Iran is not simply a nation or a geographical location surrounded by mountains. Iran is a location on this planet that has hosted many civilisations going back at least 7000 years. Thus, its art, music, food, poetry, architecture, philosophy, religions, mathematics, science has influenced the region and the world over many millenniums. This is by no means an exaggeration. Kurds or Medes are close cousines of Persians and Kurdish is an Iranian language. Azarbijan (the name is from old Persian Atropates meaning protected by fire. This name is mentioned in the Avestan Frawardin Yasht: âterepâtahe ashaonô fravashîm ýazamaide which translates literally to: "We worship the Fravashi of the holy Atare-pata." ). As the name indicates Azarbijan is an Iranian province but after the invasion of Seljuk’s a turkish tribe in 11/12 century, the linguistic Turkification of the native Iranian populations began. As for Baluch, they migrated to Iran 2500 years ago from Syria and settled near Caspian sea. They then migrate further south east in a region called Makran. Note, that part of this region is in Pakistan (which did not exist at that time ans were all part of Iran). Shapur-I a king from the Sassanid empire’s trilingual inscription at the Ka'ba-ye Zartosht in Naqsh-i-Rustam, dated to 262 CE, has noted "Makuran"/"Makran" to be one of the many provinces of the Sasanian Empire. Their language is an Iranic language and the original tribes is no more as they are mixed with the people whom lived in these regions.

And that it will fall apart without a strong central government. Of course history suggests otherwise. The millenniums old cultural ties prevents this! In fact the exact opposite has happened. Any part separated from Iran will reunite even when separated temporarily. Many of our hero’s and legends are from those regions.

@@mysigt_ They are cheap and cost-effective though, can fly far and are quite precise and thus highly dangerous.
In Jordan this year, a US base was attacked by an Iranian drone with 3 dead US service members, indicating that these drones are a legit danger and that, while we all are in our good rights to laugh at Russian general performance against drones, the US' protection against such drones is also probably not perfect.
Iran and their proxies have been able to strike cargo ships and tankers. Iran also shot down a Global Hawk RQ4 a few years back. And Iran's proxies attacked oil fields using drones deep inside Saudi Arabia - with US air defense systems no less - and achievd their goal.
What I am saying is, the US can probably beat Iran, but all of the above show beyond any doubt that Iran is far more advanced than Iraq in every way, and unlike the war with Iraq, the war with Iran will result in a significant number of US casualties. Iraq under Saddam could not have done any of the things above, showing a lack of capability of Iraq. But I would be careful extrapolating such an easy victory to Iran.
Also, I do not think the US has the actual political and moral discipline to fight a large war with Iran. They cannot even truly decide whether they want Ukraine to survive or not, with the US being split right down along the middle on this issue. It would be folly of a country in such a state to start a large war in the middle east.
I may sound pro-iranian (and I am, to the extent that I hope their draconian regime falls) but the fall and eventual reform of the Iranian regime can only happen from within. I think they are too strong to be conquered by what is these days a politically weak and indecisive US. A cold war US and even a Desert Storm Era USA would have the discipline and willpower to pull through, but not post financial crisis US.
i am an Iranian Kurd and currently live in Iran. based on my life experience the idea of Iran Balkanization if not enforced by west is very far fetched. Kurds may had many bad experiences with Iranian governments but are very related to Persians and Iran. Azeris the same, most of the modern Iran was ruled by Azeris and they are proud of it mostly, we have many national Azeri heroes and I don’t think an average Azeri sees Iran as the other's government overall. the most serious one is Balochs but not to the level of Balkanization and to SOME EXTENT you can use the Kurdish logic on them too

I've read some of his replies to comments on his past videos long ago, and he actively supports the balkanization of Iran and wishes Northwestern Iran to be annexed into the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Iran won't Balkanize unless it becomes a failed state band regions literally need to break off to survive on their own. The point is that Iran's diversity is a means that foreign powers try to create vulnerabilities. I don't think that will be successful in any meaningful way, but it nevertheless is tried.

Iranian guy here. The thing about Persians and ethnic groups is that there isn't just ONE Iranian or Iranic ethnic group. And they don't even live just in Iran. They live all over the Middle East and Central Asia. It's kind of like the same thing with Turks or the Chinese. You have these related ethnic groups with related or the same language and shared ancestry.
I don't think Iran could be broken up either. The best hope I have is for something else to replace the current government.

I'm just saying the way the video is talking about the ethnic groups in Iran lacks a bit of nuance that this short video can explain. Iranian culture is pretty influential in the region so its even kinda hard to draw the lines on the ethnic groups. There's a reason there's so many -stan countries. Like Azeris for example speak their own kind of Turkish. But are they Turks or Iranians? Because of a lot of their culture is very Iranian as well. For example they celebrate Nowruz, the Iranian new year

Last time there was anti-regime riots they sparked in a corner of the country. But they didn't seem to be ethnic riots, instead it was outrage that the morality police has killed people.
Basically any country or region with -stan in the name has some varying percentage of Iranian ethnic blood and culture. Azerbaijan and Armenia are probably the most Iranian by blood, but the race stretches from Georgia, Turkey and the Balkans in the west to Dagestan and Kazakhstan in the north to India (Parsis) in the east.

As an Iranian lur I must tell you that this sense of separatism is quite small and more fueled by foreign forces than anything else. Today many families in Iran are mixed, my own family has kurds, persians, turks, and Shomali’s in it, so it would be weird to talk about ethnic separation or supremacy. Iranians have a strong sense of nationalism too, while there might be a very small population that might want places like Azerbaijan to separate from Iran, most Azeris still love Iran and actually dont like talks of division.

The most vocal advocates for Iranian national identity not existing and thus supporting ethnic nationalism and separatism are from two groups: Foreigners who are of those ethnic nationalism kind, mainly from Azerbaijan and Turkey but also some Kurds and Arabs and Some Iranian leftists who think they are fighting racism and discrimination by uniting with Pan-Turks, Pan-Kurds and other separatists.
Totally wrong, the Balochs are definitely not loyal to Iran and also are sunnnies. They also have a resistance group who on daily base liquidates Iranian soldiers in Baloch areas and near afghan border.
You forgot to mention one very important thing - Iran's linguistic influence. Where Iran has failed to export its religious influence, it has succeeded in exporting its linguistic influence. That's also the reason why Sunni majority country Pakistan has its entire national anthem in the Persian language. Not only that, Urdu language has also adopted a huge number of Persian words. Iran is to Asia what Greece is to Europe.
The farsi that's spoken in South Asia isn't much influenced by modern day Iran but more of Afghanistan/Central Asia.

I am an Iranian, and I'm a minority both ethnically and religious, I'm ethnically Talesh, and I was born in a sunni family. Let me tell you this, separatist movements in Iran are soooo weak. And not because governments suppressed them, because none of the Iranian ethnic groups want to be separated from Iran. You know why? Because they have the same values, same beliefs (not only religious), same history, same heritage, same roots, and same culture (like nowruz).
You said it yourself. Modern Iran was built by Ismail, who was an azari! And 2 out of 4 next dynasties after Safavid had also azari roots(qajar and afshar), and guess what? The other 2 weren't fully persian either! One was lak (zand), and Pahlavis were from mazandaran!
See? For the past 500 hundred years, all of the Iranian kingdoms were from minorities! So there is no forcing Iranian culture and Persian language! Even mongols and arabs admired Iranian culture and used Persian language! In other words, Iranian culture and Persian language never colonized anywhere, but connected all these diverse groups and kinda mixed them together. And one thing they all agree on is that they are all IRANIAN before anything else. That's why you can't divide Iran because we are all kinda mixed, and there's no ethnic border between actual people inside Iran :))

historically no separationist movement was successful in iran. because most people in these regions are barely interested in breaking up the country. these movements were always from some militia and groups with ties to foreign powers and when those foreign powers collapsed, those groups were gone with them too.
the lack of support from the locals is the reason that even the weakest central governments in Iran are always able to suppress these groups. Reza pahlavi for example was able to keep iran together with an army that couldn’t hold its ground for 48hours against allies.
but the warning of disintegration was always overplayed by the iranian governments in order to suppress any protest. The sense of unity in iranians is something that most foreign powers tend to underestimate. in the 2022 protests most of Iranians backed kurds and baluchis. And as you said, in the iran-iraq war, not only khusestani arabs didn’t support sadam’s conquest, they even pit up a fierce resistance against it. Iran does not need to choose between authoritarianism or being disintegrated. A federal democracy in Iran is more than possible and is probably the best solution for the whole region. if Iran dissolves into several smaller states, then it will throw the whole region into ethnic wars and instabilities that would go on for decades if not centuries.
I really wish for the ordinary Iranian people to be able to experience democracy and then decide for themselves what they like more.

In my opinion, the majority of people are not friendly with the government but if anything happens they don't run away like some other countries, they stand and fight not for the sake of keeping the regime but for Iran.

The oldest example I can recall is the war with Saddam. The state did not unify Iran around religion, at least not fully. And in the last protests after the morality police had killed some people, they spread over ethnic lines.
It's also why I fear letting the Iranian government get a big, external enemy. The war with Saddam was not long after the terror of the revolution. It reminds me a lot of old nationalism in Europe where the states tried to use national animosity as something to tune on and off like a tap to fit the daily need.

As an iranian ethic minor member, i can say this video was almost totally unreliable! Broooo! Being iraninan is not equal to being fars! For example, lurs and mazandaranies are pure iraninan! I have alote of baluch sunni frirends! All of them know themselves as original aryans! You do not consider the history that every iranian is proud of! We supposed to be the oldest country in the world! And every iranian deep down has deep ties with its own history!!! I l also can mention that nationalism is even growming to be more popular than before! Because nowadays we have the same goal which is bacoming free from this tyranny!
