Michael McLoughlin I used to live with a woman who would blast this song every morning & say "You Awoke?" That was early 70's Annie had a bunch of great wake up songs'

Holy moly, my favo singer youth time, now almost 69, talk about 17 yrs young , every wknd OUT dancing till 7am home, on Sunday morning, Monday work ofcourse. Grts from the Netherlands.
On this day in 1971 {March 20th} Rufus Thomas performed "(Do The) Push and Pull - Part One" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #37 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, that would also be it's thirteenth and last week on the chart, two weeks earlier it had peaked at #25 {for 1 week}... And on January 31st, 1971 it reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... Between 1953 and 1976 the Mississippi native had fourteen records on the Hot R&B Singles chart, five made the Top 10 with one* reaching #1, the above "Push and Pull"... Rufus C. Thomas, Jr. passed away at the age of 84 on December 15th, 2001... May he R.I.P. * He just missed having a second #1 record when "The Breakdown" peaked at #2 for 2 weeks, and it was "Spanish Harlem" by Aretha Franklin and "Stick-Up" by the Honey Cone that kept it out of the top spot...
RUFUS could JAM his ASS OFF, he had so much fun on stage. Wearing a bright PINK CAPE paired with matching knee shorts and white GO GO BOOTS, alrighty then (lol) cause RUFUS knows he's bringing that MEMPHIS FUNK.....DAM RIGHT!!...I CAN DIG IT!!
Great song. Does anyone remember the other "Push and Pull" song? It had a female lead. Early 70's R& B... "Push and let me pull, baby push, and let me pull..."
Rufus thomas was more than a great r and b singer focusing on dances with a comedic touch he was the first black DJ on a radio station that played what they called back the race records there were other radio stations that played this music but they were white djs that fooled or tried to fool their mostly black listeners by sounding black this was before the white kids started to listen to this music in this in early fifties before bill haley and elvis so sad how racism fostered the pretend game not just with music but djs as well
The Stax house band for many years was members of the MGs- Donald "duck" Dunn on bass, and Steve Cropper on guitar. They would moonlight on the side from the MG's. Played behind many artists. I will defer to the gentleman who commented earlier, as I do not know the particular lineup of this song. If you get the chance, read the book about the history of Volt/Stax- amazing!
Now this was the jam back in the seventies❤❤❤❤❤
I just heard this for the first time when 70s on 7 was airing an old AT Top 40 show with Casey Kasem. I like this; it should have been a bigger hit!

They have a comercial with the sample in it, I just heard it, that's what bought me to this song
Esto si es música, los antecesores del rock y el heavy.
Gracias a estos maestros se creó la música de calidad.
Great song. Does anyone remember the other "Push and Pull" song? It had a female lead. Early 70's R& B... "Push and let me pull, baby push, and let me pull..."
I wish I could find a version of Part 1 and Part 2, but not the live version.
