Been watching since I was 16, I’m now 25 with a mortgage a wife and a baby on the way. Thanks for giving us some class content over the years brother. Addicted to your genuine personalities with yourself Andy and the lads in the videos
BMW tech here (no hate), at 12:10 if you look at the top end of the spring you can see it’s not sat against the seat properly, you’d ideally wanna put that right. i’m assuming you did this because when you went to put the shock back in the bottom end didn’t line up with the bottom arm, best advice for the future would be to mark the shocks so the top mount goes back on in the correct position because on this model the shocks don’t turn with the wheel when you steer. Also tighten any bush bolts with weight on them so they don’t twist :))
I’ve been a mechanic for 15 years, when I was an apprentice I took a fully compressed spring to the face which knocked me clean out! To this day I still get anxious every time I have to replace a spring 😂 I was lucky I only got a split lip
I definitely like seeing some shop mod videos. I actually just yesterday re-watched your video from five years ago when you first moved into that unit, and commented over there about how cool it is seeing how it's changed, so yeah starting a new year with a freshen up would be great. In terms of what to do, I'd add some more shelves, and deeper shelves, along with probably one cupboard just to throw the messy stuff out of sight. I'd build up both sides and over that new table you added recently too, make that more of a fitted station with tools and storage around it. Finally I'd throw a big graffiti style mural on the front wall of your mezzanine, above the lift, and add some more art up by the stairs.
Im no expert in Unit Organisation but I'd thoroughly enjoy seeing Andy on a ladder like Ollivander's wandshop in Harry Potter, sliding along looking for a car part
A unit clean up organise vid would be great. When organising work spaces for myself I’ve always thought about the flow of work, where projects/tasks start and end and made my space work around that. Ergonomics are huge too, I once made a 38’x10’ table to build walls on and spent long and hard wondering what a good height for it was, depending on who was working on it and what tasks were taking place. Made a huge difference to strain/repetitive related injuries same for where the lights were or if we needed a spot light in a certain area to avoid squinting at paperwork or a cutline marked on a piece of material. Been rewatching the Landy build recently! Great job. Keep it up boys! Would love to see a potential flat deck build on Andy’s truck too. Would look sick!
Thule parts they sold you were correct. The roof rack you mounted is for different roof rails, the raised ones that have space between them and the roof. Unless you want to loose your bikes mount the correct ones. You can check on Thule website what exact parts you need.
The Thule set they sold you were correct for that car with flush rails… you then fitted a set of bars for raised rails which are not right for your bmw 😂 but somehow they’ve clamped up and held 😂
I had a similar issue with my 3 series when i lowered it. I found online that the m-sport spec cars were lowered 20-25mm from factory but when buying lowering springs the lowering measurement is based of a factory standard spec (base model if you will) so the car only lowering 15mm when you fitted 40mm springs would make sense. I ended up going for coilovers instead. Hope that helps and love your content!
As someone who's just grabbed a proper unit after doing an engine swap & track build in my parents' back garden, I'd be stoked to see a unit organisation vid!
Yo! Just for your piece of mind with the roof bars, you’ve installed them completely correctly. (I’m actually trained on installing Thule products from back in the day at an old job lol) Not to make it too long winded but you have 4 different types of roof bars: Bolt ons (car specific) Ones that clamp inbetween your door shuts (also car specific) Then raised roof rails, and flush roof rails, and cause your roof on the f11 and your Passat both have flush rails, your feet for the roof bars are exactly the same part number, the only difference between the roof bars for if you were to buy them for either car would be the width of the Thule bars as they come in different lengths. So long story short you’ve installed them properly and they won’t fall off!
@@jackdennis5683 So It would be a diffrent foot pack and fitting kit needed for the F11 if you wanted to follow Thule advice. The way they clamp is similar in the sense they clamp the rail but its done if diffrent ways due to the bar setup. The F11 being flush means the clamp will pinch against the bar where the groves are, and for the Passat's raised rails they clamp round the whole bar. It's anoyingly similar and a pain when switchin cars but if your going to carry anything on your roof best get the right setup.
Would love to see a bit organisation series, building a garage at the moment and looking for motivation to keep things organised, loving watching Jimmy's series too. I would say shelves with boxes labelled for each vehicle just to keep it separate and organised, easier to remember where it all is and you can then sell off bits you don't need easily. Need to do it for my new car, just bought an Aristo and I want everyone else to leave my spare parts alone, not easy to replace them this time.
Workshop renovation / sorting viewers always get good views so deffo go for it! I’ll watch any ole shit you guys put out been watching you guys well over 10 years so feel like family 😂😂
Honestly was so stoked so see you go riding again and you bailed! Get a label machine that prints pretty big labels for the racking and label the shelves, it will force you to be more organised once you lay everything out!
vid on unit organization sounds mint. first order retrievability is the way forward: tools you use all day every day should be together open and easily accessible at any time such as screwdriver racks, hex key brackets and cubby organizers. if a tool is missing you can see its not there. Items that are not used frequently are neatly stored away with all associated tools etc. it takes time to set up effectively but once done the work efficiency is drastically increaced.
For the rear air spring adjustment. Use ISTA. Measure the actual right height from the bottom of the rim to the arch, then run the ride height adjustment routine and input the measured ride height and add what you want to lower. So if you’ve measured 100mm and want to lower by 20mm, input 120mm. The car will think it’s higher and lower accordingly. Without the need to get under to car and faff around.
Think New York loft style for the comfort details. Some more art about as well where possible. Sticker/patch area/wall perhaps. Quirky BQR Beer/Energy drink fridge? The only suggestion on organisation would be function. Think of how you work. The hot (most used) spots, the cold (least used) spots.
As someone that's just been through this themselves.. I opted not to go for Eibach as the stated drop wasn't enough. Ended up going for eBay -40mm which are quite decent. The only real way to do it is front coilovers which I'll get in a few months. The rear can also just be lowered for free using ISTA, you just change the calibration.
YES totally want to see a reorganisation video. Top tip… get some OCD 🤣 Love those organisation vids on YT. Plus it will give me something to do whilst off recovering from having cancer treatment. BTW absolutely love your videos guys. Proper fun to watch. 💯💯💯
Some advice, make sure the car is at ride height before tighting any bolts that go through a rubber bush. If you do it up with the suspension drooped it will twist the bush when you put the car on the floor. The bush should be under no twisting force when sat on the floor. Also means the bush is holding the arm down slighty, not helping with the lows.
Loving the F11 content! Eibach springs are notorious for barely lowering the car at all. I had the same on my F31… went from Eibachs to cheap coilovers to H&R’s. H&R’s look so much better than the Eibachs
I'd deffo enjoy watching some shop organization, motivates me to get myself in order. I don't have much to help with layout other than clear space so you can grow into it
Think your exhaust clamp is fractured. It is common on BMWs. When you were changing the lamba sensor, you can see fresh rust, and the exhaust isn't fully on the downpipe. It will rattle eventually 👍
Would be good to see a unit tidy up and seeing some old parts and memories will flood back , should just have a clear out on parts you won’t need again , also be good to see that Cupra R come back to life 😉
The Passat had raised rails but the BMW has flush rails. Flush rails still need a fitting kit as opposed to raised rails only needing a foot pack. The foot pack won’t grip the flush rails properly and could loosen to the point of it slipping right off under wind. It’s always advised to pull over every now and then and check/ tighten any roof bars but these could loosen a lot quicker than you’d expect. Might be absolutely fine but we did have a customer that just used a foot pack on flush rails and you could see a rub mark where the whole kit had shifted back around a half an inch. 👍👍
Hey Guys, I just wanted to firstly say i've been watching your channel for a while now and absolutely love your content - thank you and keep up the good work!! Secondly in regards to your springs.....i just had some custom springs made by a company called SPRINGCOIL based in Sheffield. These were for the rear of my Accord Tourer. Cost just shy of 200 quid for a drop of 35mm and custom spring rate. if you send them a spring they will measure it's spring rate for you. Way better than £400.00 just on springs.
Would love to see a good tidy up time. A tip would be to model the shop out in 3D space or map it all out as a floor plan, so you can gauge where things might fit
The bmw looks sick but that engine bay is giving me detailing nightmares, as is those wheel arches, I would love to seen the underside of your car dry ice blasted 👍I think it deserves it
A DPF basically works like a catalytic converter, however its primary function is to catch excess soot travelling through it to stop it from entering the atmosphere. It will hold a certain amount of soot (around 40g) before it attempts to carry out a regeneration. A regeneration is where the car will heat up the DPF to allow it to efficiently burn off the soot it has stored. love to see a video of a unit organisation, looks like your following the footsteps of ya boy jimmy oakes. his recent unit cleanup made a world of difference. tidy site tidy mind
Would definitely swap the foot pack you bought for the roof bars over to the ones you’ve put on. They are very similar but still specific. I’m sure the ones you put on will be fine but if you’re carrying weight it might be worth getting it correct? Awesome video tho enjoying the variety on the channel!
Be careful with the post cat lambda sensor, it can often show as faulty when it is not. Also, some scanners get the pre and post cat the wrong way round. I had the Snap On Solus tell me the post cat sensor was not giving a reading, it turned out it was the post car one, in the engine bay. The sensors are the same, just the post one comes with a longer lead. Don't throw your post one out just yet! Check your coolant temps if you have 24g of ash in the dpf, if the thermostat is not getting to 97ºc after a long run with that much soot in the dpf and hence trying to regen, it is probably starting to stick. It should get to 90ºc and sit there constant, no change at all, if it dips definitely needs swapping. The car will not regen until the coolant gets to 97ºc.
Those spring compressors are about £10 on ebay and absolutely lethal, they chew the thread when tightening even with grease and have some questionable looking welds. They also dont full hook around the springs, one side is always a bit loose
I own a g31 520d with the same engine as yours. I’ve covered 60000 trouble free miles in 2 years and like you it’s the best car I’ve owned. I almost think I prefer the look of yours the f11 😊
Probably down to it being an m-sport and already on lowered springs ... so the relative drop is lower with aftermarket springs .. happened to me on a car before ... maybe look for another set of springs with a bigger drop?
The f11 front top and bottom spring mounts are meant to go in a certain orientation you will see arrows on the top mounts, also mate id make sure those rear links are tight after a few miles as mine came loose
Your mates are always round with you at the unit, it’s rare you’re alone in there. So why not make a space upstairs you lot can sit back chill out and cook your mad scran. That way the shelves can just be sorted through and “ purged” in the words of jimmy o, and still be right next to the ramp rather than out of site and out of mind 25:05
Lovely job guys 👌🏻 I’d replace the top strut mounts once they were out but it’s too late now 😆pressure wash that engine bay please 😂😂 and don’t forget about engine mounts!
Hi Bqr eibachs in my opinion are notorious for not lowering a lot compared to h&r’s, I went for h&r’s on my bmw f31 wagon and they dropped it perfectly with no arch gap, eibachs are more for the subtle drop on the bmw scene
if you got a factory sport kit on the bmw it will be pre lowered from factory, for example merc is 15mm lowered on sport kit so yours was probably 25mm lowered from factory giving you less of a result on the front
I always just step on the spring with one foot from the side and give it the ugga dugga and never have been injured. The shock and top mount just go their separate ways. Thats on normal cars tho. A Mercedes Vito panelvan spring on the other hand, went on its marry way taking my foot with it and had me sitting on the floor very quickly xD
I wasn't happy with my springs for the first week or so and then all of a sudden it just dropped and was great so hopefully you'll see a change after some miles

That way the shelves can just be sorted through and “ purged” in the words of jimmy o, and still be right next to the ramp rather than out of site and out of mind 25:05
a unit build series would be awesome
Lovely job guys 👌🏻 I’d replace the top strut mounts once they were out but it’s too late now 😆pressure wash that engine bay please 😂😂 and don’t forget about engine mounts!
Andy eating dry pasta 😂 first time I’ve seen that
Hi Bqr eibachs in my opinion are notorious for not lowering a lot compared to h&r’s, I went for h&r’s on my bmw f31 wagon and they dropped it perfectly with no arch gap, eibachs are more for the subtle drop on the bmw scene
Have a look at the Sealey Complete Garage System, It's a bit pricey but they look tidy and the 2 rolling cabinets are handy.
Blower
Sloppy blower 🤩
Always go for Sportline springs with Eibach 🙌
Everyone loved jimmy oakes garage sort out, plus it motivated me to do my garage too
Yes do that video!!!! Maybe have a dedicated area for your cooking?
if you got a factory sport kit on the bmw it will be pre lowered from factory, for example merc is 15mm lowered on sport kit so yours was probably 25mm lowered from factory giving you less of a result on the front
Yes! Organise the unit !
I wasn't happy with my springs for the first week or so and then all of a sudden it just dropped and was great so hopefully you'll see a change after some miles
Definitely unit organisation 👌
