- There were certain QTEs I was curious about what would happen if you failed. So this includes missing the QTE to catch the bottle, missing all QTEs (other than a shot or two) while wendigo are reaching for Mike through the bars, and failing to shoot the explosive barrel.
The wolf is a smart addition here. Mike cannot die because he's needed for the rest of the plot and this is a smart way to add stakes to the sequence.

Actually failing the QTEs is pretty difficult here since they're so easy, and certain failures do nothing or are very boring to watch. So yeah, pretty much this is a demonstration of some of the more interesting results. I think truly failing all QTEs leads to the first 'death' occurring when Mike hesitates too long in choosing a direction, and that's just a cut to black or something equally dull.

No, it's impossible for Mike to die in the Sanatorium; he only has two possible deaths, both very similar and both in the Lodge sequence in chapter 10. In the Sanatorium, failing too many QTEs cuts the segment short, but Sam always arrives in time to rescue him.

Miyanoai14 they did it because he's needed at the end so they allow the wolf to die if he is with you so you will actually try to play to save the wolf.
Mike is such a badass that even if he fails miserably he is still able to fight the windegos in hand to hand combat. Didnt see matt or chris do that

I really like Mike but it's still pretty stupid that he was just able to elbow and kick the Wendigos off of him, unless he has some super strength but that's obviously not the case lol.

when my brother killed the wolf in his first play through, while I was watching, (I already played the game) he literally went full Rambo.. he started to aim perfectly, do all qte’s before even a second passes, made all right choices, etc.

That's the joke. The characters represent horror clichés. Chris is the extra one that dies in the middle of the movie, Jess and Matt the blonde and black guy to die first, and Mike the mc who never dies but sacrifices himself

+Nima Ghaffari If I remember right it's usually it's just a cut to black, kind of like when Mike doesn't shoot the explosive barrels at the very end of Sanatorium exploration. But next time I do a playthrough of chapter nine I can test and try to make a video! Is there a particular area in the Sanatorium/wendigo attack you'd want to see what happens with?
There are many wendigo parts since the beginning of the sanatorium where they jump at you. What would happen if you just let them? I mean Sam can't possibly make her way through the whole sanatorium! And if she does there could be bonus parts to play

You know what I think would be cool? If Mike could die in the sanatorium. Sam and Josh will have to traverse the mines alone. Sam will have to explore the lodge alone, Sam will have to do everything Mike had to do in the final showdown, and she will have other people's lives under her hands (including Matt, Josh, and Jessica as per the new information I put in the thread). Now it'll be tougher as a consequence of Mike not being there, and if Sam fails the first move then she dies along with everyone else in the lodge, it will not burn down, and the creatures will continue doing their thing as a bad ending. If she dies after she broke the light bulb then you now play as Chris and you have the option to either save Emily and/or Ashley (if they're alive) or turn the switch on UNLESS Chris is dead before the lodge, then that choice will fall either under Emily or Ashley depending on who is nearest in the light switch OR if the three of them are dead before the lodge too, then we get the bad ending again where the lodge doesn't catch on fire. If she dies after Chris had gotten out, then Emily and Ashley will run together and Emily will hit the light switch. I'd love that.
That'd be really cool! I think the only Supermassive game that came anywhere close to that level of complexity was Man of Medan, though the Quarry does have some neat variations for the end sequence. It would've been great to see with UD though.
@@TesseractHeartMisc I have a ton of ideas branching out of this main concept!! God, I love Until Dawn. Mainly Jessica, Matt, and Josh are affected here.
Since Jessica did not have much screen time (she's missing for 4 damn chapters!) then Matt and Jessica will try to get back to the lodge after they escape the mines while they try to evade the creatures in the forest with a bunch of Don't Moves and QTEs. If Matt and Jessica are in this segment, then you will now play as Jessica in the forest instead of Matt in the mines. Only one of them can also perform this scene depending on who survives, and the scene will not appear if both Matt and Jessica died before they escape the mines. The segment will appear before the lodge explodes when Sam, Mike, Chris, Emily, or Ashley successfully hits the light switch or if all of them are dead. If Matt and Jessica successfully escape the forest, then the camera will pan back to when the lodge explodes and Matt and Jessica will arrive in the final shot of the burning lodge hugging each other as they look at the burning lodge. If everyone is dead in the lodge, then Matt and Jessica's fate is sealed and they will die regardless as they are met with the creatures coming out of the lodge. Matt and Jessica can have new deaths.
Additional details:
-In the sanatorium, if Mike fails some QTEs then Wolfie will sacrifice itself for Mike. If Mike continues to fail any QTE, he dies through a stab in the chest.
-If Ashley concealed the truth from Emily, Emily will hold her hand when both of them run for the switch if Sam dies after she breaks the light bulb. Otherwise, Emily runs first and Ashley follows along.
-Sam and Chris can finally have a new death scene in the lodge where instead of Sam being impaled in the stomach, if she fails the first don't move segment then she will be the one thrown in the pillar with her back breaking, Emily and Ashley will still have the eyes gouged death, and Chris will try to run for the door but he will be too late and will get decapitated.
-If Mike survives the sanatorium, then Josh can have a chance to live! Since you play as Josh, you will not move when Mike gets dragged away so the creature trots out. When it is safe, Josh and Mike will make a run for it out of the mines. Josh will not be involved in the lodge scene as he will stay hidden in the cabin as mentioned by Mike before they enter the waters, although he will run for the lodge as an attempt to reunite with his friends and maybe even save them, rendering another segment with a creature chase in the pathway to the lodge, having QTEs and Don't Moves and will give Josh some new deaths. He will be met with the burning lodge in the cabin and will be involved in the final shot of the burning lodge, or he will die alongside Matt and Jessica if everyone in the lodge is dead. Josh running to the lodge will be panned after Matt and Jessica evades the forest or dies, and then the final shot of the burning lodge with the explosions will occur.
-Josh can have a new death scene in the mines if Mike dies in the sanatorium where he gets pulled into the water to drown, rendering the evidence that Josh can get to recognize Hannah useless. Sadly, Josh cannot escape his fate in this one. ):
-Josh can still get the secret ending transformation if Mike is alive, he fails the Don't Move segment, and knows about Hannah with the evidence.
-It is still possible to have a Josh/Matt/Jessica sole survivor if Sam and Mike is in the lodge, everyone else is dead, and Mike sacrifices himself.
-Josh will finally be in the interview, and many dialogues will be changed and/or added:
Scene 1:
Josh: "The... the lodge..."
Reporter: "Hmm?"
Josh: "It's- it's not real. This didn't happen..."
Reporter: "Josh, are you okay-"
Josh: "No the fuck not! Why... why is this happening to me?"
Reporter: "Josh... if you need help-"
Josh: "I just wanted- wanted to mess around. I... I didn't know. I swear I didn't know."
Scene 2:
Reporter: "Your friend said you were off your medications."
Josh: "Wh-what? Who?"
Reporter: "Josh, I need you to seek a therapist-"
Josh: "No- NO! Not back there. PLEASE, not back there, don't send me there. I don't want to go back there!"
Reporter: "Josh-"
Josh: "I'm begging you."
Scene 3:
Josh: "My... my sister, Hannah..."
Reporter: "The one who went missing a year ago?"
Josh: "She's there. In- in the mines."
Reporter: "The mines?"
Josh: "I- I think I know what I saw. It was- it was in the lodge too- Oh god, fuck..."
Reporter: "What is in the mines?"
Josh: "I w-want to forget, but I can't stop seeing it... Please, burn the forest. Burn- burn everything."
-New dialogue for the rescue team in the helicopter if the lodge does not burn:
Pilot: "We hear something. There's screaming coming from the main structure... and there's no sight of any survivors. Wait, do you see that? What is that?"

Huh, I just beat the game today. I didn't shoot like any of the wendigos in cells because I assumed there would be some negative consequence to shooting every one I saw. Here I see that I could be afk lmao

I don't remember exactly on this one, but there are some times when failing a shot just makes the scene end with a cut to black. It's very boring. :( So I skipped those failures as much as possible.

You can actually go to black screen immedietly at the beginning if you chose neither left nor straighht. The game simply wont let you die and IF you mess up hard they take away the control from you.
Mike literally CAN'T die in this section so that's really dumb.
I reflexively kicked Wolfie when I first met him and did not earn his trust, yet he still came to my aid and bit the Wendigo when I failed a QTE, and died. :(

they had such tunnel vision with his character that they didn't consider other characters making it to the end to be the one to end the threat, not even Sam who is Plot Armour character #2

What happens after the screen goes blank!
Mike's segment in the Sanatorium ends, and you switch back to Sam; she goes after him as normal, and then there's an additional segment where she enters the Sanatorium to rescue him from a wendigo.
It doesn't matter what part of the Sanatorium Mike fails in, the cutscenes make it so Sam saves Mike in 2 determined places I think, so yeah kind of not fair in terms of punishing the player and following what actually happens.
Cause if Mike fails in the deep parts of the Sanatorium, Sam should appear there, but for some reason Mike appears right at the end of the Sanatorium or at the mines, even though we see him struggling at different parts in the Sanatorium :P

Everyone being extremely annoyed at the fact that Mike can't die here to the miner wendigo's because of plot armour but actually I think it makes sense. The miner wendigos aren't the same as Wendigo Hannah. Wendigo Hannah is possessed by the Makkapitew which is the strongest Wendigo among all the Wendigo spirits. On top of that the Miner Wendigos are years old where as Wendigo Hannah was just a year before the events of Until Dawn. So I don't necessarily think it was just plot armour, heck he can face all of these off until Sam saves him yet easily gets over powered by Wendigo Hannah in the final scene and Wendigo Hannah can easily defeat the miner Wendigos in the final scene, indicating that the miner wendigos are extremely weak and Wendigo Hannah is really strong. And I bet ya, If Chris was attacked by a miner Wendigo in the QTE instead of Wendigo Hannah and failed a QTE, He would be able to fight of the Wendigo as well.
Keep in mind they have nearly the exact same speed and agility, so why would the strength be THIS different?

+Julie Moroi The out of character explanation is that he can't die no matter what you do until chapter 10, and the in character one is that he's attacked but manages to fight off the wendigo long enough for Sam to come rescue him. If Mike doesn't make it out of the sanatorium when you're playing him, Sam has an additional segment in the mines where she finds an exit, goes to the sanatorium, and then rescues Mike.

That is just plain ridiculous. If this were for real, I guarantee that Wendigo would have killed him before Sam got to him. I dunno why this wasn't ever addressed by the developers, because the rest can die in many different scenarios but Mike's somehow Superman all of a sudden?

Yeah, it's impossible for Mike to die until the lodge showdown at the end of chapter 10, so even the worst of failures anywhere else won't kill him.
its so annoying that they have practically put immunity on mike in the game they did the exact same thing with jess as well. until the end, but the reason why they have imunity is because there the leading characters. only mike has more game play than sam by like 70% to 30% being sam. mike's my faourite character anyways so i cant complain.

Nah, unfortunately UD is a little cheap about this; Mike can't die in the sanatorium no matter what. He always survives until the Lodge sequence at the end, and can only die by either Sam flipping the switch or setting off the fire himself with his lighter.
EDIT: Unless you meant hypothetically, if he could? Which would've been neat. Either Sam or Emily would probably have come up with the plan then, I think.

Several of the fails are super boring (and most are the same reused clip) and that's why I skipped them; I'm pretty sure that one shows the same animation I have recorded at the end of the second sanatorium fails video.
