‘Poor Lara has to suffer because of MY incompetence’ is the single most honest statement ever made in a gaming video 😂 anyone else would blame the mechanics or the oxygen gauge.
When I'm swimming and drown it's my fault... literally every other time it's Lara's fault, because I made that jump last time I played.
Getting through Witcher 3 ATM, and it has like far worse swimming mechanics xD
Listening to you describe these games that mean the world to me, feels so familiar. I love how you can tell the old school hardcore players from the casual ones; it all depends on how they describe their own experience.
my thoughts exactly love the way he puts his own spin on the moment to moment gameplay
The boat in venice is the strongest memory I have from watching my dad play this on the PC back in the day when it was just released, always so mesmerizing!
Classic TR moment! Especially when watching a parent play it 🙂
Also it was the tomb raider games that made me realise I do indeed have thalassophobia. I hate underwater sections in any game. It just puts me on edge beyond belief and makes my anxiety spike through the roof... even laras indoor pool in her mansion scared me
I can relate...
I noticed several people commenting on big and open water areas being scary... I have the opposite issue, the small and clustered water zones make me feel like I am suffocating.
Still got these for ps1 and can't wait fir Feb 14th
These are the best breakdown reviews I have ever seen on UA-cam. This needs more views, likes, and shares
Thanks for the kind words :)
I like how he shows the PS1 version and not the PC/Steam versions as many UA-camrs do.
up there with the greats like steveofwar and others
Love to hear you reminisce about playing this with your father. It’s such a precious and necessary experience.
"the message" bit at 16:25 was amazing 🤣
I don't know how to explain; but I love the tank controls no matter how weird or wonky they can be
Old tomb raider games make new ones TR look like as a joke of a franchise, especially the last two
Agreed. I like the first of the Reboots although shes a bit winy in it.
@@KillyRR To me, Shadow wasn’t so bad. It had the better game mechanics than the other two but no, the classics will always be top tier. 👍🏾
The scariest part for me was the sharks. When I saw the start of 40 fathoms I took the game out of my ps1 and went to sell it. Right away. I was 15 and no internet or guides. I bought the game 1 year later and finished it.
Great review. Makes me want to go back and replay all the old TR games. They're so nostalgic for me it almost hurts. Can't wait for your TRIII review. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thank you! The TR3 Review is coming along nicely. Can't wait to release it in June ✌
@@GFrom Nice to hear it's in the works. Hyped to watch it!
Do it.
Unlike you I love the floating islands section. The eerie background sound perfectly matches the atmosphere of being trapped somewhere between two worlds, in a different dimension, somewhere beyond time. The jade green, lava only add to this atmosphere. I also I find the concept of statue warriors coming to live scary and fascinating. They make ominous sound when they walk and the growls! Of course, it would've made a x100 times bigger impression on me if I saw And heard it back in 1997. Finally, the theme that is played when you ascend the rails with the sound of the bells makes me think of eternity, mortality, inevitability of what's to come and finally of the end of the great adventure.
Totally agree with you on all points. This game has such a great variety of atmospheres and Floating Islands caps all that off with a truly alien and spooky level. The warriors hovering towards you droning as they get closer was so memorable.
Tomb Raider 2 was my first Tomb Raider games. I'm 41 and I still play it. So many memories.. For me one of the best of the series.
It's great. What do you think of the third game? My Review of TR3 will be uploaded at the end of the week.
@@GFrom I had started time ago but I abandoned it. As I remember it was too chaotic and confusing and the returning of the blue crystals in order to save , made it even less fun.. I look forward to your review! It's nice to see people like you talk about old games with such passion. Continue the good work! 👍
Thanks! For me it's also fun to get in touch with people who enjoy the games I grew up with.
By the way, the TRIII video is live - if you haven't seen it already :)
@@GFrom I will check it asap . Thanks! :)
@@jimking81 You're welcome. I hope you enjoy! :)
16:26 you went back to the 80s on that one. XD
I cant help myself, I watched one of your reviews starting with tr1 and now Im just compelled to watch all of ur reviews!
Enjoy! 😄
oh I am, im literally watching ur tr2 one rn
I just wanna say thank you. Was looking for a review, nostalgia reasons. After a mid long search i found your channel. Really enjoyed the jokes and the way the video is cut. great job!
Ah, my first PS1 experience - and it took me 7 hours to complete the first level as I had no idea what I was doing or supposed to do!
The story about only gettingbto play with your dad 3 times a year was very heartwarming. You should bring him on your channel!
In February, the TombRaider classic of 1,2 and 3 are coming out on the switch. You can play the polygons setting or the new remastered setting. I preodered when I heard about it. I can't wait for February.
44:36 - TR2 (pc version) was the first tomb raider game I ever played, back when I was a kid. And I dreaded that spider cave ever since... :'(. Replaying it 20 years later, still gives me the creeps. I remember my fingers were literaly shaking on the keyboard. I finally got through it by turning off the game sound and blasting hard rock music on Winamp while playing so I didn't hear the spiders anymore ^_^". It worked :)))
28:26 - Well, i saw all badassgames walktroughs with no med packs and all kills.. BTW awesome channel you have. Thank you! :)
Love your channel dude keep it up
This is an amazing review, I can feel your passion and it's very funny at the same time. Deserves way more views :)
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I love hearing you reminisce, it’s so familiar! I remember first getting the game downloaded to my computer with my dad’s help and it was finally ready late at night. Child me decided “it’s all dark and spooky, I’ll just go to her house and start the game tomorrow.” And what happens? I’m startled by the most terrifying man who turns out to be her trust kind butler, but boy did child-me jump out of my seat!
I recently beat TR 2 and the expansion for the first time, completely blind. I must say it is a masterpiece. Every action in the game feels engaging and everything feels like a set piece. I didn't know that I had to let the monks live and spent the whole monastery level shooting them down. Fun times. I like how in depth you were with the review, it felt like I was listening to a close friend sharing his experience with the game. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words :)
Loving your tomb raider reviews your experiences growing up with tomb raider feels so familiar. I remember my whole family in the living room together taking turns trying to do the last 2 levels. Memories I'll never forget :) please do more tomb raider classic reviews ! :D
Thank you! Your memories sound lovely.
I'm working on it ;) More TR Reviews at the start of Season 3 🎉
This was my very first action-adventure game. My parents bought it on pc, but back then we had dial-up and had to beg and plead on the weekends to play it, and it would always blow my mind. I eventually got it on PS1 and its still one of my favorite games close to my heart 💙
Hi mate, sorry I just had to subscribe to your channel. Someone who is making reviews about these very old games, definitely has earned that! Love the games AND your videos about them. TR1 I played on a SEGA SATURN console (the game was a Sega only exclusive for 1 month or so) and TR2 was the only reason for me to buy a PS1 in 1997. I remember how mad I was, that it was all of a sudden a PS1 exclusive title….
Didn‘t we all lock Winston into the freezer? 🥶
Concerning these „automatic pistols“ replacing the TR1 magnums is sort of an oversight/error by the devs. These are in fact magnum caliber semiautomatic pistols like in TR1, they even seem to share the same sound file. Only difference is, they made the shot cadence a tidy bit faster. But „automatic“ means: pulling the trigger once and holding it until your clip is empty. The whole firing-case ejecting-recocking-reloading procedure runs automatically and repeatedly as long as the trigger is keeping pulled. Which clearly isn‘t the case here (like with the SMG or assault rifle). So these „automatic“ pistols are in fact semi automatic like the base guns, only a bit faster and with more UMPH
Sending you my best from Uruguay, Mike. 🇺🇾👍♥️
PS: Herzliche Grüsse an Dein Heimatland Sverige (von dort wär ich sicher nicht weggegangen). Bin Österreicher und froh, nicht mehr dort leben zu müssen, besonders seit 2 Jahren, saludos! 🥂
Thank you for the long comment and kind words! I think you'll enjoy the upcoming episodes :)
I don't know anything about guns, so that was very insightful!
Bro I love your channel! Watching & playing TR truly makes me happy! Like back when I was a kid. You rock as a host/presenter. This whole channel is GOLD!!!!!! Thank you.
Wow, I don't know what to say. Thank you for the kind words :)
@@GFrom my pleasure. Thanks again. And thank you for responding!!👍💯 You rock.
I'm so happy i found your channel! I just had a weird urge to watch someone play this game and i thought I'd have a search. Your excitement is exactly how i felt every time there was a new tomb raider or expansion pack. To this day I've never missed out on a new tomb raider 💕 the puzzles and secrets and stories and amazing music are my favourite.
I'm glad you found me 🙌
@@GFrom I find it so funny how all the men in this game are so muscley even when they don't have a reason to be 😆 I remember when I was a kid thinking they looked like the meat I used to see in the local butcher shop haha
oh man.... the edit to tie in GRAND MASTER FLASH n the FF!! ... sooooo smooth! completely caught me off guard! 👹👍🏻
Might be my favorite edit I've ever done 😂
14:30 Lmao! My dad was exactly the same when it came to save game etiquette haha!
He thought me the concept of giving save files the name of the current date and time so to never get confused which save file was the most recent one aswell as the ability to go back to any point in any game.
What would we do without our dads? 😅
What is the clip of that dude going "alarm! ALARM!" from? I must find this.
It's from a german adult film...I don't know the name (I swear) but it's a classic clip that gets referenced all the time here :D
search for "lustiger Pornodialog: Diebstahl & Alarm in der Feuerwehr" on UA-cam :D
@@GFrom lmao not at all what I expected. Thanks man.
I beat this game for the first time in 2010 it was hell but alot of fun doing it again now
I laughed so hard when you busted out singing grandmaster flash 😆 🤣 So great
Love your reviews! Also I really enjoy your accent :)
Thanks, that's nice to hear :)
wow really good retrospective regarding classical tomb raider games....
In deinen letzten beiden Tomb Raider Videos herrscht wirklich guter Humor. Ich musste ein paar Mal lachen. Ich mag zwar alle Welten in TR2 aber eigentlich gefallen mir die drei letzte Level in China am Besten, allein von der Atmosphäre her.
Das freut mich!
Haven’t played these games in a long time. So, recently started playing them again. I think this game was way harder than the first. Plus it was so dark in some levels, I would have to use the light from my pistols when I would shoot them to see at all if I had no flares. Maybe cause I played via emulator is to why everything was so dark. Not sure. But I really enjoy your content and I am now subscribed and will watch the rest of your stuff.
1 thing i noticed about the game after finishing it, Lara actually never interacts with Marco Bartoli at all
I’ve really been enjoying your videos. Lately, I’ve been replaying the games I used to play as a teenager and I’ve been having fun. From Final Fantasy 7 to Tomb Raider, there’s a special feeling about playing old school games that modern games just don’t offer.
i always wondered about that key in the bedroom
Loved every second many memories from childhood
Nice video man. Never really got into Tomb Raider somehow. The controls really put me off back then. I was too impatient for them.
Thanks! Have you tried it in recent years?
Also excellent video! So many great memories
Thank you :)
@GFrom Reviews no problem! Merry Christmas man
Merry Christmas to you too! 🎅
Ist echt lange her. Schön, dass du wieder hergefunden hast und danke :)
I always love the under water levels, but I love swimming so that explains that 😊
Great video AND GAME love tomb raider too.
So good, loved your commentary ❤
Here a like for my brother
fantastic thank you!
Just like they did with crash and spyro. I think they need to make a remastered version of the original tomb raider trilogy
I'd buy that!
@@GFrom absolutely but i want it to keep the creepy atmosphere. I don’t want them making it all action and explosions etc. Keep that old style atmosphere with the limited music just with stunning visuals and slightly tweaked controls making her easier to control
That would be a dream...
@@MizfitZer0 there's a short tomb raider 2 demo from nicobass you can play..it was made with unreal engine. Unfortunately the last update was long ago
That Popeye comparison gave me a laugh. Thanks for that.
The rap part made me laugh so much.
It is so great, to watch someone review something the love.
I hope we get to see the oddworld games.
Do you know rayman on ps1. So brutal.
Anyway i am a fan of you.
Liebe Grüße ❤
Glad you liked it!
Love Oddworld...
Yes, I've beaten Rayman. I love the music and visuals, but the game itself it pure torture. I never want to play it again 😂
LOL
35:32 LOL . I ALWAYS LOVED THAT PART. HE JUST WALK THRU BLADES . MONKS NEVER DIE
Love your Tomb Raider reviews. Your humour makes these videos a joy to watch and it's good to re-live the memories of playing these. I hope you continue to do TR3 and 4 as well!
Thank you! I hope to review all of them at some point. Two Tomb Raider Videos are planned for this season, so stay tuned :)
@@GFrom WHY U PLAY SUCH A BAD GRAPHIC RESOLUTION ??
EVEN ON EMU FOR PSX U CAN POLISH BETTER NOT TO MENTION PC GOG VERSION.
I record straight from the console.
@@GFrom
35:32 LOL . I ALWAYS LOVED THAT PART. HE JUST WALK THRU BLADES . MONKS NEVER DIE
Don't mess with the Monks 😅
it's nice to know i wasn't the only pne who had trouble with deck cause i can never find the way forward without a guide.
Oh yeah that level can be brutal
@@GFrom the under water level and not the rig are my least favorite levels in TR2 at the end level screen for the deck it said 1 hr 43 min. total not including all the deaths. but i like the concept.
I finished the game for the first time last week. All I wanted was to finish it quickly. I didn't like it at all and I knew this is the most loved game from the clasics. I can't understand why. Maybe nostalgia. So, I was dissapointed. For example, I love Tomb Raider 3 the most. This game is full of humans, there are planty of huuuge rooms, but kinda empty, I hat the underwater stages, I didn't like the Venice part. I'd replay TR3 anytime, but this I won't do it again.
Anyway, congratulations for your content! I'd watch you all day long!
Thanks for the kind words!
Excellent video, my friend! ❤ ❤ ❤
Thanks, Cory! Glad you liked it 👍
My favorite tomb raider and better then the oringnal in my eyes. Tho the original is still great. Tr1-4 were all pretty darn good :)
Don't know how one can enjoy a clunky shooting game.
1:00:06 thats the reason I love it! is more real history (humans) and sometimes mystic creatures, for me is a great balance.
I see your point! It's great that we can love these games for different reasons.
I also hear so much about your father in these videos and am so jealous as I wish I'd of had a father be into these type games. Maybe I shouldn't ask but, is your father still alive as you seem to always mention him in past tense
great channel btw love all ur content
I'm visiting my father in sweden right now! We watched The Last Of Us together and are playing Assasin's Creed Origins and Batman Arkham Origins.
@@GFrom oh you legends send my regards from one Tomb Raider fan to another
@@minimobilereview6570 Thank you, I will!
You TOTALLY nail what I think of Tomb Raider 2 : I was 5 when I first played TR1, and 6 when TR2 wame out. It blew my mind, TR2 was such an improvement on many levels comparing to the first game. It became my absolute favorite Tomb Raider for years ! But, when I was 14, after a walkthrough of TR2, I decided to get back TR1, and it was kinda nice ! I replayed the two games on a roll at 18-19, and it became clear to me that TR2 is a better action-packed and a more polished game, but the overall feeling of Tomb Raider 1 makes this one very special. Time spoke to me : I replay TR1 every year, for TR2, it's more like every 4 years ;)
It's cool to hear that other people have similar experiences with these games :)
The funniest bit was, you could hear Bartoli's henchmen coming before the fire fights.
28:32 I completed this game doing no-meds and The Deck is the hardest level because of that part right there lol.
great video
if you have the disk for pc, the ending credits techno tune is actually an mp3 file you can rip called ending theme (cool).
@1:02:23 I've played this game so many times when I was a child / teenager and I can't seem to remember flooding this place. I always won the level doing the jump from the other side
5:10 She-un. You asked how Xian is pronounced)))
Thanks :D
Nice review. I like the way the game bring back family memories. Your father to you, my brothers to me. I too prefer the first game.
Was so gutted this didn't come out on the Saturn back in the day, but I did get around to playing it eventually. Didn't like it as much as the first, though it is a good sequel. Always thought Tomb Raider's brand of adventure was tinged with strong horror, and TR2 continued that wonderfully
0:45 "Die welt ist nicht genug" ( ^.^)
Thanks man TR2 is my favourite tr game because it's the first tr game I ever played it's so enjoyable with the gun enemies because that what makes the game hard like in tr1 it was to easy like you can just stand there and shoot I never feel repetitive tr2
Ahh, the Tommy Gun cut scene. I was a kid when I first played this so my English was not that good.
I stil feel ashamed when I think that Lara said "Genni Bartelli, via cara velli Venice"
i think that tr 2 is the best in tr series...also the story is very good...
The human vs animal enemies is interesting (and I do consider humans to be an animal, just a more familiar one). I still feel alone with human enemies, because they are enemies, not friends. I felt most alone in Tomb Raider Legend, when I lost contact with Zip. I didn't even really think about it much before then. Because I was with myself, and I don't feel alone then. But if I have someone with me from start and then lose that person/persons, I do experience loss.
i always thought that bird that shows up after you get the talion was pretty hot. He shows up in Nightmare in Las Vegas too right?
Correct! Just with different colours
I saved over six hundred times in this game. lol. I kept making silly mistakes so i had no choice and wanted to avoid stress and just experience the game, immerse myself without worrying about redoing certain sections. Great game. But still not as good as 1 and 3
why does it look like you played TR1 on PAL and then TR2 on NTSC? :O great review of my favourite game tho! :D TR2 and TR3 gold next? :D
Because my TR2 Disc doesn't work anymore. The first level doesn't load :( So I had to download the game on PS3, which I assume is the NTSC version.
I'm currently writing the script for TR2 Gold, but it will be a few months until I work on the actual video :)
How can you skip over 12:42 where a switch is hidden blended into a camouflaged wall? I am playing this right now and hd to look up a guide after scoping the whole map for 30-45 mins
Push the block in the fireplace
As someone who knows this game like the back of my hand now, the gun cabinet door trick was my biggest disappointment about this game. But this game is always going to hold a special place in my heart.
OMG .... and then we get some Blodhound gang towards end!!! 👹
I remember my sister was shocked at the lara neck break. By that time I desentised from being a gamer for years.
Note: Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember the butler's body being in the freezer in the final level, implying that the goons knocked him out and put him out of the way
maybe it's just a region thing?
or an easteregg if you leave him in there there before starting a new game?
It's the first time I'm hearing that. In my game he was never there...🤷♂️
So. I had to ask my german friend what on earth this was at 20:45 because i was so sure it was a german meme and sure enough i know the story now.
10/10 and now it's all i think about when i hear an alarm 😂
Welcome to my world 😂😂
Honestly nothing could have prepared me for the explanation but it's still the greatest possible explanation for it 😂
The only ladder that takes longer to climb is that of the ladder from Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater towards the end
Ahh yes TR2 my first ever owned TR game
I totally agree with you!! I enjoyed the first one better! The levels are just not as great and the enemies are too much. The vehicles are also horrible. I enjoy playing this game much more with the weapon and medi pack cheats
42:04. This isn't lava, it's Dragon Blood. We see real lava in the next level znd it's different.
The Temple and Islands are my favourite! They feel the most like the first game. The Monastery and Catacombs are at the second place.
Believe it or not it's adviced to use a short and a jacket in Tibet
Imagine if Tomb Raider II was made into a film
Why is the number one song called "Anse"? What does it mean?
I have no idea 🤷♂️
TR 2 was the first game of the trilogy i played on the PC back then :D with keyboard since i didn't had any controller. Funny enough when i replayed it a few years ago and bought it from GOG i still played it with the keyboard xD
btWanna know HOW nerdy i was back then? i actually did a presentation on class for Tomb Raider the series overall (TR 1 - 4) with the history of Lara croft, the makers of the game and stuff. (It was the first presentation we had to do in our class so we could pick our favorite thing) well yeah xD also i didn't had internet so i had to get my resrouces from the Offical PLaystation Magazine and the Bravo Screenfun
Oh man, I used to buy Bravo Screenfun as well :D one of them had a disc with TR Level Editor and a whole bunch of levels...fun times
@@GFrom sadly i missed that one :-(
Btw do you get infinite ammo in tomb raider4
Lara uses that key in the ending
Haha 21 years back i was stuck at Opera house... Today i downloded tomb rider 2 and it and cleard opera house ... I feel accomplished
Awesome!
Låt mig störa dig men en fråga: vad är det för skillnad mellan i stan och på stan? Jag såg båda i några böcker om Kurt Wallander och fattar fortfarande inte hur de skiljer sig åt
I always loved the look of the PAL Version cases the USA ones I was never a fan of.
Yeah I agree. The PAL covers look more classy in a way.
