Beemers usually clean up pretty well due to a relatively good standard of finish. The perennial problem is people not maintaining them properly because it's relatively expensive. You see them at 12 years old with 4 mismatched tyres, spotty services from menu places and proliferation of MOT advisories unattended to.

As usual Matt's is dearest for mileage & year. My son-in-law today has just given £2600 for an 09 118d m sport with 71,000 miles looks a belter full history 3 owner's. Matt's is going to be hanging around until he reduces it as cars with similar milage 3 years newer for the same money. I've just watched video due to family buying 1.

Great video as usual as for tyre dates.
They are made and then can be on a container ship then a warehouse for up to 2 years depending on size and demand and david holmes was after benhams at spring gardens years before willy's took them over and is now nissan dealership.
And looks like a motability car at 1 year at service

I bought a skoda estelles in 1980 off a guy for £50. He could not p/ex it. He had 4 Alsatian’s and lived alone. Car was perfect apart from interior. I tried cleaning and was hopeless so I removed seats and carpet and replaced from a scrapyard for £75. Very easy to do too. Only done 28k and was a great winter hack. Anywhere in snow. Replaced distributor with cdi from Halfords and sold at 110k. Covered me in very broke time of life. All cars can be cleaned inside regardless.

Might be an idea to bring disposable paper seat covers with you when picking up cars in future, just in case they’re as manky as this thing. Disposable gloves might also be prudent…

Popular myth was that the 1 series design was based on the planned new rover 25, before BMW sold rover. That has the ring of truth to me as it looks like a £12k car new, not £20k plus like it ended up.

@BerwhaleTheAvenger-b5s there were rover drawings which bear an uncanny resemblence. The 1 series was always an overpriced small car as a new car. Each to their own I guess, a fool and their money etc......

@mothbreeder641 Agreed, I have had two E87 130i’s and they were amazing little cars (265bhp n/a as opposed to the 304bhp of the 135i’s turbo, but quick nevertheless) I wouldn’t have wanted to pay the £30k price that they were new however.

At that price, you can't argue the cheap paint patch ups. It's a car with 12m MOT and no advisories

I'd have sourced one of those forensic science laboratories suits before I entered the vehicle. As previously mentioned can you imagine the former owners house if that was the interior on your first entry! Kudos to you for the K9 clean up.

I like the new not massively over spending Matt (I would leave it for the customer to ask to improve the paintwork or the alloys at an extra cost and just sell them a working car).

I've always felt BMW 1 Series is a car owned by people who are not typical BMW drivers and are only interested in the badge and care less with the maintenance costs and upkeep that is vital to keep these things ticking along, finding a BMW 1 Series with full service history or close to it is harder than getting hold of an Oasis Reunion Tour ticket

I reckon the old feller had good tyres all round, and cycled the less-worn fronts to the rear and put a cheap pair up front (given the rears will have worn more)
