In 1976 i was only 11 years old and with my group of friends we were already adoring and dancing to this song. I would never have imagined, back then, in 2023, to still see, hear and admire Al Stewart himself still performing on stage. Greetings from Brazil.
Thanks for sharing this memory with us.
I may ask u question how was.the life at that time?
@@Mrgreen2558 There was much more innocence, children played in the street, there were no cell phones, video games and TV was great fun, despite the limited programming. Music and films took longer to arrive in our country, in short, we were happy with what we had.
@@alexrizzoBingo bullseye correct. But cable, video games, the brick cell phones already in their infancy barely. Apple Mcintosh computers invented and sold only and affordable to the rich elite oligarchs millionaires and well off financially affluent society only. The majority could not afford them. 1976 was a great year for music like this. Remember this song burning out the home and car stereos 24/7 365. Different people different era different styles different values different music different time different country never to return again. Glad I lived it.
I live somewhere in the nook of Asia and I felt and experienced the same in 1976. YOTC was and is the same 'good-giving' vibe it does as time travels through its passages. Al's music still plays an integral part through my life - and I believe it does so to most of you good people out there. Happy New Year...2 / Jan / 24 🙏🏼
Now I am 63 but I remember this song when I was 17 dancing with young girls on school parties. Thank you maestro.
Wow, that sounds like some great young memories!
Ahh, 1976. Remember it well. Carter vs Ford, Carter wins. Bicentennial celebration all over USA that July 4th. America was still great truly at the time. A very different people, different era, different time, different styles, different values, different music, different country different world never to return again. It's like a dream to remember how it truly was at that time in America. That America is gone forever and not coming back. Glad I lived it.
LOL but they weren't young girls then, just girls cuz we were young too!
His voice is still so recognizable it hardly has changed after all these years just incredible !!!!!!
I think it's because he wsn't a "screamer" like Steppenwolf's John Kay or CCR'S John Fogerty so his voice still sounds like it did back in the day.
OMG he sounds AWESOME! Good for him.
I was not even close to being born when this song came out but its my favorite
ññ
Saw him perform live here in Beaverton, OR a couple of months ago. Have loved his music since the 1970s and such great humor he has, and historical knowledge that he weaved into his songs.
After all these years, the music rings true. How blessed we were to grow up with these great artists! No autotune, just talent!
Truth!
That's was my father's favourite song... R. I. P.
It reminds me of my dad too, he also passed away
It reminds me of my dad who also died, sending love ❤
I am so happy that he keeps playing this music.
Still sounds Fantastic in 2023!
Yes!
Yes indeed👍
Notable!!!
Timeless 🎵
Can’t hit the higher notes, but that’s ok, he still has that signature sound
Just love the lyrics of this song:
"On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime…"
His voice sounds exactly like the record 47 years ago. Absolutely amazing. 👍👍
He has a very unique voice and wrote some very cool lyrics for this song. He is always telling a story...
Found this video by accident....nice job guys.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
me too!!! from Argentina
Beautiful music like this,,,,I was fortunate to grow up to as a child. Days of innocence. .. It's sad ,,,to think that music like this has to be preserved because today's music isn't the same. It'll never be.
Glad you enjoyed the video. The golden era of popular music has already passed us. The quantity of great songs and bands from the 60s, 70s, and 80s is unparalleled. Most music today, with a few exceptions, is pretty crappy. Would you agree?
@@rockinggator969 I do agree yes sir
@@Deblen As do I.
WTF do you mean "has to be preserved?" 🤡🤡🤡🤡 I think you've been drinking, little buddy.
Likewise here.
I was 26 when this song was popular I adored it and al Stewart my favorite and hear I am in 2023 73 years old listening to it and al Stewart sing it on stage and he does sound pretty good and it still brings back good memories thanks al for year of the cat 😊😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it, and the trip down memory lane :-)
This song is beyond comment, classification and understanding. We're dealing with an Academic All-time composition by an outstanding Lyrical Genius Singer among Genius Singers From Edens'Garden, sent to us by God down here on Earth as a spiritual Gift for meditation to put chapter and verse.Deep Down inside thanks Al for taking us on the highest Pinacle of Joy and everlasting Dreams
I am 58 and I Was 11 when it was a hit . Al Stewart is Still great.
My brother and I were watching Al Stewart perform on the Merv Griffin show back in the late 70's or early 80’s; after Al finished playing, Merv enthusiastically began saying something like: “Al, oh Al" and started motioning him over to the interview area.
My brother looked at the TV and said;
“Right, like you know him Merv…”
Cracked me up!
It amazing to realize that no one in his current band were alive when this classic was released. They did a fine job.
It's cool to see younger musicians taking part to support and learn from people like Al. It seems they have been backing him for 1-2 years by now.
@@rockinggator969 great group with alot of talent. Its nice they played the original parts and solos like they were when the song was recorded decades ago...but then were able to put their spin on it at the end.
that sax totally kicks a$$
Fantástico.
So love. This song….. The band really was good. Thanks for this. It reminds me of 1977 and getting dressed for the disco. It was a awesome time… TY
That sounds like a really cool memory...I was a bit young to enter any clubs during disco, kinda jealous of you!
I was a music journalist when I attended concert and after-concert party for Al Stewart in Dallas in 1976. He really didn't want to duscuss album but his backup musicians did and they were really nice guys. They also appreciated being shown how to open push-top as opposed to pop-topped Coors beer.
Very cool. That must have been very fun. Thanks for sharing. Did you get to meet or talk to him?
This song was played all the time in my house growing up in the 70s. He sound pretty damn good for 77 years old! 2nd row seats at one of my favorite local venues, The Egg.
Good score on the seats. I'm going to see him in September in Mt. Vernon, WA. Got my ticket already. A true bucket list concert for me.
@@bobphillips3222 That's awesome! I hope he gives a great performance. Let me know how it goes!
How lucky you are
I play this song on the daily…….
He sounds great
You still have it, Al! Thank you for the great music.
Thanks for listening, love his music too!
👍👍#☝️ MUCHAS GRACIAS FOR 🎵 YOUR 🎶 MUSIC 🎵🎶 MAESTRO; I WAS A VERY YOUNG BOY IN NICARARAGUA CENTRAL AMERICA;NOW ALMOST 59 YEARS OLD IN CALIFORNIA NORTH AMERICA 🫡 GOD BLESS YOU MAESTRO 🙏
JUST AN UNFORGETTABLE SONG, GREAT AL STEWART!
Yes, it is such a classic!
Love to see he’s still performing. Incredible musician
I agree, t is so cool he is still performing. I hope to see him again soon if I can.
One of the greatest songs ever. Glad to see this version online.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Timeless!!! - Thank you Al
Glad you enjoyed it
This guy is an example of you are what you do! He's doing top ten music now! I would pay to see that.
Youngsters haven't had the chance for that real,...musician's doing musician stuff! ☺️ Mr Stewart is the real deal 🤝🏽
Auguri.
Very beautiful music!!!!
I’m so glad he is still performing 🙂👏👏
Yes, so glad he is still touring.
The guy playing the flute and sax plays absolutely flawlessly his tone is amazing!!! On both instruments!
Apparently he was hired for just that one single gig. Al was talking about it during the show that it's a different person for each city...that makes it even more impressive! Definitely a professional. Saxophone and flute fingerings are essentially the same so it's common to be able to play both, it's not like learning an entirely new instrument. But it's still impressive 🙂
@@rockinggator969that's very interesting!! I did notice he has sheet music so it's not something memorized they play often .
Timeless. Great melody, instrumentation and lyrics. A master piece. So pure and honest. Most of modern music is thousands of miles away despite of all sophisticated technology. Greetings from Germany. 64 year old fellow.😊
Sehr gut! Vielen dank :-)
His voice is better than ever....incredible..!!!!
Yes, he does sound great!
@@rockinggator969 Completely agreed.
Not bad for his age, but he's speaking some of the lyrics, he's saying "cat" more than singing it.
Al sounds good here, and the band has some good solos, but as a whole, it sounds too 'busy', like an Al Stewart tribute band that Al invited to back him up.
I've been to the Egg many times . Great place to see a concert.
Very cool. They get many great acts and very reasonable prices too!
No words, Show! Beautiful.
Couldn't agree more!
@@rockinggator969 thanks
Beautiful . Great song from a great musician. I love it.
Thank you so much. I am really glad you enjoyed the video! He is definitely an underrated artist. What other songs of his do you like?
@@rockinggator969 time passengers. 😊🙋🏻♂️
@@c.d.5642 That is a great one too. I have my recording of Time Passages from the same concert here. Did you see it?
Love it , practically the same voice
@@sergiogonzalez877 I agree. Very impressive that he still sounds so good at 77 years old.
When I first heard this song it totally mesmerized me,as if I was in a trance ! Love this song ! Now this is what you call MUSIC ❤😊
It is an amazing song. It transports you to a special place :-)
a great undervalued artist. The complete studio album itself is beautiful, not wasted. It's fantastic to see it sound in such good shape, it's impeccable
LOVE every song on that album. IMHO his best ever.
You are spot on.
Great though this song is -and it is - there is so much more to Al than this one song. Dig deep into his very fine catalogue of music and the rewards are great and will entertain you through a lifetime . A troubadour of the truest kind.
I totally agree! I have every Al Stewart official release I can find. He has a very large catalogue and many great deep cuts!
one of the high water marks of the 70's!
Definitely
He was my first concert in the 70's. Still sounds like a young man. One of my favorite songs.
You have great taste :-)
My God Al is still rocking this timeless, masterpiece!
Yes, pretty amazing at his age. I think he sounds darn good for 77.
Love Al Stewart's voice and music.
A great bunch of backing musicians! Well done Al, this is a much loved song 😄❤❤
Glad you enjoyed the video!
That sax is like butter on corn on the conb
Maybe the greatest pop rock song ever written.
Its definitely up there. A classic.
Pump the brakes.
cruzin in my 73 Firebird 400 with my friends listening to Year of the Cat on cassette when it was on the charts. Wow, Al Stewart sounds just as good today in 2023!
Great memory
Sounding good, captures the music captures the memories of our youth.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It almost seems like a trick. An old man with Al Stewart's voice. He still sounds the same...really great! (I'm about five years younger than him and I consider myself an old man as well!)
Timeless Al !! Thank you forever !!!
Absolute class. This puts a lot of today's so called "music" to shame. There is some decent music out there now but in the 70's and 80's we were overloaded with it , so many great bands and musicians that we probably didn't fully appreciate at the time. This is a masterpiece.
Totally agree
Yup but gotta add the 60’s too
The 60’s were great too!
You are welcome. So glad you enjoyed it!
Classic song I remember growing up in the 70’s
Same. I’m 57. I know every word and bar of this song going back to the 70’s when it used to get a fair amount of radio play
@@jeremyjudson1952 I remember this song. I’m 56 .
May this song never get old. The lyrics clearly etch unforgettable images in my mind. Al Stewart is the most literate of singer songwriters.
Totally agree.
scrolling through the comments and listening to him, you'd never think Mr Stewart was in his late 70's.
an incredible singer.
Yes, he sounds great for his age (77). Impressive.
Grande All Stewart, eres un genio.
Al sounds great! I absolutely did not appreciate this song enough when it came out. It’s one of the best songs ever. It had to have been incredible to hear live!
There are songs and songs. This one, for sure, has a special place in our hearts. One thing that has always amazed me about this song is that besides the catchy and beautiful melody, the guitar and sax solo arrangements are amazing and transport the listener to another dimension. Sweet and remarkable music. Happy and delighted to see you singing and showing your songs to new generations, Mr. Stewart.
Yours is a great description of what this song does. It definitely transports you to another place and time. What a classic.
You are welcome!
M'y good...he has still thé same voice... Magic 😢❤❤❤

His voice…. Is the same!
Sounds like a tune the Pet Shops boys could do as the Voices are so alike
This sounds oh so good, loved this song for so many years and great to come across this show accidentally, thanks so very much Al and the not so Empty Pockets, a really great sound for Al!
Glad you found the video and glad you enjoyed the song!
Voice always reminded of Donovan’s voice.
Sounds great and nice guitar solo, as good as Tim Renwick
Interesting comparison to Donovan, never considered that.
BEAUTIFULL SONGS WILL ALWAYS BEAUTIFULL SONGS.
Yes!
Al stewart, I got more than 30 years that I follow you. You play so good song. Thank you very much. I'm from Brazil, but i live in the usa.
Same here. A fan for over 40 years. Great music!
Smooth Cool! Great Band!
Rock on!
Siempre grande Mr Al Stewart ❤
He is still sounding so good!
Glad you enjoyed it!
About 11 years ago I was at an International guitar camp in the US and Al was a guest speaker/teacher. He was very entertaining and performed a few songs of his, but the most amazing thing he did was ask for any subject and he would write a song while he was performing it. He wrote two songs while he performed them totally off the cuff and they were good. Never seen that before and the whole room was impressed. He is a very cultured man who is an expert on wine and a very ardent historian.
Wow, that is damn impressive. What a very cool experience you had. Thanks for sharing!
Most of his songs have some historical basic or reference and he does his research. "Roads To Moscow" is an example. This came out when I was an older (27) student in college, and loved the romanticism. Year of the Cat is one of those albums that does not have one bad song on it.
@@karencantarero1132 I agree!
Espectacular!! Una canción para la historia!!
God bless all this artists
Great music
Al Stewartwith his famous song, the year of the cat.He began famous by this song, that people love secretly.
That one and Time Passages, both classics.
What a talented group
I've got my eyes closed and all of a sudden I'm a teenager again long live rock and roll xx
Time Passages...
So great song that even my easy piano cover sounds good! 🎹💥

Sax, telecaster, drums and keyboard, you guys and gals jam. You made this. AL Stewart is great! I'm jamming my ass off in a jungle in the Philippines. I love you man!
Hello there in the Phillipines!
incredible🙌Nice song from japan saitama thank-you very
much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The musicians in the band did an exceptional performance. Mr Al Stewart is amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a class act Mr. Stewart; I grew up with your music which always was adventurous.
Glad you enjoyed the video
Thanks for this, RockingGator! What great memories this brings back. I was a 15 year old busboy at a small restaurant. in a small Midwestern town when the original version was released. Every Sunday, the restaurant would close down at 2 p.m. and I'd play this on the jukebox over and over again while the staff enjoyed a free lunch from the owner! Such a great song and I do think Al sounds better than many of his R&R peers at this stage of life. He sounds quite good!!
Wow, that is such a nice memory you have of this song! It is definitely one that you can listen to over and over and never get tired of it. After nearly fifty years it's still as good today as back then. I am glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for sharing your memory. Cheers!
One of the most iconic and endearing songs of all time. Thanks Al Stewart for some great music
Glad you enjoyed it
What a great classic timeless song this is 😊
Sounds just like the original recording; thats a real feat; and Al still sounds the same as ever !!!!!!!!!
yes, pretty impressive for an "old man"
Totally wonderful all the way
Damn he still sounds mighty fine..
77 Years old...pretty good!
I saw him at Crystal Palace Bowl, London, England, Jun 15, 1985; he was the second on stage after The BueBells and the main atraction was Chris De Burg....................Amazing memories coming back to me.....................
That sounds like it was a great show!
I bought the 45 rpm record in 1977, ciao from italy
Got to see him in Atlanta about 20 years ago. I’ve seen him an Elton John. I’m good.
If there is a heaven, I hope til it hurts, that it's just like this.
Great line
Gracias AL ...siempre es bueno escucharte...❤️👍🎼
Love this song great version al still has it ❤!😊
