UK’s premier holiday resort & I can promise you, for horrible crimes, its far worse here.

Everyone living there is trying to scam or rip people off the amount off drugs on the island is ridiculous not to mention the time share con men and women working the streets along side drug dealers muggers rapist and murders island full of very bad eggs really can't stress enough for anyone thinking about going don't bad things happen on tenerife
Sorry to hear all that - especially with your family. When you say everyone there is involved in scams etc, I have to say you are wrong. I know literally dozens if not hundreds of people, some of which have lived there many years & they have never been involved in any scam or crime & are lovely people.
Also, you must consider thousands of brits go there on holiday each year & have a great time without any bad experience.
There are good & bad all iver the world & its unfortunate that your view if Tenerife has been tainted. It would be interesting to know where you go on holiday - especially given that you have somehow come across my Tenerife videos 😊
ive been to tennerife and i didnt come across any trouble, if you keep your head down and don't look for trouble you will be fine. but if you start trouble and think your billy big boots over there your playing with the wrong ones they don't fuck about especially if them from the bad lands get involved, so go over and enjoy don't cross there line.
Please can you confirm if this was actually filmed recently, because it looks as if Brandon and Jay are in this video in the middle there is a little scuffle , they are clearly wearing the same clothes as Brandon and Jay were on the night. Jay went missing. This could be a crucial piece of evidence

He says just before 21:00 of the video it’s very busy for a Sunday night so it must be the night jay went out n missing the next morning.

Its 1 of the most visited & profitable areas on the whole island though so they must be doing something right I suppose.
Built in the early 80's Col I was first there in 86 and back in the 90's on many occasions. Veronica's is as safe as you want it be .If you go looking for bother you will find it anywhere in any country, city or town .Never had a problem

If you watch this & all my other Veronicas videos in full, you will see that I always warn of the dangers & issues at the end of each video. I show the quickest routes out & the locations of taxi ranks etc.
Just to correct you slightly as well, your opinion of Veronicas being ‘full’ of drigs, wrongens etc. - I’ve been going there for over 20 yrs as a worker & visitor. I work in the nightlife industry here in the Uk. I can assure you Veronicas is no different to any town centre in the UK on a weekend. I live in Bournemouth - there are way more drug-users, incidents of violent crime & ‘wrongens’ here. You’re much safer on the Veronicas strip than most UK high streets on a weekend.
Good information col. anyone who goes on a night out on holiday with hundreds of euros cash on them are asking for trouble. Only take what you think you will need and if you need more go back to your safe in hotel. Not a fan of Veronica’s strip but I’ve been and certainly don’t feel unsafe. It’s about being aware of your surroundings

@@JanetMorganmorgana Hi Janet - good point - there are outside influences that affect what goes on in the area. Whether mafia is the correct term or not, I’m not sure. Also who exactly has control & how much they have is debatable. I considered it but I didn’t wish to speculate & add fuel to the the myths that already exist.
No myths it's in newspapers ,cartels getting smashed .

This particular video is about Veronicas Strip in Tenerife, its history & its reputation. It has no relation or mention of the missing boy, any police force or judicial process in Spain & has no suggestions to either of those 2 issues at all. Viewers who have commented in relation to the missing boy have done so off their own opinion as no suggestion as been made in this video.
As a content creator & regular vistor to the island, I have purposefully avoided any ‘reporting’ about the case on all my social media platforms, purely out of respect for the family & investigation, other than to express my wishes for the best possible conclusion to those concerned.

This will have had a lot of views along with much of your stuff in recently weeks. unfortunately, this place has been rough for decades. It’s bottom end tourism now with cheap flights from the United Kingdom
, You won’t necessarily be attacked or anything like that, but naturally it’s a place where there’s more likely to be trouble there’s drugs and every everything that goes with those things.
@@Robert-vw3od Theres always interest in the Veronicas videos so to be honest, there’s not really been the spike’ or surge of interest that you might expect.
Possibly because as a creator, I’ve not been too interested in jumping on the bandwagon unlike others. I’ve been a visitor, worker & partygoer of the island for many years & as such, I don’t see it as a source of internet ‘likes’ or ‘views’ . I have too much respect for the mates I have who have to earn a living from the area.
It’s a shame that Veronicas - or on a bigger scale - places like Tenerife, Magaluf, Ayia Napa etc are all classed as ‘bottom-end’ tourism & carry the drugs/crime millstone around their necks. Yes, these areas have their issues - just like they did in the 80s/90s - but we shouldnt lose sight of the very fact that in terms of drugs, violence, crime, these areas are no worse than any town or city centre of the UK.
I live in Bournemouth, supposedly 1 of the UK’s premier resorts & I can assure you from actual experience, you are much safer on a Saturday night at 1am in Veronicas than you are here. And I work in the night-time industry & I have seen & worked both areas 1st hand. 👍
There is much to discuss here, Napa is slightly better, probably because it’s slightly more expensive. it was slightly less commercialised until the 00s. over the years British package holiday type destination have gone downhill for variety of reasons, in places like Tenerife you would expect the police and the authorities in these places over the years to have take action and the reality is they haven’t for financial reasons. as we’ve had cheaper air travel, these things have got worse obviously greed is a factor. when you talk about places in the United Kingdom being bad well that is obviously true. resistance against tourists is coming because there is far too much of it. Yes, there was crime in the past, but predominantly people went on holiday once or twice a year.
Because it's all unreported that's why .

Great vlog and great advice Colin.ive also been going to Veronica's since the mid 90's when I was in my 20's and I've never had any trouble myself. I was 52 last year and my and the Mrs had a night out down at Veronica's and had a brilliant time,all the young un's were really friendly and chatty so I'd definitely go back again. Usually go during the day now as our friend Mick runs Yordys.

Honestly, I am so so grateful that my son does not drink and isn’t into this sort of thing, I don’t think I could cope seeing this frightens me so much. It must be so worrying for these parents, stay safe kids

@@vanessamarie5333 i’ve been going there for over 20 years, never been a victim of crime in all that time. Yes there’s a few pickpockets, street girls etc but no more than any other resort.

I always pay by card on holiday but when i was in linekers, the bar man took my card to the til to take payment and when i got home he tried to use it to pay for flights the cheeky twat. Learnt my lesson then
Of course you enjoyed tonight’s walk down the Veronicas, you got tittie teased by one lass 🤣🤣🤣🤣 seriously though, it just seems similar to a night out in any major city in the uk, I was a little disappointed by this tbh, I want to know what happened to all the traditional Spanish bars and restaurants, there were still the odd one or two dotted around back in the eighties. Would have loved to see the beach front at night too, surely they have non McDonald’s restaurants down there still lol. Tenerife has become another victim of over developed commercialism, fun for what it is but would be better if they fused it with the more traditional entertainment in my opinion.

There are still many Spanish bars & restaurants that thrive all over the island. Sadly, on UA-cam, these places aren’t the ones that viewers want to see.
The late night venues catering for the ‘Brits abroad’ are by far the most popular & you’re rght - just like a night out back home on a weekend!
I’ve done a few videos of the beach front at night but again, they just get slated & labelled as ‘boring’

@@COLSPLACE44 I remember going to Tenerife for the first time for a Christmas family holiday way back in the eighties. We stayed at a hotel complex in playa, can’t remember what it was called, but I do remember that we had a lovely view of a construction site from our balcony lol. It was starting to become more and more commercialised even back then however one of my fondest memories I had was going to this beautiful little beach side restaurant for a meal to celebrate my brothers birthday and the hospitality of the staff was incredible, we were all offered some beverages and we stuck to our usual preferences of fruit juices, but what the manager brought out was 3 exceptionally large glass with all the trimmings, lemons, limes, cherry on a stick little cocktail umbrellas, a touch of glitter on the outside of the glass and the icing on the cake was fully lit sparklers it just made for exceptional magical evening, thoroughly enjoyed by all ❤️ the only time I returned to Tenerife since was in 2000 for my honeymoon, it had changed beyond my recognition by then. I did enjoy it but not as much as my first visit.

I remember it when I was a teenager and it had a reputation then. these places do not get a reputation for no reason. Don’t get me wrong I particularly dislike people who go to Dubai but reality is all mass continual foreign tourism is bad and more so now because it has increased . It wasn’t so bad when people only went to these places once or twice a year. With sleazyjet and riffraffair taking tons of people all the time the place is not going to improve.
Bobby’s bar…mate spent most of my holiday back there back on my 18-30’s holiday. Came back with a mix tape made on the night by the DJ Roger the doctor. Good times nice one matey 😎👍🏾

It’s been going since the late 80’s has Veronica’s (88’’).
I’ve been going since 91’’ & I’ve been as recently as April, just gone and I’m returning at the end of this month.
Not a great deal has changed tbh. The Lucky lucky men selling Talcum Powder is more of a recent thing as opposed to a 90’s thing.
I was robbed and put in intensive care years ago ,it was bouncers from Bobby’s that hit me with a iron bar and smashed my skull needed plates in my eye sockets and needed to have a tube fitted in my bladder because of peeing blood 🩸in hospital for all the holiday got out and went to airport for flight home

there is huge problem with young people just turning up with NO cash and just turning with up with a phone and no cash or card. and lose their phone or break their phone and have no way to pay for things on their holidays. you need to bring your phone, cash, and a card. do not keep your card in your phone as if you do lose phone you will end up losing your bank card as well so keep it separate and don't take all your cash out with you

That crowd appears to be more tourists than locals. Just be aware of your surroundings, and wear clothes that allow you to strap one of those money bags concealed. They have room for your cellphone, but why would you be constantly on your cellphone if you are having a fun night....
Most young people live on their phones these days. Social media, payments, listening to their own music etc. Their phones are stuck to their hands

Great Vlog, My wife & I used to go to the strip 30+ years ago. Nowdays we visit the quieter end of the island..
However my children who are both in their 20's both love the strip & have never had any issues...
All i'd say is stay with your group look out for each other & have a Blast...
I stayed in Pdla for a week, I was going to go out there but I’m glad I didn’t tbh it’s mad how it’s under canopies like that but if I was younger I would of loved it but now after J slater and everything coming out I wouldn’t feel safe now but tbh where is safe :/. Wish I had visited the beach behind though
Tbh I used to love Kavos, I never went to Pdla when I was younger it was on the list though but later in life I stayed there but I didn’t go out in Veronicas

Appreciate this video. Girlfriend and I booked up today for September. Staying a bit out of the way in Spring Hotel Vulcano (think it’s next to Hard Rock Cafe). We’ll no doubt head up to Veronicas but if I’m honest, I’ve been a little apprehensive after reading about the things you mentioned. I do feel more at ease after watching this. Quick question, is there any nightlife in other parts of Las Americas? Particularly near Hard Rock?
@@CM87NUFC hi - thanks for watching. Yea Vulcano is a good 10-15 min stroll away from Veronicas, not far from Hard Rock. Just behind it you’ve got La Paz strip music bars but these cater for an older age group than Veronicas - think 40+ & cabaret/tribute acts. Next to Hard Rock youve got Magic Bar which is decent but can be pricey.
In between your Hotel & Veronicas youve got Gaelic Corner & the Dubliner bar. 2 huge Irish bars open to 4am. These are great & attract all ages with live music.
If you look at my other videos you can check out all these places 👍
You’ll both be fine in Veronicas but just stick together, don’t let anyone too close to you & just be aware. Dont take loads of cash or flash your phones etc.
Opposite Veronicas is Tramps nightclub, Linekers etc which you can also go to without having to go through Veronicas..

I had some great times at Veronica’s in the 90s. Also had my jaw broken in Bobby’s Bar.
I learned the hard way but remember this focus on what you have not what you haven't got ect your current community/fans/subscribers or whatever you like to call them, remember to reply to most of them if you can and upload constant or frequently but never lie if you make travel vlogs/videos.
Things I learnt that your fans/community/subscribers don't particularly like it when you make it all about how many views you or being monetised or just in it for money or views or see if you can get the most subscribers and if you show this on your channel it's not good and can push people away.
But I learnt to focus on goals and making a community because at the end of the day I'm not here for the money because it doesn't worry me because I know I can support my channel myself and yes the I make from UA-cam is nice but it's just a bonus and I learnt the most important thing is the community you have that's the people who watch your videos.
I learned this good stuff from mostly you Col but I also learnt a bit from Webby and Tim.
Remember let the haters hate and just be yourself.

@@JBMtravels cheers Jay. This video is just 1 of many I’ve made along this strip of bars in Tenerife. The walk aling the bars at night is unedited & simply shows what happens at that time, inside & outside the bars.
These videos do get good viewung figures but that’s not the main reason I publish them.
The main reason is to show you can have an enjoyable night down on the strip & it’s not all muggings, pickpockets, spiked drinks etc as is reported on social media.
After I’ve put the video up, if viewers want to see other things in the video that may or may not be there, that’s up to them.
These Veronicas strip videos have been & always will be part of my channel. I go there a lot. I know quite a few people who own businesses there & work there & its a great place to be.

Are the bars over the main road still there? It was a shopping centre and nightlife spot. Used to have an english chippy on the corner, party bars and an irish bar on the below ground level

What was the club called years ago where you went down some steps? I went in 1990 I think and preferred that place and Bobby's Bar. I still have my Bobbys bar cassette tape sonewhere 😂

I remember way back having some nights out in Veronicas and honestly we never had any trouble. The one bar in particular we went to was Bobby's bar run and English people and we had some memorable nights out. Downstairs we had The Glasgow bar... once again some great nights out.

Its a bit seedy col its had its day discos night clubs are a dying industry Harrogate york leeds where I'm from they've virtually disappeared i think Harrogate has one nightclub 30 years ago it had half a dosnt or so..i found out the otherday silent discos was a thing😮,people book cathedral's ,if I'd hadn't seen with my own eyes i would never have believed it..
I stopped going to clubs when they stopped playing pop/rock/disco music,all you get in them now is electronic crap.
Nostalgic! I went 3 times in early 90s. Had a fantastic time, but I remember once, walking along that road in front of Veronica's, and a car pulled up, and the guy asked the time. My mate lifted his hand up to read his watch and the guy in the car grabbed his hand to try to get his watch. Luckily they didn't get it. Still though have such fond memories of the place.
The best times there were the 90s 👍
Spent many a night in The Crow's Nest - near the knuckle but always went well.

I worked on Veronica’s for 2 years 1989 and all of -90 it was well established then also it was the acid house rave era .I saw one fight in nearly 2 years . just as I left peoples drinks were starting to get spiked that might of been Tenerife gossip . Everyone in my day looked out for each other bar club owners PRs etc “ I remember the old bobbys before it moved to the famous steps “ it’s changed so much for the better I would say , the only place that’s still going since my day is tramps . Things have changed a lot since then & sadly not all for the better.
Dropping a tab that made you love the music & all your fellow clubgoers has now been replaced by sniffing cheap powder & thinking you can take on the world.
Theres also not as many Brit workers now, especially since the joint whammys of Brexit & then covid, so the community you experienced probably isn’t as prominent.
Tramps is still decent though & despite its issues, if you have the right mindset, there’s still a good night out to be has on the strip 👍👍
