I remember playing this in the arcade with my dad as a kid at around 7 years old. Once both of us could beat the game, it became a contest to see who could do it using the fewest quarters. My record was a simple perfect run on 2 quarters but the old man had to one-up me and do it on 1 quarter (he got lucky there was one in the machine already) AND drove the whole run with one arm as he was holding my infant little brother at the time. Good memories indeed.
It's all the details that do it, the rain in particular is impressive with all the little details, like how it takes a few seconds for the driver to turn on the windscreen wipers.
@@KingOfElectricNinjas Yeah about that, that’s actually a manual input afaik, so the player has to press the button for wipers or headlights during certain sections
Played this in the arcades many times. On the Springfield level where you drive on the railway track; you see the train catching up in your rear view mirror. If you bring your car to a standstill you don't actually get hit by the train. The train stops as well.
the arcade i used to local had the DX cabinet with the seat that shifted left and right when you turned, it reminded me of Galaxy force 2 which was also made by Sega and had a full 360 rotating seat+screen, thanks for sharing this great Sega Gem with us and i'll catch ya next race!
Great Game Review & Impressions as always! As I had little arcade access I don't feel nostalgia and spend more time reading your piece about the game than viewing gameplay itself. Details you put into review are what's keeping me here
This was fun to watch. During those days I spent so many quarters on Street Fighter 2, Outrun, Turbo Outrun, and other games. I remember not having a lot of playing time with Rad Mobile because not every arcade had it. And when I did find it, IIRC it was multiple quarters to play. I don't think I ever got past the 2nd or 3rd stage I always thought it was so cool how you could manage the headlights and wipers. Good memories
I played this back in the mid 90s in Chicago IL USA at a local putt-putt amusement place (large sit-down cabinet) and remember this being the hardest Sega racer I'd ever played! Looking back, aside from Capcom's "Slipstream" (built on Sega's expert sprite based hardware), I remember Rad Mobile being Sega's most ambitiously "realistic looking" arcade sprite-based racer yet, just as Sega finally let go and embraced 3D polygonal graphics. You can see the little details they put into this game to give it a "real racing" feel on a spite-based format.
They had one of the motion cabinets for this in the arcade at Fun Sphere in Arlington TX in the early 90's. I've been trying to figure out what it was called for years. All I could remember was the in-car perspective and the oncoming traffic flashing its headlights.
If that game goes on Nintendo Switch, including Turbo Outrun must happen as soon as possible. However if that Rad Mobile car is as fast as an Outrun 1984 Ferrari must speed to 293km/h making that game give Outrun a lesson.
First appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega's first 32bit arcade game.
When there were no running and jumping animations for this hedgehog and probably his name wasn't Sonic yet.
@@illegalquantity I bet it was, Sonic 1 released just a few months later.
If sonic appeared in this this Makes It a Prototype Sonic 1 Lololol
@Jacob_Spence Yes cause PlayStation and Saturn and Sega Genesis 32X
Ah, yes. My favorite Sonic game: Rad Mobile.

The last bit where the traffic cop explodes to reveal an inflatable costume to disguise a race queen was priceless.

Sonic's best game: Rad Mobile, a truly masterpiece.
I used to love playing this one with the moving cabinet. The sounds were really immersive.
I'm glad this arcade scaling monster was available on the Astro city mini. this bring me back a lot of arcade memory.

Crazy how he started out as a keychain. A KEYCHAIN.

That sonic Doll in the Car 👍👍👍
What if I told you that this was his first appearance in a video game?
It's popping is very distracting and irritated me along the race
@@gamesquared2551 it was a previous Easter egg.

Sonic's First appearance Rad Mobile .
I Really Like how they put Sonic on the
Nearest top of the Windshield as a little Keychain 😂
The voice at the end saying 'you'll never catch me' sounds like the same guy in Sega Bass Fishing.
that dangling blue doll thing is so cute, i hope someday they'll make a game with that character

That's a nice looking keychain of a blue hedgehog there. They should make a game franchise about him.

Thank to this game, Sonic the Hedgehog exists
I was thinking what is that in the back of the car when you see the full view of the car at the end. The mother-in-law seat? XD
I remember dominating this game in the arcades, now looks like crap but at the time was the thing!
