That's a lovely video capture (at about 10:35) when you were boiling the chicken broth. The steam from the pot, superimposed on the sunshine in the background, looks like you are cooking a pot of flames! Gorgeous!

Great video! My husband retired and has decided to take over making supper which is nice but involves a learning curve. This week we mastered meatloaf and hot roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy. It has been fun, but definitely a slow process. The biggest thing we have conquered is not adding too much salt. I always tell him you can always add more, but you can't take it out. Your videos are great lessons for someone learning to cook. Your children are such a great help! Thank you for showing your patience in breaking things down to being simple to do.

My mom is home with the Lord these days and my daddy is 87. What we call homesteading they called life. They had me later in life but I grew up much in the way you are raising your family. Now I am raising 2 of my grandbabies as much that way as possible. I think it makes for better humans. LOL Love your channel.

It’s like going back 70 years and watching my mama cook. Except mama, for a family of nine, used about one fifth of the meat you used and three times the beans. Meat was hard to come by. We never minded. It was delicious. 😊

Happy Saturday with a sweet video from RuthAnn!! Yummy winter recipes. Loved seeing Hadassah multi-tasking with reading her book while she stirs something on the stove...just made me smile to see this lovely young woman, so skillful in the kitchen! At my age my multi-tasking days are pretty much done for, but I love listening to an audiobook if the recipe or chore isn't too involved. Enjoy your pre-wedding happy busyness! Thank you for your faithfulness in creating educational and heart-warming videos for your fans and friends! Blessings, Marie

You are such a great teacher. I love the way you incorporate the children into your cooking and cleaning up meals. Outside chores they never feel like they’re the only one doing chores.
Thank you for sharing your methods. I hope more young mothers fallow your advice. Teach them young and they will have the knowledge for a lifetime. The old say give a man a fish feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish feed him for life. I probably have it not exactly C right but you get the picture.
May you and your family be Blessed.

Hello Ms Ruth: I have to tell you I just love how you have your children helping out not only with housework but cooking meals! It is awesome how your daughter reads while cooking the white sauce lol and your sons get right in there with pealing potatoes as well as doing the dishes! Your recipes are easy to follow and so delicious 🤤😋🤤😋 Thank y'all for all you do. May God bless you and your family. I want to make a trip up north of where I live in Ohio to visit the Mennonite places to shop. You have stirred in me a desire to do more canning and making bread. I am always learning even at 70 yrs old. I appreciate you so much ❤️🥰🤗😘😇😇🤤😋😋🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏

To help with the "What to make for supper" question, we're using a tip from my Mother-in-law. She would ask my Father-in-law to go out to the freezer and pick what he'd like her to make for supper. I always thought that was a brilliant idea because that alleviates half the battle. My husband takes 2 meat choices from the freezer to thaw in the fridge and then I can decide how to prepare them.

Ruthann, this video made my heart glad. I'm especially glad you had chance to visit with your mom and sisters.
It's none of my business, and I don't know your whole family's story, but in the Amish communities nearby my grandparents, if you left the Amish, you were shunned by the entire Amish community, including your own family. There were Mennonites nearby as well, but not the horse and buggy kind, and I'm not sure what their practice was when someone chose to leave the order.
I always found the shunning practice heartbreaking.
I hope by now you have found a salad dressing recipe that the bride and groom think delicious!
Please do not worry about dropping a new video the week of the wedding! We can always watch some of your older videos 😊

I have found since I was a small girl that I was allergic to lots of store canned and prefab foods. So growing up in the 60's,70's,and 80's my mom went back to cooking everything from scratch. And that is still how I do it today. My older children now understand that convenience is not always healthy. I told them if you can't pronounce it you don't want it. Love to see you and your family each week.
I was wondering i have already started my plants from seeds was wondering if you do the same? I grow fresh herbs all year long. I do dry some.

What a wonderful jam packed video! It is always fun to watch you and your family all working together to get meals ready. The younger boys are growing so much and all of the kids kitchen skills are impressive. Consider the ripple affect you are causing - One mom teaches 7 children cooking / gardening / homesteading skills and they will each teach their own the same. Amazing! Your encouraging approach is just what is needed to get anyone to venture out and learn to do something new. You allow us the privilege of joining you in your kitchen and go through the process in real life. Seeing it happen is better than reading it. You show how you adapt to mistakes, be it too much butter in the crackers or all the meat, broth and bones being mix together in the fridge, and that is how life often is. For a new wife, mom or just a new cook, seeing this makes you realize that things don't have to be perfect for you to make a good meal if you think outside the box and find a solution. I wish I could have had someone like you when I was starting out. I didn't know how to cook when I got married and my patient and loving husband ate some strange things for the first few years. I was blessed by his kindness and encouragement through my struggles. We are celebrating our 42nd Anniversary this year and he is still my very best friend. I'm excited for you and your daughter with the upcoming wedding. I hope you all have fun, the weather is beautiful and the entire event is filled with love. God's blessings to all of you!

You really brought back memories with the wedding plans. When I got married, my Mother made my bridal gown, veil and all my bridesmaids dresses plus she did all the food for the reception plus the bridal cake. God rest her soul. She is with Jesus. I will be 75 next month. When you are young, you cannot realize all the work a Mother goes through. I love watching and keeping all your recipes.

We just had ham and potato casserole last night-it was yummy but I sure wish I would have thought to add green beans! Yum! I’ll definitely do that next time! I so enjoyed teaching my kiddos in the kitchen-4 adults now but I’ve been quite lazy about this youngest son he is 14 and way overdue for some cooking lessons! I’m adding that to my 2024 goals!!!

I always hold my potatoes like you do,to peel or slice, and my mother-in-law would just cringe. She always said you're going to cut yourself. I'm 70 now and have cut myself maybe twice, after really sharpening my knifes.

I have same cooktop as you and I use a very wet pumice stone to rub the built up food, grease & goo from it. The key is to have a wet surface & a wet pumice stone. Rub, rub, rewet and scrub till clean by using a wet cloth. Then I spray with vinegar and shine the goo. Voila. Very easy and very inexpensive. I got my pumice stone in Walmart near cleaning products. Hope you find this useful.

What is blessing to have meat you grow yourself. That ham and potato casserole looks delicious. I’ve steered away from canned soups. They just taste like chemicals to me. Something changed, Either my taste buds or their recipe 🤷‍♀️.
Lovely video this week. Thank you ❤

You are so right about the brain space! I am learning how to bake all sorts of bread and it was so difficult at first. But I kept going and now it's so much easier for me to do. I sometimes manage to make a good loaf of bread without looking at the recipe and that is saying something... 😀Thank you for this great video.
