    Thanks man! I thought I needed to buy a shorter screw for my press tool but couldn't find one, and ran across your video. It was a total pain to do it backwards, but at least it worked!

    Great pro tip; literally just had to do this for both lower ballpoints. Worked like a charm.

    I have an 06 3500 and these must be the original ball joints. I am by no means a mechanic. Teaching myself as my truck needs work. This was some serious shit.
    The *only* thing that got the lower out for me was bracing the lower control arm (hydraulic jack) and beating the absolute shit out of it with a sledge. Even after I got it moving, the press still couldn't push it the rest of the way out. I ended up getting an old socket, sticking it on top of the ball joint (as it was part way down the hole) and sledging the shit out of it some more until it finally came out.
    Still gotta get the top one out and press the replacements in. Had to take a break after the above ...

    Reminds me of when my dad had to do his pickup ball joints. Drivers side was stubborn, he was relentless with his sledge! LOL!!

    On my Jeep JK I ended up getting a 6' black iron pipe on a breaker bar. I had severe rust on the C's and could not get the clamp to stay straight. Used a lot of penetrating oil and a torch to help out. When I finally got it to move the ball joint sounded like a gun shot and the threads were so galled on the tool that I could not get it to come apart to go back in the case. When I took the loaner tool back to Advance I told them what happened and gave them a sorry, guy told me it happens all the time and corporate would send them a new tool, didn't charge me anything.

    Gonna give this a shot. Just had an all afternoon war in the driveway on pass side. Tried heat. I ended up drilling a hole in the top. Melted the inside. Pressed the ball out. Cut a relief from the drilled hole to the edge of the C with some precision sawzall work. Lol. Smacked it with a hammer. Fell right out. If i go right at that way wont take me as much time. But gonna try this first. Lower ball joints on rams suck as im finding out. Ill get the air hammer ready when i do the other side in a couple days. Dont want to anything that galls the hole. Guys get frustrated and end up having the weld em in. Haha.

      @@Wrenchlife604 so closing the loop. Heres the trick that worked on other side. Tighten it like you did. Whack that c with your purse. Comes right out. Like a big tre.

    I'm replacing my carli ball joints with new Carli ball joints. I'm running into a situation where I can't get my knuckle to slide up the new ball joint studs. I tried to force it up by tightening the lock nuts with two wrenches, but I've got them as tight as I can and there's still almost a quarter inch to go before the knuckle is all the way up

    Thanks for the tip using press upsidedown with hammer. But why no one uses heat? I need to do that work for my 2500 and planning to use some propane too.

    • @Wrenchlife604
      @Wrenchlife604  4 роки тому

      Heat wasnt working for me. The cast iron differential dissipated heat and is hard to get hot enough. Propane wont work.

    What happens if you try to use a cutting torch to the center lol then hammer them through? 😂

  • @Wrenchlife604
    @Wrenchlife604  7 років тому +3

    The passenger side gave me a lot more troubles. in the video i did the driver side which went pretty smoothly. but expect to repeat the tightening and airhammering repeated sequence a few times before you get it to move.

      05 3500 I'm in need of offset ball joints. Opinion? Advice? Am I correct there is no camber adjustment on these trucks?

    To prevent this from happening put anti seize on your new ball joints.

    Not really a trick, that is the way the factory service manual describes how to do it - except for the air hammer part. Good to have someone on youtube actually doing it with the tool in the correct orientation!

    What is the measurement for the inside of the C press? Is this a standard press or a bigger taller C press?

      @Wrenchlife604  4 роки тому

      Standard style press. Was a cheaper model too i believe. So nothing special

    I dont have an air chisel. Do you think it will be just about the same if I smacked the S *** out of it with a BFH around the outer perimeter of the housing? It's cast iron, should be fine I guess....1st time doing a 4x4. Thanks.

    • @Wrenchlife604
      @Wrenchlife604  6 років тому

      yours should come out with just the ball joint serperator tool if it isnt too siezed. the truck i did this on was a 400,000km canadian truck so it was pretty siezed. usualy you can take a BFH and strike the housing where the balljoint sits to help brake it loose. the air chisel is if its realy jammed in there.
      good luck. either it will be easy, or a nightmare
